Hi, the patch below fixes a few things in winemaker. It seems to work with my app, but needs more testing, especially for MFC apps. Modified files: tools: winemaker documentation: winemaker.man Changelog: - adapt winemaker to the new way winebuild handles imports. - fix crashes due to winemaker-generated wrapper app closing libraries (is this one correct??) - Fix some minor bugs in the wrapper.c template. - change semantics of --nomfc option such that it overrides automatic setting of --mfc if stdafx.h or stdafx.cpp are found. (this may cause problems to some people. For me the old behaviour was a pain in the neck, because VC++ generates stdafx.h always, even for pure C projects). (HELP) cannot run tests anymore

I have tried this and that, but I don't seem to be able to run the tests. This happens for any tests I try. It seems that wine isn't looking for "tests/kernel32_test.exe.so" below the current directory. New CVS and Agent

Howdy, I just built a new CVS version--the first one in a while. I got caught by the -managed and the -winver options going away--a little searching through the list archives, and the problems were solved! Anyhow, I generally run with two instances of Forte Agent v1.9 open. Since I've built the new CVS, there's a change in behavior that I thought I'd the devel community know about. When pressing the shortcut buttons on the Agent instance that was first opened, nothing happened. When pressing on the buttons in the second instance, they worked normally. I closed the second instance, and the buttons in the first instance now work normally. Perhaps the messages are being captured and sent to the wrong place? (They're not being sent to the wrong instance of Agent.) Also there was no obvious output messages in the console window. That's the only change in behavior I've found so far. It still runs great. Any volunteers to help to translate the documentation to languages other than English? This is very big job, so there can be more than one person, working on the same language. Toolbar redraw problem

Your previous patch was better :-) Basically, we use MSVCRT(xxx) for all symbols for which we may get a conflict with the native C library headers. On Unix systyems, the _xxx functions are never defined (though there may be a couple of exceptions) so we don't use MSVCRT() for readability's sake. dos console apps question

Lately I've been trying to get some dos console apps running under wine. These apps run great under wineconsole but not so much just under wine due to the lack of a server side console for the routines in dlls/msdos/vga.c to output too. So, after poking all around it seems that at some point during the normal loading of an app that we should be calling out to the server with alloc_console to create a default console, and binding this console to the current terminal. Does anyone have any suggestions about this? What function this should be done in? Thanks, Chris

Some questions about winedbg usability ! 1) - Would it difficult to add an options (something like SHOWREGS=on/off) that allows to have regs displayed automatically after a breakpoint AND after a NEXTI command ? I find it painful to have to issue NEXTI and then INFO REGS each time.... remember old good ms-dos debugger !!! :-) 2)- What about the possibility to set off-code breakpoints ? It happens often that I must set a break (in asm code) that is in a DLL which isn't already loaded... That gives a BAD ADRESS, of course. Borland debugger accepts the breakpoints and set it when the code gets loaded. Now the only way is to set breaks in dll-loading routine, wait up to the wanted dll gets loaded and then put the break... awful ! 3)- And now the difficultest ! After solving the point 2, what about a way to store/retrieve breakpoints settings from disk ? Finding a bug in asm code often requires days (hmmm... nights !) of stepping, and a way to save breakpoints settings would spare tons of notes on paper :-) Regards Max

I may well ask you to add some more TRACEs in the code to help me understand better what happens (ie if it's blocking in Wine code or in application code). But I would be interested on a +opengl trace too. And maybe you should try to remove all trace of glide2x.dll of your system (maybe once Tribes manages to load the glide2x it cancels OpenGL as it supposes that a system with Glide2x will work better with it than with OpenGL). I ran into a problem (syntax error) with some functions that are declared __cdecl using WineLib. Including winnt.h directly fixed the problem, but it doesn't seem like the right solution. Shouldn't winnt.h be included automatically (ie, by another header file somewhere that's included by WineLib)? Getting glide to run in tribes doesn't seem to be a problem, i've been playing some with glide-wrappers which seems to work fine (some glitches) and the game gets renderd. CUPS and Wine

I've been having trouble with my RH7.2 LPRng based printing, so I decided I'd try installing CUPS. After fighting for hours to get this so-called easier printing system installed and working, I finally got to where I could print from Linux apps. Now, however, Wine steadfastly refuses to bring up a meaningful print dialog. I've gone into system.reg and win.ini and removed all the entries relating to the printing system, to no avail. Wine sort of recognises that there is a printer named "Color" managed by CUPS, but it cannot get any kind of properties for it - no paper size, no queue, and any attempt to accept the dialog is either ignored or results in a fault. This is with a CVS pull and clean rebuild as of 30 minutes ago. Where do I go from here?

