Hi, the patch below fixes a few things in winemaker. It seems to work with my app, but needs more testing, especially for MFC apps. Modified files: tools: winemaker documentation: winemaker.man Changelog: - adapt winemaker to the new way winebuild handles imports. - fix crashes due to winemaker-generated wrapper app closing libraries (is this one correct??) - Fix some minor bugs in the wrapper.c template. - change semantics of --nomfc option such that it overrides automatic setting of --mfc if stdafx.h or stdafx.cpp are found. (this may cause problems to some people. For me the old behaviour was a pain in the neck, because VC++ generates stdafx.h always, even for pure C projects). (HELP) cannot run tests anymore

I have tried this and that, but I don't seem to be able to run the tests. This happens for any tests I try. It seems that wine isn't looking for "tests/kernel32_test.exe.so" below the current directory. Translation wine documentation to other languages

Sorry for crossposting initial message to both lists. I think the topic may be interesting for both - users and developers. Any volunteers to help to translate the documentation to languages other than English? This is very big job, so there can be more than one person, working on the same language. Among responses to my call for volunteers I got response from Pedro Restrepo suggesting his help in Wine localization. See his message below. MS' hidden API

Dear wine developers, I have one question on the development of wine. Long(one or two years) ago I've heard that Microsoft got some hidden APIs in their products of various windows, and they use these APIs in their own applications. I wonder if this is still a problem on their recent product like windows XP. If it is, I guess wine will not be able to run such MS applications which uses hidden APIs. Is this right? And, is wine designed(or its goal is) to run all applications(including MS product and non-MS product) that runs on windows? Please forgive me if this problem has appeared in the past. Bug #829 triggers lock-up in Baldur's Gate

I've just uploaded a new (smaller) testcase for this issue. It shows a window launched by VB in 'modal' mode (xxx.show vbModal, Me) ends up (a) being clipped by the launching window, and (b) fails to accept keyboard and mouse input. Anyone got any thoughts about how to diagnose this - I need to get this working so I can open up the rest of my test app (All the bits I can get to now work with builtin oleaut32 after my last patch :-) ). I really am not a GUI person, but dont mind doing some diagnosis if someone can point me the right way. I've tried some traces with win debugmsg, but cant spot anything obvious. Regards, Jason

Just setup a clean wine on slack 8.1 and any time I try to run a GUI app I'm seeing this: Warning: loading builtin user32.dll, but native version already present. Wine, I found this address on your website, if it is the wrong address for these types of questions - Sorry!. I was wondering weather you could answer a question I have about support for Microsoft Office applications. The question is about weather wine can emulate (or has its own version of) the "ODBC Data Sources (32bit)" application found in c:\windows\Control Panel\ODBC Data Sources This application is used to set up DSN drivers for ODBC access on Access and Excel. An example of one of the drivers that this application handles is the MyODBC 3.51 windows driver. Any information would be greatly appreciated. I updated wine from CVS, and P. Christeas patch that solves bug 720 (misplaced graphics on AutoCAD) isn't there yet... but the bug does :) I tried the patch and works well with AutoCAD, and doesn't seems to make troubles with other apps I tested, so the question : what happens to patches sent to wine-devel ? They must be sent somwhere else or must wait longer to be put in CVS ? Regards Max

Regression Bug in Wine MM (Bug #817)

Eric, List, I have reported what appears to be a regression bug in Wine's multimedia subsystem (Bug #817). When running Baldur's Gate with recent builds of Wine, the game plays but without any sound. Earlier build ran the game with wine. The last known good build from CVS appears to be 2002-05-21 21:45:00 EDT. This looks like it may be related to the patch mmsystem.c commited by Alexandre Tue May 21 2002 - 20:52:31 CDT? I have attached the output from 'wine --debugmsg trace+relay Baldur.exe' to the bug report. Please let me know if there is anything else I can do to assist in debugging this. Ian

Modal vs Nonmodal window

Window, shown as modal does not receive any input and is clipped on the border of parent window. The same window is displayed and functions fine if shown as non-modal. Nice testcase is attached: http://bugs.winehq.com/show_bug.cgi?id=825 This bug can potentially affect VB applications which use modal dialogs. Does anyone want to research this bug? Notes R4 redraw problem - message trace

