winetest.exe no results

I'm back after a long time just lurking. I was realy excited about the conformance testing program. Since I am the IT Administrator of a company that uses a wide variety of windows versions (no NT3 sorry) I will be able to submit a good number of tests results. The problem I have under windows 98 is that the zip file found here http://afavant.elte.hu/~wferi/wine/ produces an results.txt file but the (newer) exe found here http://vmlinux.org/jakov/Wine/ locks up without producing any output (even when redirected >). Both tests freeze at the same place. That is they both lock up during the console test (kernel32_crosstest.exe console) the test produces a blue "abc" in the top right hand corner of my dos prompt box and requires that I "Ctrl-C" to get out. Max Payne & resolution detection

To continue the resolution detection problems story, today comes Max Payne. My X resolution is 1280x1024x16. If run under desktop mode with a size of 640x480, Max Payne sees correctly video modes (640, 800, 1024 and 1280) but fails with a BadWindow error. Since this error is usually corrected by disabling desktop mode, I comment it into .wine/config. Now Max Payne sees only 1280x1024, all other modes arent listed anymore. Keyboard problems

Hi When running eg. notepad with latest wine cvs, wine doesn't correctly find out my Finnish keyboard. Instead it is using Latin American keyboard because it's getting the highest score when X11DRV_KEYBOARD_DetectLayout is choosing keymap. I've looked in wine/dlls/keyboard.c and noticed that in Latin American keymap there are not many Alt-Gr characters. Every Alt-Gr charater produces an error and lowers the score of even right keymap and that is why wrong keymap is selected. So it seems like there is a problem detecting the keys right. Any thoughts? I've attached a debuglog of wine -debugmsg +keyboard,+key notepad My system is RH 9 and /etc/sysconfig/i18n says: LANG="en_US.iso885915" SUPPORTED="en_US.iso885915:en_US:en" SYSFONT="latarcyrheb-sun16"

DLL Overrides and Winecfg

I have recently noticed the large number of Stub DLLs being Added to wine with minimal functionality, for example Msi, MSHTML (they don't work for me in any case). These additions have not for the most part been accompanied with a new "native, builtin" entry in samples/config. Due to the forthcoming removal of the config file, i assume this functionality will be added to winedefault.reg. This is less than ideal for people who track CVS or install from source with each new release since, as before, their registry will not be automatically updated to match winedefault.reg. Is there a mechanism for Wine dlls to specify a preferred override automatically (e.g. where the built-in DLL holds no functionality, whereas the native one works correctly, and if not how difficult would it be to implement this, (e.g By adding the entries to the registry in DllRegisterServer or some similar mechanism) -- Matthew (Jabba The Hutt) Davison <m.davison(a)virgin.net>

I.e. it's quite a fair play to assume that the user has correctly configured the system to work with his/her locale. That's exactly my point. If the user didn't correctly configure his/her locale wrt. The iocharset of the drive, then trouble's ahead. So, we can either suggest that it's up to the user to do it correctly (and in that case CP_UNIXCP is just fine for internal handling) ; or we don't (and this was, to my understanding, the need of the codepage option in drive configuration). Basically my question could be rephrased as do we really need this option, or can we remove it. My first (dumb) reaction was if it's in there, it means we need it for some cases. But, I don't want to support this codepage option for no real need, so if no one objects, we could remove it. A+

I will work on this but it may be a while. Once I get my internet connection back up at home I am going to spend some time working on getting more of WINE to build with MS_VC and the PSDK. Once that is done we can do the Mingw work and of course Winmm will be part of this. I cant give any time table except to say my cable should be back up in a week or two. I wont be able to implement the needed interfaces in to winmm that will still be up to you but we should have the dll ported and working with w32api in a month or two. Hang when the apps used editmask object

Hi.., I got applications running well on windows environment, but when I run it with wine running on Linux the applications stop/hangs. I check the programs and when I removed the editmask object, the program could run (not hang). What's wrong with it? I tested it with wine 20030911 and 20030813.tar.gz FYI, we develop the programs with PowerBuilder. I debug the program when running it with wine and found the error message is (with editmask object): fixme:file:DeviceIoControl Unimplemented control 256 for VxD device NWLINK Could someone tell me what's should I do know? Hello Pavel, While you are looking at running the WINE programs under Windows can you take a look at the uninstaller program? When I build this program with Mingw or MS_VC and try to run it under Windows it crashes. It seems somehow it has a problem loading the registry entries in the uninstall key. If you run uninstaller on a clean Windows 2000 system it will function without crashing but as soon as data is in that registry branch it crashes. Just a little change to the alsa APIs will make my patch don't work any more. That's also the reason why I want to do some checks. So I think that people (at least me) would be glad to have another choice ... if you do have some time:-). Maybe there are some more smart opinions.

