Right button clicks

Hi Does Wine support right mouse button double clicks? I have an App with a dialog (in fact an overridden MFC CDialog for about infos) in which I can double click with the right mouse button to show some additional info. But they never show up. After +relay tracing the messages I found that only WM_RBUTTONDOWN and WM_RBUTTONUP messages are generated, none of them get converted into clicks or even double clicks, no matter how fast I click. Does anyone have an idea? Thanks Fabi

It's not entirely correct though. My tests show that SetWindowLong(GWL_HWNDPARENT) call changes simultaneously both parent and owner for top level windows and returns old value (not sure old owner or parent it is). But top level windows created by Visual Vasic are special: they have no parent, but only owner according to Spy++. In my tests I can't reproduce it yet. A bit of investigation of Wine source revealed that some places use GetAncestor(hwnd, GA_PARENT), while others use GetParent(hwnd). Since their behaviour is different in respect of top level and child windows, some major clean up in that area in Wine is needed. -- Dmitry.

Hi, the patch below fixes a few things in winemaker. It seems to work with my app, but needs more testing, especially for MFC apps. Modified files: tools: winemaker documentation: winemaker.man Changelog: - adapt winemaker to the new way winebuild handles imports. - fix crashes due to winemaker-generated wrapper app closing libraries (is this one correct??) - Fix some minor bugs in the wrapper.c template. - change semantics of --nomfc option such that it overrides automatic setting of --mfc if stdafx.h or stdafx.cpp are found. (this may cause problems to some people. For me the old behaviour was a pain in the neck, because VC++ generates stdafx.h always, even for pure C projects). The symptoms are the same, but for me the problem is only intermittent. The closest is wait_reply() (in scheduler/client.c) calls wait_reply_data (in same file), which calls NtCurrentTeb(), which is commented as an NTDLL function. Quartz DLL

Hello, I was looking at the WineX cvs version on sourceforge and it looks as if they have a quartz.dll based on ffmpeg. http://cvs.sourceforge.net/cgi-bin/viewcvs.cgi/winex/wine/dlls/quartz/ What are the odd's of this work being put into the main wine tree ? ALSA 0.9 sound problems

Hi =) I have ALSA 0.9 with OSS compat modules. I recently got DeusEx to run (on Wine w/ openGL, not talking about WineX) However using winealsa.drv sound is very laggy and lots of nasty clicks and hissing occurs, but if I use wineoss.drv sound is fine?? (note OSS driver will be talking to ALSA via the snd-pcm-oss compat module) Also when using the wineoss module and the game (not just DeusEx but most games I got working) is setting up sound it seems to freeze, all i do then is ctrl+z, fg, in controling term and things run fine from then on. -TJ

Group, I am not the only developer who has trouble reading the wine debugger screen. The solution which was pointed out will not work for me since I do not run wine that way. We should have a real solution rather than one that is bodged together anyway. What I'm getting at is, are any developers already working on making the debugger screen more readable? Since I cannot do much until this is fixed, I'll take a crack at it if somebody can give me some pointers on changing the concole appearance settings, size/font/etc. Ideally, I'd like this to be controlled by a few variables in the wine configuration file, or registry so that they can be adjusted. My personal preference would be to redirect the debugger to an unsued virtual terminal because I can read those. I'm original developer of quartz. I don't want my quartz code to be restored. There seems to be many patented algorythms. Many codecs like MPEG-1/2/4 are patented. The ffmpeg library seems to use many patented codes. And the legal state of quartz interfaces is unclear for me. I can't accept any liability. I just tried out MYOB (a popular financial program used widely in Australia). The autorun program on the CD attempts to start programs using WinExec as WinExec("whatnews\\whatnews.exe") Unfortunately the FILE_contains_pathW function belueves that is a full path which causes (in files/directory.c): if (FILE_contains_pathW(name)) { ret = DOSFS_GetFullName( name, TRUE, full_name ); goto done; } to fail and return an error to WinExec and subsequently not do anything. The below patch fixes this problem (for me) and lets me install a number of ancillory programs. Unfortunately MYOB install uses InstallShield6 as its installer, so I've had no success with the actual program. Is there a better way to do this patch? trying to draw off-screen

Does anyone know who constrains a window to be on the screen? Our application, in order to minimise flicker, does the hard work with a container application deliberately positioned well off-screen (enormous negative coordinates I think). This works under Windows. However under WINE the initial window appears in the top right corner of my screen (I think I've seen it appear in other corners too on other computers). It then resizes , keeping the same top left corner (with parts of the window off-screen) before correctly repositioning itself into the middle of the screen. Does anyone know which code is doing the initial positioning in the top right corner? Is this deliberate? Bill

wine regression - win16 file read problem!?

