[Bug 60439] New: SafeDisc driver for The Sims 1 (all versions) failed to create driver L"\\Registry\\Machine\\System\\CurrentControlSet\\Services\\Secdrv" - Broken since wine 7?
http://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=60439 Bug ID: 60439 Summary: SafeDisc driver for The Sims 1 (all versions) failed to create driver L"\\Registry\\Machine\\System\\CurrentControlSet\\Serv ices\\Secdrv" - Broken since wine 7? Product: Wine Version: 11.19 Hardware: x86-64 OS: other Status: UNCONFIRMED Severity: normal Priority: P2 Component: -unknown Assignee: wine-bugs@list.winehq.org Reporter: blayer98@outlook.com Target Milestone: --- Created attachment 82257 --> http://bugs.winehq.org/attachment.cgi?id=82257 Log for Sims 1 on vanilla wine not launching due to SafeDisc bug since 6.3 Hello, I've attempted to install The Sims (Base game, Livin' Large, Hot Date, etc.) on all wine versions after 6.3, and it appears that a regression has popped up making the physical versions of these games unplayable due to the SafeDisc DRM not working on any wine version other than 6.3 and potentially lower. -- Do not reply to this email, post in Bugzilla using the above URL to reply. Sadly, I'm on a Steam Deck, so I'm unsure how I'd use vanilla wine on it's own. I did notice that using Proton 6.3-8 (which uses wine 6.3) the DRM works fine seemingly for all versions of TS1, and I presume Theme Park World would also work on that version too since it also uses SafeDisc. -- Do not reply to this email, post in Bugzilla using the above URL to reply. http://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=60439 --- Comment #4 from blayer98@outlook.com --- Ok, so I've attempted to run Sims.exe on a vanilla wine download with pacman, "sudo pacman -S wine" in a distrobox so it's all completely clean and not interfering with my Steam Deck's files, and I've just uploaded the attachments. I get a page fault error and no splash screen pops up which it should do normally on Windows. I've also created another distrobox just for wine 6.3-1, but I was unable to install wine as it requires other dependencies that I can't find the versions that it needs. However, with Proton 6.3-8, after I install Livin' Large, I get the splash screen popup which is SafeDisc doing the disc check. -- Do not reply to this email, post in Bugzilla using the above URL to reply. http://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=60439 --- Comment #7 from blayer98@outlook.com --- Just to confirm, I've installed Livin' Large on the same wine 11.19 setup in my distrobox, and I'm still getting the same issue there. I'd also like to add a correction as well! Base game does not attempt to start on Proton 6.3-8 seemingly, no splash screen pops up, and no error message about a missing cd. -- Do not reply to this email, post in Bugzilla using the above URL to reply. There installing the secdrv.sys fails because the c:/windows/syswow64/drivers directory is missing. With a little bit of luck this may be the same issue. Maybe you can do a test with createing this directory after wineprefix got created, but before doing the installation or at least before starting the game for the first time? -- Do not reply to this email, post in Bugzilla using the above URL to reply. Hi there, so I tried base game on Proton 6.3-8, and the driver was in syswow64, but the game still would not run. (I presume due to the same page fault access error happening on the latest version of wine? I'm not sure though.) I also tried installing just base game on my wine 11.19 distrobox after creating the drivers folder in syswow64, but the driver was not placed or created there, the folder was empty. So I installed Livin' Large (Since I knew Livin' Large's SafeDisc DRM works on Proton 6.3-8.) and left the drivers folder in syswow64, but the file still did not get copied and instead I got a page fault crash. I've uploaded that now. -- Do not reply to this email, post in Bugzilla using the above URL to reply. You are receiving this mail because: You are watching all bug changes.

http://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=60439 --- Comment #11 from blayer98@outlook.com --- To add, I installed House Party on wine 11.19 on distrobox, and with the syswow64 folder being present, the driver was indeed present and the splash screen showed up, but I had to manually set the path to the external cd drive I'm using. (Sidenote: The game seems to crash on Proton when attempting to play the intro videos and another sidenote: Livin' Large's installer for me crashes with 0x80004005 as it can't play the SimsVille trailer during installation, removing it fixes the issue for me on both distrobox and Proton latest and 6.3-8.) Once that was done, I had to use wine's explorer on wine 11.19 as the game wouldn't find the game's directory. The game opened just fine and the intro videos played (they seem to cause crashes on Proton apparently?) No issues were detected during gameplay. However, in fullscreen, the game appeared in the top left corner and could not be moved. In windowed mode, So to recap: To play with your original discs: Make sure on your wine's windows folder structure that syswow64/drivers exists. Base Game and Livin' Large do NOT work due to an unhandled page fault crash. The following packs however, appear to work fine including the SafeDisc DRM once the syswow64/drivers folder is present: House Party Hot Date Vacation I will report back if Deluxe Edition and it's Patch from Double Deluxe, Unleashed, Superstar, Makin' Magic and Complete Collection work. -- Do not reply to this email, post in Bugzilla using the above URL to reply.
