A process named cdprotect.exe runs at 100% CPU, but nothing further happens and it has to be killed. Same with Staging. I tried attaching strace to it but it gave me nothing. The game appears to be installed, but it doesn't do anything useful. However, I admittedly have never done it on Ubuntu to my knowledge. The closest I tried it on was Linux Mint. One thing I notice is that while I do get some libEGL warnings, I do not get the "Permission denied" errors that you were getting. I don't know what it means, but it might me a lead as to what's going on. It's possible the obfuscation doesn't like the environment. Tested back to Wine 6.0.4, no change, no regression. Are you using the ISO from the URL?