CallNextHookEx16 strageness

Hello, while trying to convert HHOOK to a void* i found this strangeness: CallNextHookEx16 expects its first parameter to be a real HHOOK, that means it checks the HIWORD of the HHOOK to see it it contains 'HK' if (HIWORD(hhook) != HOOK_MAGIC) return 0; /* Not a new format hook */ In wine there are only 2 functions that call CallNextHookEx16, one is DefHookProc16, the other is ShellHookProc16. The first one calls CallNextHookEx16 with first parameter queue->hCurHook (an HANDLE16), the second one with WH_SHELL (the number 10). This parameters gets implicitly transformed to a HHOOK and will have their HIWORD set to 0, thus CallNextHookEx16 will always fail and return 0. I'm trying to build a dll using WineLib. The source compiles fine under windows. Just a small update: I load the Dinput.dll (DirectX5, but DX6 works also) that fixes keyboard. I'm trying now to get OpenGL to work, i've run through the ./configure --enable-opengl, and checked the config.log to see that everything checks out (Which it does). OpenGl in X windows works fine OpenGl in windows demos also works fine (tried a couple small ones, where i clearly can see that opengl is in use) When i run the game it doesn't detect my OpenGL (i can't select it under video) so i've been trying to get it to work all day. When using a -dll opengl32.dll=n it can set the mode to opengl, but Tribes immediatly crashes after klicking apply. I've checked around on the web and found some old logs that tell about the exact same problem. http://www.winehq.com/hypermail/wine-users/2001/03/0630.html (OPENGL in Tribes) I get the exact same errors as that person, minus the mouse errors.. I've also tried an interesting thing that could be of some use for others, considering Tribes also can use Glide i got an idea to try a windows Glide-Wrapper = Translates Glide instructions into OpenGL. It worked somewhat, but due the lack of any 100% glidewrappers and that they are generally slow it wasn't a good solution. But i can imagine other "glide" based games would work with this, if there's no other choice. Isn't there anyway to nativly do this in linux? All, In the last couple of days I have been getting this in the WINE-DBG in apps where I was not getting this before... Specifically Smart Suite's WordPro. This did not seem to happen with the original 20020710 release. Wine 20020710 from CVS (current as of 7/25) I got this. (Lots of symbol data cut out). I can reproduce 100% of the time. Load WordPro and select "Create Blank Document" then boom. Looks to me like something got removed out of a lib. Hey everyone. I've been trying to update threads by following Francois' directions, and I think I may have come across a bug. Can someone help me out here... Why does the SYSLEVEL structure have a CRITICAL_SECTION inside it? Shouldn't a mutex be used instead? According to MSDN, the function EnterCriticalSection has the following property: If a thread terminates while it has ownership of a critical section, the state of the critical section is undefined. Also, WaitForSingleObject returns WAIT_ABANDONED if: the specified object is a mutex object that was not released by the thread that owned the mutex object before the owning thread terminated. Ownership of the mutex object is granted to the calling thread, and the mutex is set to nonsignaled. So, if a thread _EnterSysLevel and is then terminated, no other threads can enter that sys level. This seems wrong to me... Should I replace the CRITICAL_SECTION with a mutex? Any objections? Sounds like we need some regression tests that run DOS progams like 'find' and 'more', and make sure they work properly. I myself use the sourcesafe commandline tools, which are of the sort that just pipe characters to stdout and from stdin, and was horrified to discover that sometime after 9/2001, wine stopped running them correctly -- it started putting stdout in raw mode (!), which caused all line-oriented reads from stdin to fail. It also did curses initialization (!!), which made things look very messy indeed. I'm still running my snapshot from around 9/2001, but if I ever get up the energy, maybe I'll write a regression test to make sure e.g. DOS "more" works correctly. - Dan

Yes, many DOS console apps don't work under plain Wine because DOS emulation does not create console for the applications. Some applications actually make Wine crash because the application gets illegal coordinates when GetConsoleScreenBufferInfo fails. The correct place for console allocation would likely be VGA_SetAlphaMode; call to normal Windows AllocConsole() function should be enough, no server calls are needed. Additionally, if DOS console application tries to call a routine that requires console, VGA_SetAlphaMode should be called in order to initialize console (see VGA_SetCursorPos). I have been thinking doing this myself, but I have always ended up being uncertain about how this change is going to affect piping input and output of DOS programs that use only stream IO and not console IO. DTR / DTS vs RTS/CTS vs Wine

