I have a windows7 (64bit) computer and I copied the full steam directory to my ubuntu 9.10 (64bit) desktop and that's how I start it. I tried installing steam with wine but then I get an error (See picture). If I start the game now, HL then when the game starts, the screen is turning away to the right-down.
