uxtheme.dll

I started work porting a windows app using winelib, and hit an issue relating to the fact that there is currently no implementation of uxtheme.dll (and more importantly, no headers, of which would be enough to compile the app as it dynamically loads all the uxtheme dlls as needed, and falls back gracefully) Because of this, I've been thinking about beginning an implementation of uxtheme.dll. I am curious if someone has already taken up this task, or if anyone any opinions on this topic. Thanks Kevin

Hi list, What about Sorrento, there are good conference facilities, hotel rooms can cost as little as 60 euro per night, it's warm (temperature in between 10 and 20 C°), there a lot to see and to do(For example it's only twenty minutes from Pompei and fifteen from Capri) there is good transport, prices are low (It is south europe), I can get it organized if you don't want to go to siberia.

I can't see that any significant effort have made to collect these facts. Each of these facts is very easy to collect for anybody competent in any language that Unicode defines the alphabet for. 2. Unicode comparison order lies more in the area of algoritms and science than any facts about the world that the law have been designed to protected, so courts at least in Sweden would be very reluctant to extend to the law to this since it is doubtful that the lawmakers really intended this.

I think it depends where you live. If you aren't copying any original code you aren't violating copyright. In the EU (This includes the UK so I doubt that this http://www.winehq.org/hypermail/wine-devel/2003/10/0076.html can apply to the UK), even if you disassemble something to understand how it works and write something that does the same thing, it's legal, so until you aren't doing copy/paste from the original code you're OK, even if you've read it to see how it works. In places where software patents are valid, you may be breaking the law, if that software is patented(DMCA?).

question about copyright and code, is this legal?

Say I have a piece of code, x (which is copyright) which always returns the same output for a given input (e.g. a function that implements a math formula or a function that retrieves some value from an internal data table stored in the dll or whatever) Lets then say that I havent seen this code (either origonal C code or disassembly) Say I was to write a program that calls this function for all valid inputs and prints the inputs and outputs. If I was to take the output of this program and, without refering to the origonal function or the dump program in any way (i.e. using just the "truth table" for the function) generate a function that, for any given input, generates the same output as the original, have I broken the law?

Program won't run in debugger

Hi all, I am trying to find out why Wine is not working with some closed application, and fix it. I have narrowed it down from the logs to something to do with MDI (Multiple Documents Interface). However - trying to connect with a debugger to the program causes the program to bomb quite bombastically. It appears that someone (ddd/gdb won't give me a stack frame, so I can only assume this is in the PE portion of the native application, rather than inside Wine) keeps calling STI and CLI (Set Interrupt and Clear Interrupt). This generates a segmentation fault (makes sense - this is priveleged command). If I do "cont", things continue (I can't vouch as to how long they do), but another sementation fault is right around the corner then. On the other hand, if I detach the debugger from the process, the process runs fine. I am at a loss as to what might be the cause. Is there any way to tell gdb to ignore the segmentation fault, and just let the builtin handler take care of it? Will using winedbg instead do me any good? On an unrelated note - I tried running valgrind-wine on the process. It complained right at the start that wine calls system vector 7 (waitpid), which is unsupported by valgrind. This seems odd to me, as this would suggest noone has ever ran valgrind successfully on wine. Implementing waitpid in valgrind produces even stranger result - it seems valgrind exists almost immedietly, while the main process continues onward. Anyone has similar experience with valgrind? I/O port access broken (SEH broken)

Hi all, sounds like the recent architectural changes were a bit too much: now I get Unhandled exception: privileged instruction in 32-bit code (0x0040348b). In 32-bit mode. 0x0040348b (FT255_T32.exe..text+0x248b in FT255_T32.exe): outb %al,%dx Wine-dbg> with a parallel port flash tool I'm trying to use, whereas before it used to work with both direct I/O port access and ppdev. Can I do this or does it get us into trouble?

I am trying to solve some focus problems I am having with Wine and I want to know just how far I can go without causing legal problems. The main problem is that under Windows a WM_KILLFOCUS is being sent during the processing of a WM_SETFOCUS message. However It doesn't appear to be being sent by any application code so I presume it is being sent by some Windows code. If I run the application under the Windows debugger, break in the WM_KILLFOCUS handler and do a stack trace to look for hints, and we use the resulting information then does that get us into trouble (since it is going to contain information about e.g. user32.dll)? March would be good, it's much nicer then, but any later than that and it will be packed with tourists (And prices will go up). The nearest airport is Naples, a train takes about an hour to get to Sorrento from there. For the EU there are direct connections, from the US and Canada you will probably have to get a flight to Rome, and then precede to Naples from there, it takes about twenty minutes. Comments from anybody planning to participate are welcome.

Translating WINE using dedicated tools

[Please CC me, I'm not subscribed to this list] Hello, I've read in the last Wine KC that you are getting troubles to keep the translation of wine uptodate. I am pretty well involved in the translation of free software, and this is a common issue for all of us. It is so common that I did a program to deal easily with the translation of any kind of resource. This is called po4a (po for anything), and you can find more details about this on http://savannah.nongnu.org/projects/po4a and http://www.nongnu.org/po4a/ . The idea is to ease the convertions resource -> po file and then po -> resource when the translation is done. So, checking if the translation is uptodate is as easy as used the dedicated tools of the gettext world. Po4a is fully modular, and all we have to do to let wine using it is a new (perl) module to parse it. You can find more details about how to do a module using `perldoc Locale::Po4a::TransTractor` once the program is installed. I would like to help here, but I need to know the gramar of the resource files. Do you have any parsers around there ? The better would be to have Perl based ones, since this is the language used in po4a. What do you guys think? Mt. Fix for notepad and winecfg losing focus

Hello! Our notepad has a bug that causes it to lose focus on startup. In order to initialize the new document, WinMain() calls DIALOG_FileNew(), which focuses the editor subwindow. The problem is that it happens before ShowWindow() is called on the main window. As a result, focusing the subwindow causes "activation" of its parent without actually showing it. This leaves the code in dlls/user/focus.c in the confused state. When ShowWindow() is called, the window is not brought to foreground because it's "already active". Then set_active_window() decides to draw the inactive caption because the window is not in foreground. Windows 2000 doesn't show this problem. Notepad and winecfg are focused properly on startup. I think there are many solutions to this problem. For example, the check for visibility could be moved from SetActiveWindow() to the lower-level set_active_window(). The attached patch is minimally intrusive. This decreases its chances of breaking anything, but it may not be the best radical solution. If SetFocus() finds an invisible window while looking for the ultimate parent, it fails. The same is already done for minimized and disabled windows. The patch has been successfully tested in the non-managed and desktop modes. The managed node is not affected because the captions are not shown. Does anyone know about WM_SETFOCUS and EN_SETFOCUS

Is anyone out there an expert in Windows focus handling? I have problems with our application and the focus handling in places. Basically it seems to me that there is some sort of logic in windows whereby the code calls PostMessage (WM_SETFOCUS) but the result is that the parent of the target window receives WM_COMMAND EN_SETFOCUS instead.
