OpenOffice1.1.0 / wine-20031118 crash on startup

Pure, fresh install of wine-20031118 from sources on a dual processor Red Hat 9 machine. Installed winzip, used it to unpack OpenOffice1.1.0. Installed OpenOffice1.1.0. Install went fine. Found no 'soffice.exe' of any sort, so ran Winefile and double-clicked on the "Open Text Document.lnk" in c:\windows\OpenOffice1.1.0 directory. Boom! Problem with latest MDK package.

Hi folks, not sure if this belongs on this list or not, and its probably a stupidly simple question, but its got me stumped. I just installed the latest MDK package for wine (wine-20031118-mdk.i586) to update the one that shipped with MDK 9.2 (wine-20030813-1mdk.i586). Now, when I try and run wine I get wine: error while loading shared libraries: libwine.so.1: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory libwine.so.1 is in /usr/lib/wine and I've run ldconfig after the package install, but still no joy. Any ideas what's going on here? The install also un-installed several other packages (not sure which ones though, good aren't I??) that I probably need to re-install too. It also removed the menu icons for wine and left XWine not functioning too (guess that's because wine doesn't work though). Thanks heaps. Peter Nunn. -- Think IT for your computing needs. WineX 3.2

As you probably already know, Marek Lipovcan and I build RPMs of WineX for Linux Red Hat, Suse, Mandrake and compatible distros, and host them (With a bz2 of the source) on www003.portalis.it/115/ I think this is a fact that could interest a lot of people, would it be OK for me to add a link to the site in the Commercial Wine Versions section under the link to Transgaming in the wine binary download page? BTW I've just published the MDK and Suse RPM of winex 3.2, but only geeks read this list, so if you're going to try winex it you'll probably compile from source anyway.

Hello! Once I tried to install the win32 version of gimp-1.3.xx-i686 using wine and the installer refused to install because gimp was only compiled for newer processors. The author told me, that he uses the GetSystemInfo function to get the data he needs. I know that all the information I need can be read from /proc/cpuinfo - but perhaps there is an easier way then reading it from there as I don't know if it is still there in 2.6. Hi, You will need two screenshots one 200x150 and one 800x600 without scaling it down if possible. I believe the characteristics should be, No clutter & make the app as prominate as possiable. You will also want to reduce the size of the 200x150 shot as much as possible (but not to the point that its ugly) as it will be on the front page. To help save on bandwith, load faster ect. I would send them to wine-patches under WineHQ: Then if Jer wants to pick them up and put them in the que they would be there.. Is this correct? Tom

cvs access && updating news items

Guess I need to be more careful what I wish for.. Jeremy was kind enough to set me up with CVS access to the web site. As such, I won't be mailing a copy to wine-patches any more unless someone thinks it's useful. The real good news is each WWN will be posted as soon as I get done writing it and it should appear more regularly (famous last words..) Back in March I made this post: http://www.winehq.com/hypermail/wine-devel/2003/03/0685.html If no one objects I'd like to post more stuff to the front page news section. In some ways it will repeat items that will be covered in more detail in each WWN issue. The idea is to keep more current with Wine-related press releases and maybe generate more traffic/interest in Wine. News items would definitely include commercial products. Also, I can get away with more than Jeremy could - it would have looked kind of shady if he posted something about Codeweavers but forgot something about TG. Instead I'll just use my own judgement to figure out if it's related to Wine. If someone disagrees they can just deal with it^H^H^H^H^H^H send me an email. -Brian Vincent

There is a very simple solution: Don't run winetests.exe from the desktop, and the desktop icons will stay intact, at least on win2k3. It would be a good idea to put a warning in the readme and on the download page.