Using latest CVS : Enabling dsound interactive tests with WINETEST_INTERACTIVE, I get many errors like this one, always the same : dsound.c:1223: Test failed: MsgWaitForMultipleObjects failed: 0x102 dsound.c: 42774 tests executed, 0 marked as todo, 80 failures. Im using wineoss with OSS compatibility to do these tests. Kernel : 2.4.20-20.9 Using winealsa, the sound produced during the test is awful, full of noise. Install regression

It's kind of sad nobody noticed this for so long, but it seems the new visual regedit tool caused a major regression in the ./tools/wineinstall script - of course rather than simply importing the winedefault.reg file it now pops up the regedit window. I'd submit a patch but I have no idea why this happens - the new regedit *does* support importing reg files from the command line right? thanks -mike

Some interesting stuff about the longhorn APIs, will the wine GDI be complete they are also obsolete? The good news is that if the windows APIs go from 76.000 to 8-10.000 then the longhorn APIs should be implemented in wine much faster. A: In the technology generations leading up to Longhorn, Microsoft has been moving to a .NET-based managed code environment, and the Longhorn generation will finally mark a clean split with the Win32 APIs of the past. That is, Win32 will be in maintenance mode, and all new development will occur with managed .NET APIs. One such API, Avalon, forms the basis for the new Desktop Compositing Engine (DCE) in Longhorn that replaces GDI and GDI+. Another, called Aero, provides APIs for the new user interface. All of the new Longhorn APIs will utilize the XML Application markup language (XAML) to make Longhorn more accessible to developers than ever before. The idea is to significantly reduce the number of APIs and make the APIs more standardized. Today, there are over 76,000 Win32 APIs, and countless wrappers. Hello, I ssh to remote machine, which is not running X, and run console win32 application on it. Now 2 questions: It seems remote wine uses my local fonts when rebuilding, could it be so? DISPLAY=localhost:10.0 on remote pc. How to disable font metrics rebuilding? I don't think fonts are needed for console apps. Regards, Nerijus

I will share all my source & make environment, including .diff patches to ATL/WTL/MFC so any wtl mfc activex project should compile. I intend to supply example projects for MFC GUI and ODBC, WTL apps and ATL com controls all compiled with winelib on Linux. I will show how to compile the C runtime from MSVC. I just need to have every thing linking and running here at work, then I will have time to update to the newer wine and submit the patches. I hope the wine project will be happy to host some of them. the one not accepted I will have available on the NET on my site. Compiling tests with MSVC headers

Compiling with MSVC 7, using MSCV headers. For the record: to compile tests/dpa.c for comctl32.dll you need the latest commctrl.h from Microsoft. The one they settled to publish: http://msdn.microsoft.com/library/default.asp?url=/library/en-us/dnapiover/… Download the SDK and copy needed files in to Visual Studio. (Or just use the SDK, I think you should be able to compile C and C++ programs with it, no GUI included though.) regards, Jakob

What todo with stubs in Winlib

Winebuild would not recognize stubs for linking. So an app that runs under wine will not compile under winelib. ( stubbed functions are linked to but are not actually used). [Q] What should one do with all these stub functions? redefine them in a separate file? would it make any logic to tell winebuild - with a special switch - to link also to stubs? ( how hard is that hack?)

Vincent, your tool has a little problem: It isn't clear where I'm meant to run it from. Fromt the wine source root, I get a message saying that ../../tools/wrc doesn't exist, putting it in a directory 2 levels down (So that ../../tools/wrc does exist) I get this [ivan(a)localhost wrc]$ ./01-verif-rc2__charset_ISO-8859-15 Could not open rsrc.rc grep: xx????: No such file or directory DIALOG: grep: xx????: No such file or directory Ressource type unknown: [ivan(a)localhost wrc]$ I'm may be missing something obvious. The translation.sh that Dimi sent is much better (For now), for a start it works, but it is so slow, something faster (Maybe something that can be compiled?) would be very nice.