Hi, I am testing a serial printer driver that uses DTR/DTS hardware flow control on wine. While testing the driver running winedbg everything worked, not so when I ran the program directly from wine. I sent this problem to the printer manufacturer and they put a data scope on the serial line. It seems that the DTR/DTS signal was not being caught by the computer and therefore the computer was sending info over the serial port when the printer was not ready. I read on the net that the linux kernel does not implement DTR/DTS but only RTS/CTS hardware flow control. I also read that it is usual for cables to be built that connect the RTS/CTS pins to the DTR/DTS pins therefore tricking the computer and printer [the computer understands RTS/CTS and the printer DTR/DTS ] and getting good results. The output of --debugmsg +comm after SetCommState was called was ~IXONN ~IXOFF. Can anybody indicate that If I build the correct cable and ask for RTS/CTS with SetCommState , that the serial io will work? Any limitation of wine with RTS/CTS? Is it correct that windows does not do ANY hardware flow control? If so, how can this app work under windows since it only uses standard SetCommState, ReadFile, WriteFile calls... Greetings, I've been working with this problem for about 2 weeks now (play alot of tribes) and it's finally working with keyboard. I tried dinput about a week ago but couldn't make it work but as you said i should have used directx5 or 6 instead. Keyboard works fine but i still have other issues, to make the game fully functional. Dsound komplains somewhat and the sound sounds pitched (plays to fast, thus giving the smurf syndrom), i tried to use -dll dsound.dll but it says that it can't find the file. I know i've done right so i checked around on irc.openprojects.net and they said that not all -dll's can be used natively, is this right? Also i fail to get opengl to work, i simply can't select it in game. Any ideas? I've compiled with --enable-opengl and i've run a testprogram using opengl which works fine. Tribes running in fullscreen mode it feels slow and strange, but running it in window mode makes it feel fast and stable. Why? i tried to use native ddraw.dll but then the game won't even start, there's just a black screen. Thank you for all your support, considering i've been running around looking at homepages and chatting on irc when you all solved my problem within 1 day, THANKS(!). Dinput - Keyb Bug

I'm trying to get StarSiege Tribes (1) to work, and from what i gather is it suffering from a quite common wine-gaming-problem (both wine & winex). The game starts smoothly enough but keyboard is dead. When i press any key it will instantly drop out and quit. No error message or breaks. Considering the keyboard makes you move it basicly leaves you jumping up and down shooting at everything that comes..=) Other than the keyboard error tribes runs fine. I daily run updates from winex & wine but been working at this problem for about 2 weeks. I've read all the info i could find on the subject and from what i can gather is that tribes used to work on older wine. So can anyone give me some futher info about where i could find older wine-archives or if the dinput (i guess the problem is due to dinput) problem is about to be solvedŽ, tweaks, patches, ideas.. Coded breakpoints

Maybe it's a stupid question, but... is there a way to hard-code a breakpoint ? I need to check a bit of code that gets called too many times and I'd like to put a conditional breakpoints compiled in code; no way to use winedbg built-in conditional breaks, the condition is too complicated..... Same thing is defined on my system, so I think it is correct. LD_PATH is used to add paths infront of LD_LIBRARY_PATH for when wrc and winebuild are run. On my system, before the line you mentioned, LD_PATH is set to $wine/library:$wine/dlls. Then, it is changed to prepend itself to the environment variable LD_LIBRARY_PATH. However they were not exported. Examining the msvcrt.dll on my Windows 98 computer indicates that this is correct they shouldn't be exported. crtdll.dll does exactly as Wine does though. So I guess the implementation of the functions above should only be in CRTDLL and not in MSVCRT. Will you fix it or should I?

Hi, Some time ago I did some tests of Wine on Solaris x86 and found that there is a problem with the way we handle threads due to the differences between the Linux and Solaris threading models. These differences are also relevant for Solaris Sparc and probably many other Unices. Unfortunately I don't have time to work on it anymore so I created a bug report in Bugzilla where I tried to dump the relevant information, including a patch to illustrate the issues and the start of a fix. Hmm, the WinExec looks fairly easy but the WinExec16 appears to be a bit more difficult to handle. Perhaps it could be handled more easily with some sort of ifdef around those parts? ShellExecute again