Hi! I have recently upgraded wine cvs and done a recompile and install. But now one of the programs I'm using does not work. My last cvs update was about 2 weeks ago. Its an old dictionary program (win16). It starts up ok, but when it tries to open the dictionary data, it says, that it is not found, and I should specify a location. I have looked at the +file debug channel output, and it does not even contain the location I have specified. Does that mean, that it does not even tries to open the file? Does somebody has some ideas where the problem could come from? Or which debug channel should I turn on to get some info about the problem? I just would like to ask for ideas before I start more serious debugging... Thanks Zsolt

Well, if you just want all .h files the DLL depends on MSVC already have that in a automatically generated "folder" called External dependencies. The H_SRCS is mostly for the .h files that you are likely to want to look at or modify while developing the DLL under MSVC. But it is not strictly nessary. It is more a convenience sort of thing. Another reason that I proposed it is that maybe H_SRCS could be used fo something else though I can't think of anything right now... But sure I can search for the .h files in the director{y,ies} of each DLL. However for a DLL like ntdll files like include/wine/exception.h is very much relevent and won't be included is such a case. Not that it really matters that much but still...

WineDbg and sources

Hello If WineDbg stops it tries to show the actual source line. With my files it always says "Unable to open file X" Looking into debugger/source.c I found that it always bails out after stat (returns -1). This seems like it can't find the file. But if I use wine wcmd I can go there without a problem. My guess is that stat is a Unix tool and therefore case sensitive so this could arise a problem. But still after trying out different cases it could never find my source files. The code looks good as does the (windows-) path it is looking for the file. The only reason is the failing return value of stat. Is it important if the files are Dos/Unix style? (Kate says it's Unix). Does anybody have any ideas? Thanks Fabi

Hello I think I found my (or better a :) problem with fonts. The function GetObject <MSDN> int GetObject( HGDIOBJ hgdiobj, // handle to graphics object int cbBuffer, // size of buffer for object information LPVOID lpvObject // buffer for object information ); </MSDN> should either return the info in the object buffer or, if this pointer is zero, just the size the required info would need. <MSDN> If the lpvObject parameter is NULL, the function return value is the number of bytes required to store the information it writes to the buffer for the specified graphics object. </MSDN> But I couldn't find this anywhere, not in the general function in gdiobj.c nor in the subtypes FONT_GetObject or BRUSH_GetObject (sure others neither). As my app uses this feature Wine tries to memcpy to a NULL pointer and jumps out of the window... literally :) bye Fabi

In doing so the company was said to be referring to the official table of fees[2], according to which a fee of 75 US cents per MP3 decoder or a one-off payment of 60,000 US dollars (for patent and software; 50,000 US dollars for the patent only) was due. As a matter of fact this rule has been in force for about eighteen months now[3]. At that time not only was the web design of MP3licensing.com modified, in the course of the creation of the then new MP3Pro the licensing conditions were also adjusted. Another decisive passage was also scrapped at that time: "No license fee is expected for desktop software mp3 decoders/players that are distributed free-of-charge via the Internet for personal use of end-users". By inquiring with the Fraunhofer Institute for Integrated Circuits (IIS[4]) and MP3Pro developer Coding Technologies[5] heise online was able to verify the existence of this link -- the tumult has hence been pretty late in coming. Given that Thomson Multimedia has since then not taken any legal steps against developers or distributors of non-commercial MP3 decoders, it does not appear that the future of free MP3 decoders is in jeopardy. As it is, for Thomson to take drastic legal measures in this matter would not make much sense: There is not much money to be had from freeware and open source developers who have created their own MP3 decoders. This is probably the reason why the licensor has refrained to date from taking the appropriate steps. The situation appears to be different with regard to encoders for the creation of MP3 files, however: As a rule in these cases the Fraunhofer Institute as well as Thomson insist that the licensing conditions be met; an open source packet called lame does, however, exist (whether, in the event, its self-referential Gödelian acronym reading LAME Ain't a Mp3 Encoder has enough protective charm is a moot point). It is also not to be feared that such popular players as Winamp or the Musicmatch Jukebox will in future be distributed free-of-charge only without an MP3 decoder: Nullsoft as well as Musicmatch are among the official licensees of MP3(Pro), in the case of Musicmatch this statement also applies to its integrated encoder. Whatever the merits, if any, of the changes in licensing conditions, Mr. Emmett Plant, CEO by profession of Xiph.org Foundation has expressed his considerable delight at the turn of events. In an open letter[6] he thanked Thomson Multimedia. "Thank you for the huge amount of free advertising to our benefit created by your announcement that licensing conditions had changed," Mr. Plant wrote. The letter closes with: "We support all actions on the part of Thomson that make it plain that MP3 costs money. Once again thank you and good luck." I don't think we need to go that far as to remove it. IIRC LAME an mp3 ENCODER (that was non royalty free even before) got around it by only distributing source code and so can we. BTW: Why do we include a mp3 decoder in the Wine tree? Why not just link to an external library? I can't see maintaining a mp3 decoder being in the best intrest of Wine anyway patents or not...

