I doubt there is a "default" colour for this and it is set by whatever theme you have installed. I don't think this is a bug. You can probably set this "too dark" on Windows too. I was able to fix this locally from Desktop Integration → Item → Selection Background and picking a lighter colour. Still, it would be very nice IMO for this to work out of the box.