Here is a much improved version (I hope), in case anyone wants to comment on it. I did a lot more testing this time, mainly by writing a test program where I tried as many combinations as I could think of. Tested on WinNT and wine using Word2000, WordPad and wine's notepad. Things tested: ShellExecute ShellExecuteEx with SEE_MASK_CLASSNAME with several combinations of fixed and replaced parameters supplying lpDirectory supplying both lpFile and lpParameters supplying only lpFile and getting the registry command from the file extension. Also tested with the pkzip installer, which uses this method to invoke MSI. testing of both open and print commands Some things not yet tested. SEE_MASK_IDLIST and SEE_MASK_INVOKEIDLIST, since I have not figured out how these IDLists work yet (I don't know how to put that in my test program). The URL handling, since ..mumble.. I can't install either IE or Mozilla in Wine. Same problem as Boris Reisig mentioned a few days ago... I also plan to try to copy the WinExec16 stuff over, but that is not in here yet. I'm trying to get a java application running under wine. Amazingly (at least to me :-) ), the application gets a fair way through loading lots of classes as it goes. But, the stumbling block is when the application starts to use network operations, specifically WPUCompleteOverlappedRequest and WSAAddressToStringA. Right now, these are unimplimented and the java app crashes when trying to call them. Before I start looking into these in more detail (I've really no idea what overlapped I/O is all about ...), does anyone plan to implement these in the near future ? Oh, BTW, before you ask... the java app loads a native windows dll as part of its functionality, so I can't use the Linux jvm :-( Cheers, Pete

Oops.. This patch fixes the linking of tests, but it breaks..well..all the .dlls, atleast for me. So, my question is, why does the $(MODULE).so rule in Makedll.rules.in contain $(LDDLLFLAGS)? Until I submitted this patch, that variable was not defined in the makefiles for the .dlls, and the dlls appeared to work fine. Now that this flag is defined, the .dlls don't work, but the tests do work. Should LDDLLFLAGS be removed from the $(MODULE).so rule? What is LDDLLFLAGS defined to on Linux? I only have a Solaris box here to test on, so my insight into the problem is limited. Any insight would be appreciated. Broken forwards in .spec files

When I, with the help of Francois, fixed the statistics for forwarded functions in winapi_extract I notice that a few of the forwards in the .spec files are broken. winapi_check now checks for broken forward when it is run. Bug 434 Update/shot in the dark

Referring to bug: http://bugs.winehq.com/show_bug.cgi?id=434 Under normal circumstances the mouse button doesn't get released in certain applications. These include, Macromedial Flash 5, MS Visual Foxpro 5/6, and Adobe Illustrator 8. I'm working with FoxPro 5. (I have a demo app in the bug report) In *MY* testing, I've noticed that the following command allows the mouse button to be released. wine --debugmsg +scroll,+event,+toolbar,+gdi,+heap vfp.exe If, while running under this command, I _hold_ the mouse button down - longer than a 'click', it will not be released. This seems like a timing issue to me, and started after functions were moved into the wineserver. Not that I know anything about how Wine is setup, but could the 'buttonup' be 'lost', or sent out of sequence, causing it to not be executed? And that sequence is slowed by the debug message enough, that a longer 'buttondown' duration is needed before the bug shows up? Where would be the best place to insert a delay, or extend the timing for a single click (So only the mouseclick function is 'slowed')? Did I miss something? Yesterday when I ran regsvr32 with multiple arguments it registered each one. Today it only registers the first. Yesterday it popped up a MessageBox with the result; today it puts the result on stdout. Does this make sense to anyone? Bill

WINPOS_GetWinOffset (Better Patch)

With respect to this bug (#889) I followed the trail a little bit further as I noticed that "hot spots" on an image (like buttons) would fade in and out when the window wasn't at the top left of the screen. The trail led to the file dlls/x11drv/winpos.c. It is making a call to MapWindowPoints() which in turn calls WINPOS_GetWinOffset(). If I eliminate the call to MapWindowPoints() in the function expose_window() at line 290, (and restore the original version of windows/winpos.c) everything works beautifully. The window draws itself properly and the buttons work as expected. I am not all that familiar with Wine code, though, so can anyone think of a good reason why this code ought to be there? Should I submit a patch? And if so, can anyone point me to the method required for doing so? Thanks. Anthony

IE 5.01 setup cant download? [ie5setup.exe]

Has anyone actually gotten IE 5 or even IE6 working natively under WINE yet? [even under the latest CVS?] For the last few months, I tried running a clean wine installation [without windows] and run ie5seup.exe or even ie6setup.exe and each time it trys to download information, It *always* complains that "Setup was unable to download information about available installation sites" and if I ever go to advanced and add a proxy, wine CRASHES with ["Unhandled exception: page fault on write access to 0x00000000 in 32-Bit mode."] ["Symbol h_errno is invalid"] ["Symbol __strtol_internal is invalid"] ["Symbol hack_digit is invalid"] ["0x4174ad58 (RICHED32.DLL.DllGetVersion+0x32e7f4 in wininet.dll.so:"] The question is has anyone gotten internet explorer installed just from using ie5setup.exe or ie6setup.exe ??