I have attached a log of all the messages sent to the right and left "panes" when switching virtual desktops. Note that the window named "Ian Pilcher - I" is the right pane, which shows individual messages, and the window named "{NotesSubprog}" is the left pane which is being hidden (resized to zero width?) when switching virtual desktops. See my original note of 19 June for an explanation of the problem. If someone GDI-knowledgable could take a look at this log and tell me if they see anything obviously wrong, I'd be very appreciative. Hi, I did some inspection how to get Agfa Photowise and my old CL50 to work under Wine. By default Photowise runs perfectly, except that when you try to connect to the camera, serial connection will always fail. After some debugging there is a very simple reason why this happens: Photowise tries to flush the file handle using FlushFileBuffers(). Under wine, doing this on /dev/ttyS0 will return error and FlushFileBuffers() returns FALSE. Photowise will detect this as error and refuses to continue. By forcing FlushFileBuffers() to always return TRUE, Photowise starts to work perfectly and finally my Agfa CL50 works with full 115200 speed under linux :) Perhaps somebody could figure out a clever fix for this in the future versions?

Autocad slow startup

I just updated wine from cvs (today 27 june); AutoCAD cad program, that ran well before now needs some 5 minutes to start.... There's no disk activity, nor some hidden process, as TOP reveals. It just hangs for some 5 minutes (on a P4 2 Ghz...), then starts in a shot. Does somebody have such a problem with some other app, or maybe already solved it ? If not I'll try a regression to see what happens. Regards Max

How well does WINE run if you have a Window$ CD?

Hello, most potential WINE users already own a Windows CD. This is obvious because if you want to run a Windows program on Linux it is because you are probably already using it, and this means you have Windows installed somewhere. Now, if I have the Windows CD I can copy all the needed DLLs(and whatever else) to the correct Directory. Now my question how well does WINE run if you follow this approach? If Wine doesn't work 100% doing it this way, I think this should be the main focus, because after this works, it will be just a question of time till we replace all DLLs with our own ones, one at a time. What about DirectX? Can we use those DLLs? I suppose they need Windows drivers so they might not work with Linux. But would it be possible to make the Windows drivers work on Linux so that DirectX would run? I think this would be a good intermediary goal, especially for all those companies wanting to switch from Windows to Linux because they already have Windows CDs. Roland

Memory and swap full

Hello Running a application make on Delphi i observe a periodical increase on memory used after a time this effect occur in swap space used and are continued at full swap then machine stop in a continuos access to HardDisk and nothing else run waiting this process resuming...the memory are exausted and i have something like a general break on my system. If i close the wine and reopen all return to normal state i think that problem is in my application but i dont know how localize this in my source code any body have a similar situation...? what i can make in this case...? cry !... :( Marcelo

Dear all, When we are working on the Chinese support on WINE using Lotus Notes r5, we found that the fonts display for the interface is very ugly (attached the screepshot). I would like to change to have different font when detected English or Chinese. Could somebody point me where I could start with? Also, for a text document, the gdi text and font are used to store them, I would like to ask where can I find the structure to store and the code to manipulate it (e.g. send for display/print (pExtTextOut? but where called pExtTextOut))? I just found a link to xmms-winamp (http://www.emulinks.de/xmms-winamp/) a project to allow the use of winamp plugins in xmms. This is done with the help of wine or winex. Personally, I'd like to see announcements such as this, crossover and winex on wine-announce. Getting CUPS printer to work in wine

After updating to the current CVS I get the following error message: trace:psdrv:PSDRV_CreateDC (WINEPS Printer LPT1: (nil)) To use WINEPS you need to install some AFM files. I believe this may be why I can't get printing to work. But do I really need AFM files to get printing to work? The printing doc says you don't need them for type 1 fonts. I've attached a trace of the printing errors just in case this isn't the cause of the problem. TIA for the help, Josh

Unfortunately, the attachment is not there. Does anyone know what happened to this patch? It doesn't appear to have been sent to wine-patches nor did it make it into the CVS. WINE Performance tweaking and known bottlenecks

What options/tricks/techniques can I use to enhance performance under WINE. I am trying to get Total Annihilation to run smoothly on a K6-2 233MHz machine, it runs and is getting close to playable. The only unusual thing is that the framerate is the same at 1024x768 as in 640x480. What is likely to be the bottleneck and what can I do about it? I'm willing to go into the code if neccessary. I have limited programming ability but I am an exceptionally fast learner.

As the log files received didn't show relay lines, only profile lines, I haven't been able to fix it.
