[Bug 19292] New: Nancy drew game crashes on load
http://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=19292 Summary: Nancy drew game crashes on load Product: Wine Version: unspecified Platform: PC OS/Version: Linux Status: UNCONFIRMED Severity: critical Priority: P2 Component: -unknown AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org ReportedBy: eyecreate(a)gmail.com It's funny it's currently only happening on this one out of all 5-6 tried before that work with Gold status in Wine, but #13, The Last Train seems to start up and then stop with just a quick screen flash. It was hard to get any information out of it, on one computer, it would make gnome-terminal disappear and die when the game crashed. I tested this on another computer using PlayonLinux to test it on all wine version(that I considered major) from 0.9.7 to current. The problem existed on all of them. Wine only spit out a few lines of info when running it in a different terminal: fixme:keyboard:X11DRV_LoadKeyboardLayout L"00000409", 0001: stub! fixme:d3d:IWineD3DImpl_FillGLCaps OpenGL implementation supports 32 vertex samplers and 32 total samplers fixme:d3d:IWineD3DImpl_FillGLCaps Expected vertex samplers + MAX_TEXTURES(=8) > combined_samplers fixme:win:EnumDisplayDevicesW ((null),0,0x325054,0x00000000), stub! I plan on posting this, if the fix isn't quick, at codeweavers, since I have a subscription with them and more heads are better on hard to solve problems. -- Configure bugmail: http://bugs.winehq.org/userprefs.cgi?tab=email Do not reply to this email, post in Bugzilla using the above URL to reply. ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are watching all bug changes.

Do not report bugs when using playonlinux. It's not supported here. Make sure you using latest Wine version (wine-1.1.25).
What video card and drivers?
Sorry, I only mentioned it because I wanted to show I used many different setups, but I also used "base" wine too. This problem happened on one computer with 1.0.1 and another with I think that latest 1.1.25. Both computers are using nvidia cards, one is builtin on the motherboard and i think the equivalent of a 2000 series(I'll get back to you if different). The other one is a 8600M GT. -- Configure bugmail: http://bugs.winehq.org/userprefs.cgi?tab=email Do not reply to this email, post in Bugzilla using the above URL to reply. ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are watching all bug changes.

I did, and it didn't change the output. I was confused why it didn't show any different myself. Is there a way to run wine after building it without uninstalling a system wide wine? -- Configure bugmail: http://bugs.winehq.org/userprefs.cgi?tab=email Do not reply to this email, post in Bugzilla using the above URL to reply. ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are watching all bug changes.

yes, it runs self-contained from the build directory. T eg, if you're using git and your repo is in ~/git/wine cd .wine/drive_c/Program\ Files/Nancy\ Drew/ ~/git/wine/wine nancy.exe See if the backtrace appears without using winedbg, otherwise ~/git/wine/wine winedbg nancy.exe use 'c' to start. substituting the real paths and executable names... -- Configure bugmail: http://bugs.winehq.org/userprefs.cgi?tab=email Do not reply to this email, post in Bugzilla using the above URL to reply. ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are watching all bug changes.

This suggests the process is starting another process then exiting, try to attach to the new process using the attach command. If this fails you could try to figure out a way of breaking on new process creation if that's possible. http://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=19292 --- Comment #22 from GyB <gyebro69(a)gmail.com> 2010-04-25 03:01:38 --- Created an attachment (id=27545) --> (http://bugs.winehq.org/attachment.cgi?id=27545) rzipped +relay,+seh,+file log (5.4 Mbyte uncompressed) The issue seems to be similar (if not the same) to bug #6548. It might affect some other (but not all) Nancy Drew games, too. The log is from the ND#13: Last train to Blue Moon Canyon, using Wine-1.1.43. -- Configure bugmail: http://bugs.winehq.org/userprefs.cgi?tab=email Do not reply to this email, post in Bugzilla using the above URL to reply. ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are watching all bug changes.

If I enable the game's debug feature via the game.ini configuration file, an error dialogue is shown, saying: 'Error: Primary surface not supported by Bink subsystem.' The game uses the bink codecs and a splashscreen is intended to be displayed on startup. -- Configure bugmail: http://bugs.winehq.org/userprefs.cgi?tab=email Do not reply to this email, post in Bugzilla using the above URL to reply. ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are watching all bug changes.
