This bug is fixed for me in current wine (1.6-rc4). Can you test again with the latest version of wine and tell us if this works for you too?

You don't have this bug even in Dragon Age Origin (1) ? What are your Direct3D options ? Are they default or did you change them ? With default settings, I still have this bug
Although not entirely clear because of the darkness of the menu, what I see is a black image with a sun in the middle and 4 ornaments around it. My understanding of the bug is that before, the preview was a black rectangle with nothing in it. Because I see a clear image, I assumed that this was fixed. If this is really the issue don't expect this to be fixed anytime soon. For legal reasons they cant add the support in wine.

The proper way is to download the patchset (either manually downloading all files or checking out the staging git repo). $ git clone https://github.com/wine-compholio/wine-staging.git Afterwards the patches can be applied on your wine source tree.
