Exact same symptoms - no text in dialogue boxes. Is that so? Would be nice if someone figured out which ones of 24450, 24610, 15146 and 22341 are actually unique. It seems the issue was never really looked at. On a side note, I now don't see the dialogue text on Lucid neither with 1.1.31 package from Karmic, nor with pristine 1.1.31 from git (same machine). Text too dark to be readable, but it's definitely there! This is weird, because I know I've played the games without either of those patches, and had the text working. The bug also appeared with the default radeon driver for Maverick. An additional wrinkle is that this bug does not seem to affect the Catalyst driver from ATI (fglrx). I have not tried on Maverick, but on Lucid I had no text with the open-source radeon driver, but text was just fine with fglrx. (But still no text with 1.3.32/Nvidia card.) Updating to 1.3.33 fixes both.
