text edit box not painting text ( on form startup )

( I have posted a similiar question in wine-users, don't flame me for doing so, just thinking about this some more, perhaps it may be more a developer question ) Ok, I have a windows app, that runs under wine fine - not quite. This app has a form, with many text field edit boxes on. Quite often these edit boxes already have text values, ie. they are not empty - there is a database behind the form. Anyway, the form shows on the screen, but the text within the edit fields is invisible, until you activate each edit box component. When you leave one edit box to the next, the text remains visible. It seems like the repainting is not working, on initial startup of the form. As a way to debug this database app ( I don't have the source code for it ) I wrote a real basic form app in Visual Studio, with two edit boxes, with data in each. Now this basic app shows the text values immediately on startup. So there must be something different that the database app is not doing. I then ran wine using 'wine --debugmsg +edit programname' for both app's. I see both logging 'Creating ANSI edit control, style = xxxxx' but the style reference is different between apps - I am not sure if this the cause or not. The problem app reports style = 54011104 and the basic app shows style = 50010080. Can somebody explain what this style reference means and how do I force an app to use a certain style of edit box ? What other wine class debugmsg types should I use to narrow down the source of this problem ? MinGW cross compilation enviroment setup

Hello! Here are the steps needed to setup a MinGW on a Red Hat Linux like rpm based system (Fedora Core, Mandrake Linux, ... should probably work even on a SuSE Linux) * Download the mingw-binutils and mingw-gcc srpm's from http://ftp.redhat.com/pub/contrib/libc6/SRPMS/ * Download the mingw-3.0-1.src.rpm srpm from http://ftp.redhat.com/pub/contrib/libc6/noarch/SRPMS/ * Build the mingw and mingw-binutils rpm's (rpmbuild --rebuild $SRPM) and install them. * After the above step you can build the mingw-gcc rpm too. Install it. * That's almost everything: you need this patch for wine's configure to make it find your mingw binaries. * For instructions how to build the Wine tests for Windows see the Wine Documentation. You may want to try your local Red Hat mirror for the above srpm's. Mouse up vs Mouse click

Hi Where is decided if I release the mouse button if a mouse up or a mouse click is generated? Is this time dependent? Or generally the same? The misbehaving app uses a ownerdrawn, CListCtrl-derived list. When I click on a cell not in the first column the cell gets selected. But on wine I can see that the selection flashes shortly and disappears right again (Surprisingly it works when I click in the first column. As my application uses the same code for all columns it must be something else.). After putting some debug messages in my code I found that on Windows after the left-button-down event a left-button-click event is generated, no matter how long I hold the button before releasing. On wine there is no click event but a mouse up event. And the cell flashes even when I hold the button, so it's not the releasing itself that clears the selection. The control is a bit quirky with moving focus around and handling events specially. But still it works on Windows :) Now I'm a bit lost how I can debug this. +mouse didn't show anything usefull. I guess the generating and sending of the events is done in the wineserver. Thankful for any hints. bye Fabi

Wine history draft

I put together the following: http://users.theshell.com/~vinn/wine-history.html There's two major additions I'd like to see and I don't think I'm capable of doing them: 1) Wine history from 1994 - 1999 with a specific emphasis on changes to the architecture, design decisions that got discarded, developers who've come and gone. 2) Specific quotes from over the years. I sort of put some examples of that in the document above. Humorous quotes would be especially nice. If no one has any suggestions then I'll likely just remove the existing ones and add the information to the relevant paragraphs. I'm also thinking of adding a paragraph on the tools and programs developed for Wine. Wine in gdb brokenness

It looks like it might be the NPTL runtime detection stuff, does anybody have any ideas?

Running Wine under MS SFU under Wine ... ?

I recently posted with problems running Microsoft's Services for Unix under Wine. I only tried it out of morbid curiosity, actually, and because MS was offering it for free. The free offer expired, but it's back again for a little while; slashdot.org seems to be running banner ads for it. I'd encourage any of you who even *might* be tempted to try this out to go order the CD-ROM. It would be way bitchin' cool if we could nest Wine and MS SFU (I seem to recall we can't nest Wine in Cygwin for some technical reason, but who knows, maybe SFU won't have the same problem). - Dan

Problem with Access-mdb/DAO

Hi I have posted this problem already long time ago but I never found the time to test it again. http://www.winehq.org/hypermail/wine-devel/2002/11/1530.html But now I tried with the actual wine from cvs (2003-12-03) and it's still there. The problem is that if I try to create a table in a Access database the last char of the name gets lost. I now have a small program which shows this error, maybe someone can use it for finding this bug. It's a simple VC6 Wizard generated Win32 command line app which uses MFC for DAO. The first time I tried was with SUSE 8.0, now I have Knoppix 3.3 (Debian). event.c freezes on XFilterEvent

Hi, I'm rather new to wine developement, and Xlib coding, and this is my first post to the list so bare with me please.... ;-) dlls/x11drv/event.c seems to freeze at XFilterEvent and brings the app to seizure ever since all the TSX functions have been gotten rid off... This is what happens: I run notepad, and start typing. Everything works fine until I hit shift+space which is the toggle for XIM (kinput in my case). Notepad freezes here. The trace on keyboard tells me that there is no character for the key combination and freezes right after; trace:keyboard:KEYBOARD_MapDeadKeysym no character for dead keysym 0x0000ffe1 >From my investigation, it seems that XFilterEvent (event.c, function process_events) <code> ignore = XFilterEvent( &event, None ); </code> is causing this. If I get rid of the whole check, and pass all the events to EVENT_ProcessEvent() , notepad would not freeze. XFilterEvent is supposed to return TRUE when the event is filtered by the XIM, but chances are that since the XIM functionalities are currently not really there, XFilterEvent cannot talk to the XIM context. As far as I remember when the TSX functions were there, the XIM window did pop up(despite XIM not working properly). I'm trying to trace the changes to see what might be causing this, but without much luck so far... I'm more than willing to try and fix this, as XIM support is critical for people from my part of the world (Japan, and most likely for Korea & China). We've been coming up with rather crude patches to have XIM work till now(upto 20031118), but can't get it to work because of this strange freezure we are experiencing.... Hack for the '-pthread' at make depend

On my configuration, the 'artsc-config' script outputs '-pthread' along with the '-Isth' entries. That broke the 'makedep' procedure. It's trivial. The following patch handles this.