Hello dear list, ** All the following has been teste on debian sid, XF4.0.2-17, latest wine CVS, on a Geforce2 with 2960 nvidia drivers. GL include were the standart mesa ones. system is pIII-smp, stock 2.4.18 kernel. ** I've followed with great interest a thread on wine-devel where Matthieu Foillard explained his problems trying to run warcraft3 under standard wine. I came across the same problem, so i though i could post here to explain what to do. This is really simple, and following Jesse Allen's recommendation found on http://www.winehq.com/hypermail/wine-devel/2002/07/0189.html The problem appears when you try to run warcraft 3 in opengl mode, regardless of whether or not you ran it with d3d and wineX previously. Warcraft is (following Jesse Allen's thought) trying to scan video modes available in OpenGL and gets stuck. However, after only one successful launch, the game creates the registry entries needed, and does not need to go through this detection cycle again. Question is, how to create those entries ? At your option * try to merge/use my user.reg attached below NOTE: i've still to look to the cd-key entry in my brother's win system to add it and be able to connect to battle.net =) You'll get into trouble certainly though, so read on. * try to do a minimal patch to do one successful run (warning, not very beautiful, we're not on wine-devel): You have to edit the function WINPOS_MinMaximize in the file wine/dlls/x11drv/winpos.c modify it so that it'll return SWP_NOSIZE | SWP_NOMOVE; anyway. compile & install, run. I dont know how this morbid modification affects other things. AFTER the successfull run, you can happily launch the game: launch it and relaunch it change resolution at your leasure BUT... If you do only one small change on window focusing... then it seems impossible for the game window to get the focus again on relaunch. All goes to the launching window ; i've tried with various window managers (kwin, pwm, blackbox) : same problem. So I thought : some information is written somewhere, that is not valid any more when i do a focus change. 1) could it be in user.reg/wine itself ? Deleting ~/.wine/user.reg will solve the problem. However, i've diffed two user.reg differently generated ; i'm at a loss to find any significant difference between the two. (the diff's attached) Furthermore, storing away user.reg and rm -Rf'ing ~/.wine, and copying back, with some focus change in between, leads to a non-focused game window. 2) could it be elsewhere ? IT IS ! As a matter of fact, building a fresh user.reg, then replacing it with an old saved one, without focus changes works flawlessly. I'm pretty sure something somewhere gets written with something like a window number in it. I'm pretty sure that's either in X itself or in the window manager. BTW, the results are the same wether i use wine in managed or unmanaged mode : the WM seems to be unaware of the created window. I don't know if I made myself clear ; i'd be glad to help you (*cough*) fix the bug for me, or (*cough* *cough*) give me some information/pointer as to how i could fix it. Preliminary patch for Bug 675 - LVM_SCROLL

The attached patch implements LVM_SCROLL. While not many programs use it, implementing it required changing how scrollbars were handled for all of Listview. This new implementation is much more like the native. The scrollbars mimic the range of pixels that they cover. This allows the specification of a pixel level scroll which is critical to LVM_SCROLL. The only exception (and the native does this also) is for LVS_LIST displays where the scrollbar is related to the number of columns to be displayed. I think this is because the module name is no longer in the .spec file. Lines 71-73 of winapi_extract look for "name" in the .spec file, which no longer exists. Should we be using the file name as the module name? Patch for memory-mapping problem -- See VirtualQuery post

Well, I took off the dirty hack on virtual.c and put inside something that seems to me much more like a real solution. Took off in executable mapping VPROT_WRITE and VPROT_WRITECOPY flags and added VPROT_EXEC; that looks much more close to win2k mapping. The only difference now is in Type field, wine maps as MEM_PRIVATE and win2k as MEM_IMAGE (I guess that's the right one, but no time now to check. Here the attached patch.... any comment appreciated :-) Regards Max

Hi, I was trying to update the API statistics but I got the following errors: $ ./tools/winapi/winapi_extract --stub-statistics Use of uninitialized value in hash element at ./tools/winapi/winapi_extract line 97. Use of uninitialized value in hash element at ./tools/winapi/winapi_extract line 97. ... There is quite a few of these. So I tentatively modified the line as follows: $module2entries{$module} = $entries if (defined $module); But then I got: $ ./tools/winapi/winapi_extract --stub-statistics controls/button.c (file 1 of 796)Not a HASH reference at tools/winapi_check/winapi_parser.pm line 32.