The value for this error code reminds me values for STATUS_ constants. Could you check if this is correct value? Is it definend in header file with other ERROR_ constants or with STATUS_ constants? WIN_Handle{16,32} questions

Hello, while converting HWND to a void* i've seen that the WIN_Handle{16,32} functions were used (but not everywhere) to do the conversion HWND16 <--> HWND. WIN_Handle16 is declared and implemented in include/win.h and WIN_Handle32 is also declared in include/win.h but implemented in windows/win.c . I have used both functions with success in dlls/user/, windows/, controls/ but i would have to link to windows/win.c to make that work for other dlls too. Assuming that WIN_Handle{16,32} are not windows funtions (a search on google has given only links to wine pages) i would do following: - rename WIN_Handle{16,32} to HWND_{16,32} to make the naming consistent to the othe handle conversions - maybe remove the declaration of the two functions from include/win.h (or at least don't include win.h where it isn't yet used) - define HWND_16 as macro like the other HANDLE_16 macros and put it directly in the files where it's needed - HWND_32 has to do a little bit more work then the other HANDLE_32 macros and i would keep it as function. This means it has to be duplicated in every dll that needs it and one of the *16.c files in the dll directory would be the place to put it in. Well, SW_HIDE is supposed to hide the window, not iconify it, so we are not supposed to get a MapNotify at this point. BreakOnDllLoad crashes Wine

Hi I set the registry setting BreakOnDllLoad to 1 to find a problem in the DllMain function of my dll. Like that WineDbg stops first while loading NTDll.dll. After continuing with c it stops again at Kernel32.dll. If I try now to continue with c I get an "illegal instruction in 32-bit code" and I can't continue. Without the registry setting it starts up without a problem. Has anyone else had this problem? Return value GetStockObject

Hi again In my app I try to get a handle to a system font with following call: HGDIOBJ hobj=GetStockObject(ANSI_FIXED_FONT); If the call succeeds it should return a handle to the requested object, otherwise zero. In Windows I get something like 0x018A000E (looks ok), but in Wine I get 0x0000009E. Even not zero I can't imagine that this is a valid handle (address). ANSI_FIXED_FONT is never really used in Wine, only SYSTEM_FONT. Is this an error or am I barking up the wrong tree? Thanks Fabi

I'm completely new to the Wine project mailing list - but I noticed on the status page mentioned below there's a section for "CPU Emulation" which has "No serious efforts yet". Is there some plan to integrate bochs (or some other) x86 emulator into WINE so WINE can be run on non-x86 platforms. I realise this is very non-critical to 1.0 release! Just interested. Wine Ma os X port

Im kinda new to Wine, and I hope to get into very much, however I had one question which im sure everyone has heard alot of. Is there any way to run WINE on mac OS X being that it is based on FreeBSD. I have played around with the mac's and have gotten several linux programs to run, however i haven't tried wine yet. I do no that os X comes with many development tools that could possible be used for porting an app, but then again i am new at this so im not sure. Any information on this would be greatly appreciated.
