Just a comment to the mentioned use of LPC to ememinate the server part of rpc: Since wine uses a server every lpc-call causes a lot of context switching. LPC with the wine server will never be as fast as on winnt. -The client would have to wait on the client side what means a client call needs 2 roundtrips to the server. - There are 3 processes playing a role: client, wine-server and the server. Where winnt needs only a context switch between the client and the server and one back, we need at least 6: client -> wineserver (copies request-message to wineserver) wineserver -> client (gives wait handle back) wineserver->server (server wakes up on it's wait handle and gets request-message) ... server is working now ... server->wineserver (server copies replay-message to wineserver) client->wineserver (client is waken up and calls wineserver for data) wineserver->client (client gets replay-message from wineserver) So I would consider a different IPC mechanism for this. wine-devel(a)winehq.com: I've looked for a forum, mailing list, or newsgroup specifically oriented for network card device driver development, but haven't found one. Any suggestions? I'm looking for an open-source friendly network card vendor -- e.g. the vendor publicly discloses the technical information required to write device drivers. Does anybody have any recommendations? Tab Control

Hi When I try to use the tab control in a VB6 program it exits with an error dialog: "Can't load 'SSTab' from TabCtl32.ocx. TabCtl32.ocx is probably too old." This is with builtin dlls. It works when I set ole.dll and oleaut32.dll to native. Winedbg doesn't give more information, it just looks like: --- (snip) --- No debug information in 32bit DLL 'C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\VB6DE.DLL' (0x66630000) No debug information in 32bit DLL 'C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\TABCTL32.OCX' (0x212f0000) (here comes the error dialog, OK) Invalid address for breakpoint 1, disabling it Invalid address for breakpoint 2, disabling it Process of pid=08112ba8 has terminated I also made some traces with +ole but I couldn't see any reasons why it fails. Also a bt at the moment of the popup doesn't show much, it's all inside MSVBVM60.DLL. If somebody wants to try, here's a small test project and exe (VB6). The TabCtl32.ocx in my case is from SP4. [OT] Announcing Aztech AZF3328/PCI168 sound driver

Hi all, the reason I've been rather quiet on the wine-patches side is that I've been busy writing an ALSA driver for the entirely UNDOCUMENTED and UNSUPPORTED PCI soundcard Aztech PCI168. This has been consuming vast amounts of weeks (all in all I'd say in compressed form 4 weeks of 2 hours per evening). This driver (azt3328.c) is more or less working now (some minor quirks remain) and has just been committed to ALSA CVS today. I don't expect anyone here to have access to such a card, but if you have, then you might want to give it a whirl ;-) Greetings, Andi

Hi, Sorry for posting all of this to the wine-devel group continuously, but I may have found the problem (or I may not have) but either way I need some help. I have run wine --debugmsg +relay acrord32.exe and read the resulting file. The last thing that comes up is: wineoss.drv I had a quick look through the specific function's code (The actual log entry is: Call wineoss.drv.DriverProc(00000000,403e2858,00000001,00000000,00000000) ret=40c9d2b5 ) Recently in the KDE Control Panel's Sound options, I ticked the 'Use Full Duplex' option - and ever since that it hasn't worked. Could this have been the reason? I can't look and see if it was now, i'll have to restart linux, and right now i'm the internet server on the network - so no restarts for me :( -- Thanks, Kye Lewis kyethespy(a)liquid2k.com

Actually, I believe Klingon got rejected. Some junk about it not being a 'real' language or something. Try telling that to all the people that speak it though. Found problem-causing patch for treeview

Ok, I finally found the patch that is causing treeview to not work on StarCraft (see bug #1073 for more info and the debug output) The hypermail link to the patch is: http://www.winehq.com/hypermail/wine-cvs/2002/03/0070.html I'm not sure which part of the patch caused it but that is the one causing it because cvs 1 second before that patch works fine, cvs the second of the patch does not. If someone could take a look at it and the debug output I would greatly appreciate it. How is Win/Dos syscalls implemented in Wine?

Hello! Perhaps someone can give me a good answer to this question. Please give me a direct answer, I have allready been trouh the wine FAQ:s , docs, code, etc. I know DOS syscalls is made using interupts (int instruction) but, is Windows/NT syscalls made the same way. How does wine stop these instructions from reaching the unix kernel?

I'm porting a closed-source game to Linux, and as a stop-gap I'd like to get a version out using WINE until I can rewrite the Direct(Sound|Draw|3D) backends with SDL. After reading this post: http://lists.debian.org/debian-devel/2002/debian-devel-200205/msg02823.html and then downloading the source from the winehq.com cvs, I'm confused as to my options. The LICENSE file implies that the ddraw DLL is transgaming's IP but the files themselves have LGPL declarations at the top. In short, am I within my rights to release a statically linked binary which uses the core WINE source code, providing I comply with the other terms of the LGPL? I notice some files have Transgaming's name on them, but appear to be LGPL. I think I'm within my rights, but not sure: the post above gives me most of the information that explains this state of affairs, but not everything. I don't know if this will help my Segmentation Fault at all, but when runing winedbg c:\\windows\\pbrush.exe, the Debugger actually waits for a command from me. If i take a step, it says: Single Stepping until exit from function, which has no line number information Stopped on breakpoint 1 at 0x0040100c (pbrush.exe.Entrypoint in c:\windows\pbrush.exe If i then step again Invalid address for breakpoint 0, disabling it ..... breakpoint 1 ..... ..... breakpoint 2 ..... Process of pid=0a24dbf0 has terminated a very odd thing happens if i run, and then step: another window pops up (gdb) and I get wine_dbg_cmd: Exception c00000005 in the Wine Debugger the gdb window says 0x402e2b41 in nanosleep () from /lib/i686/libc.so.6 and stepping in that window steps me through function nanosleep (?!?!?!) it would seem that it starts to debug wine itself! unfortunately, this window doesn't allow copy and paste, so i'll have to type it out for you (it may be a little incorrect): __errno_location () at errno.c:48 48 return wine_errno_location(); (gdb) step thread_errno_location () at ../../include/winnt.h:1717 1717 __asm__(".byte 0x64\n\tmov1 (0x18),%0" : "=r" (teb)); (gdb) step Program recieved signal SIGSEGV, Segmentation fault thread_errno_location () at ../../include/winnt.h:1717 1717 __asm__(".byte 0x64\n\tmov1 (0x18),%0" : "=r" (teb)); (gdb) step Program recieved signal SIGCONT, Continued 0x40305134 in read () from /lib/i686/lib.so.6 etc... etc... etc... and it goes through a whole heck of code...
