What I mean is that you disabled image padding, and you achive it some other way using explicit numbers (2, 5, etc). Turning the logic inside out, maybe we can give meaning back to IMAGE_PADDING. ThunkTheTemplateHandle and Kazaa

Hi all. Trying to run any recent version of Kazaa (Lite) under WINE fails for me, as it trys to call an unimplemented krnl386.exe stub... ordinal 538 (ThunkTheTemplateHandle). After doing a little minimal debugging, all I could see that ordinal doing was messing with some segment pointers and calling ordinal 630 (C16ThkSL). I really have no idea what any of this stuff does (*cough*), although copying the line for ordinal 630 into ordinal 538 makes Kazaa work for me :) I don't suppose anybody with a little more knowledge of this bit of Windows knows what actually goes on here? It'd be nice to see this fixed (properly :) in CVS, as Kazaa is a fairly popular application. Cheers, Ender

Wineconsole 'regression'

Hi all, Since the introduction of the 'ncurses' driver for the wineconsole program, the only program using the console is completely broken (IDA). Well, it actually starts faster than with the USER back-end but after that it's mostly unusable. I looked at the wineconsole code and it does not seem that there is a configure option or any other mean to have wineconsole act as before (ie to use the slow but working USER driver). So : 1) I did not look long enough 2) I should stop bitching and fix the ncurses driver What irks me is that the debugger is still working as before (ie not very stable, but at least not buggy in an xterm :-) ). I'll take a look at it and see what might be up. The tests all passed on my nt4 machine and on my local wine with the ole2nls changes, it should be pretty easy to resolve these issues. I just downloaded the latest cvs on a system without windows files. I tried to install IE5.5 and IE 6.0sp1 as win2k or winxp and as it tries to install, the following error occurs Unimplimented Kernel32.dll.VerSetConditionMask in 32bit mode. Anyone looking to write an update to kernel32.dll to add the function?

Folks, This does not work (<= is include): winsock.h <= sys/types.h <= sys/select.h BANG! FD_CLR gets defined before we have a chance to manipulate it. Any ideas on how to fix this? -- Dimi.

I just verified that a fragment like that compiles fine with g++3.2. Red Hat 8.0, Suse 8.1, and Mandrake 9.0 have already standardized on gcc3.2. Debian supports gcc3.2 only in their 'testing' distribution, but historically, a lot of people switch to 'testing' when they need new stuff. Hotmail better get their act together or I will have to go elsewhere. Leading spaces are getting dropped when I inline and even when I attach as a TXT file. The only way it will let all my patches through unharmed is by leaving the extension as DIFF. Yes, the version of vim that came with (I believe) Red Hat 6.0 has the definitions in its syntax file for proper "#if 0" highlighting. As common a practice as this has become, any syntax-highlighting editor with some degree of maturity that did *not* have this in its default rulesets for C/C++ would surprise me. How long does it take *you* to build wine?

I got tired of waiting for wine to build, and started looking for ways to speed it up. I have three systems handy: a dual 650MHz PIII, a 750MHz PIII laptop, and a 1.1 GHz Celeron with shared memory video (i.e. dog slow). To see if a parallel compile would help, I installed Red Hat 8.0 on all systems, and installed the RPM for distcc from http://distcc.samba.org. I then timed how long it took to do a 'make' after 'make clean' in a recent copy of the wine tree. It does look like distributing the load helps a tiny bit, but it's not clear it's a big win over just building on the dual 650MHz machine. The fastest build I've seen so far is 19 minutes. I'm pretty sure I'm not doing things optimally yet. So how long does it take *you* to do a clean build (just the 'make' part after 'make depend', say) of Wine-20021125? - Dan p.s. No fair using ccache! That's the next tool I want to investigate; it's probably the biggest win of all, at least for regression testing.

I had the issue with this version of the driver. Now im using the 1.0-4191 and the problem is still here. But we don't have the source to look into it, and I don't know any site/mail adress to complain about this. COM conformance test suite?

Now that the Wine regression tests are starting to shape up, and people are starting to be able to run Visual Basic apps, maybe it's time for us to start thinking about getting ahold of the COM conformance test suite the Open Group did as a companion for their ActiveX standard definition. The Open Group was willing to discuss this, but last time I checked, they wanted to know what was in it for them. (Well, they're not the Free Group, after all.) In particular, they thought it might take them a bit of work to separate the conformance test suite out from their "reference implementation" of ActiveX for Unix. Given that attitude, the best strategy is probably to start implementing our own test suite for the APIs in question, and shame them into opening theirs :-) For those who haven't seen it yet, the Open Group's ActiveX spec (http://www.opengroup.org/onlinepubs/009899899/ ) is perhaps the only document defining Win32 API calls in a standards-body-like-way. (The Tru64 Unix doc, http://www.tru64unix.compaq.com/com/documentation/building/ contains some related material. Might be worth archiving this before it goes offline as HP discontinues Tru64 Unix.) The Open Group spec only covers a little bit of Win32, but it sure looks like a useful bit. windows visual view ?

Is was just wondering if there was any type of Windows visaul view ? view as in how evreything is layed out ? and how wine compares to Win32 ? Say if you had a visual view of how win32 is layed out and just how close wine comes to this . If there was a negitive of Win-ME for example and one of wine how would wine look if it was layed on top of the Win-ME negitive ? I am trying to view Win32 in my head and wine and how they ( scope ) up..... could this cause a brain hemorrhage ?? ......... :) comments , flames , views, insight most welcome Tom

Hello people, I was looking at wrc a little bit, and I am curious to know if we really need all these options. They just pollute the command line namespace, and add confusion. windres has none of these options, and it's doing just fine. Let me be more explicit: " -a n Alignment of resource (win16 only, default is 4)\n" Do we really need this? Shouldn't this be hardcoded to some standard values? " -A Auto register resources (only with gcc 2.7 and better)\n" " -b Create an assembly array from a binary .res file\n" Do we still want to create the assembly output? Do we still use that? " -B x Set output byte-order x={n[ative], l[ittle], b[ig]}\n" " (win32 only; default is n[ative] which equals " Again, shouldn't this be hardcoded to some standard value, that we expect in Wine when we read the resources? " -c Add 'const' prefix to C constants\n" What's this good for? " -e Disable recognition of win32 keywords in 16bit compile\n" Shouldn't this be on be default? linking between wine books

What to people think? Should we be linking between different books in the wine-doc set? I had put a link from wine-user to a section in wine-devel. The pdf was happy enough with it but the sgm-to-html choked on it. Easiest solution is to drop the link. Otherwise can someone point me at an example where it works? -- Bill Medland

regression - 'wine notepad.exe' now has fixme

With today's cvs, I see fixme:win:SetWindowTextA cannot set text "Notepad - (untitled)" of other process window (nil) when I run notepad.exe. This also happens with wine20021125, but not with wine20020904. Should I narrow it down to a specific patch so it can be fixed, or is this a known problem? - Dan
