I was looking over this page when I converting the appdb.winehq.org site over to the new theme. It seems to me that we could drop this page if we added a new field to the appDB called "medal" or something. Then you can go through and mark the apps that are Gold, or Silver directly in the appDB. I could add a report to the sidebar menu of the appDB called "Supported Apps", it would then show the gold and silver apps from the db. You would then need to add your notes about these apps to their descriptions. Seems simple enough. This would then allow the "Applications" link in the main menu of WineHQ go directly to the app db. I see this: @ varargs sscanf(str str) in ntdll.spec but I cant find the defintion behind it. Also, searching on source.winehq.org doesnt find it either

Using limits.h

Hi All, I'm trying to use the default limits.h installed on my Debian Woody system, so that I can use either LLONG_MAX or LONG_LONG_MAX in Wine. Does anyone know of anything special I have to define so that these are defined? I have tried __USE_ISOC99, but no joy. Rob

Current Working Dir?

Hi I just updated to the actual cvs version and tried to run my program. It's a simple Win32 command line tool which reads a text file from the same directory called Update.ini. When I run it with winedbg it opens the app console window and brings me an app error dialog that it can't find the second text file. After tracing with +file,+dosfs it seems that it's only looking in my home dir instead of the dir where the exe is. Is this true? Note that my fake C-Drive is not below home. But wine is. Does this matter? Solved ! Problem was in TreeView control (dll/comctl32/treeview.c) all the time. TreeView was not handling WM_CREATE properly - it did not forward CREATESTRUCT (in lParam) to TREEVIEW_Create function and that function was setting hwndNotify window to GetParent(hwnd) instead window handle given in CREATESTRUCT. Except that is not what the windows version does; regedit /s should be silent, without the /s mine asks if I am sure I want to import. Also note that there was a defect in 20030813 in the regedit area; the RedHat rpms (at least the 8 and presumably the 9.0) that fixed it and it has been fixed in the source now. Some people on wine-users are complaining that regedit winedefault.reg doesn' t always work correctly, somebody posted this solution http://www.winehq.org/hypermail/wine-users/2003/09/0062.html but it would be a very nice thing if regedit winedefault.reg exited with no output and just worked like it has always done with the command line version.

The new list had an immediate response after it showed up on WineHQ - somebody submitted her testresults of Total Commander run under Wine. Maybe we should keep it that way? If people submit their stories there, so much the better - bugzilla will be kept more free from loose ends. No risk of mixing up with the winetests.exe generated regression tests either - those have a different subject. regards, Jakob

Dear All, I would like to understand how each Windows Messages like WM_COMMAND are processed and handled by wine ? If i call a function SendMessage and pass one window handle to it with the appropriate message (i.e WM_GETTEXT ) how it will be processed ? Is it going through the wine-server ? I'm basically interested in learning about window messages processing and how each window/dialog/controls creation/updation/manipulation are handled in wine ? Is this such that all window messages are going through wine-server ? If i wanted to trace/hook the window message, is there any --debugmsg params available ? Is there any documentation (developer) available for wine-server ?. I would like to understand the architecture/functionality of the wine-server. It would be better if there is a document which explains the incoming/outgoing packets (Requests/Responses) between client and then wine-server ? when i looked at the wine-devel documentation on wine-server, it says that 'wineserver is the confusing concept in wine ' ? Is it so ...? If i didn't framed my questions properly, please forgive me as i'm very novice is wine and hopefully show some progress when i feel comfortable with my wine study...! Wine with VB6

Dear All, I've installed the Wine version 20030813 as suggested by the group members. I am able to run and use many of the window applications. I've installed VB6 on my windows partititon and when i run it with wine, the VB6 is starting well and loading the project which i've choosen from the list. But when i run the project, it is reporting an error called "Automation Error". I'm using the MS VB 6 Working Model Edition on Win98 Installation. Is this error something got to do with Registry or any Native Dll should be used ? Please help me on this. I've one more query...! I've written one project which basically scans/sends Messages (SendMessage) to any of the specified Target Window controls to retrive the data in it. For example i.e If it is an List View Control, my programs sends appropriate messages to retrive the now of rows and each row columns text from it. I perhaps worded my original mail badly. The code is the same only as far as I used the same function and variable names (but s/serial/parallel/). The actual functions themselves have some significant differences. Putting conditions all over the serial stuff doesn't seem the most elegant way of implementing this. But if that's what it will take to get my patch accepted then I'll get onto it.

I thought it might be my ati binary graphics drivers, (although this was never a problem before), so I put them in "wine TLS compatibility mode", or whatever, but no change. Maybe something with my new 260-test4 kernel? Running a simple test program which does getpwuid( getuid() ) works fine. Question regarding development..

Hi, I've read many of the various articles/faq's etc posted on the winehq.com website, but I have not encountered any so far the really answer my question. My question is this, I have a Universal Subscription to MSDN which includes among other things, debug versions of the operating systems. Am I allowed to run debug os in connection with say a piece of test code, with the purpose of extracting the necessary api information/functionality so it can be rewritten into wine or must I treat it as a black box and ignore the debug versions that I possess? If my question isn't clear enough I'd be happy to restate it. Thanks! Somebody was asking about what is allowed with respect to using Microsoft SDKs when writing Wine code. I have no answer for his question, but did spend a few minutes digging up interesting bookmarks on reverse engineering in general. Porting radio driver from MS to Linux

Hi, I am looking to port a MSVC++ driver to Linux. The recommended approach, to convert the Makefile and compile it didn't work for me, so I am trying to compile seperate cpp.files by implementing the winapi functions I need in a seperate linuxapi.cpp There are about 30 functions I have to port at the moment, and some of them are easier than others. Basically they are part of the DLL (so), thread/event/mutex, File*Find apis, with some miscellaneous ones. I think I could do myself a favor by asking if the MSVC++ code could use libpthread instead of the MS threads, so I'm not too worried about those, and simulating DLL with the dl* api seems easy enough as well. Still, there are problems with Find*File, FindClose, GetModuleFileName and so on. I'm not too familiar with winapi myself, because I learn C/C++ in a college environment, where most programming assignments are geared towards Linux. Can anyone comment sensibly on this? If you are of the opinion that I should just rewrite the app from scratch, I agree in part, but the assignment is to leave as much of the original code as it is, apart from isolated cases where g++ can't quite follow the MSVC++ compiler. Dynamically altering drive mappings at runtime

.... and on a slightly related note, I am wondering how hard it would be to allow wine to alter drive mappings at runtime. The reason I ask is that it'd be nice for the "add drive" dialog in winecfg to use the shell directory chooser that shows all directories on the system rather than forcing the user to type in a path manually, which is error prone. To do that, of course we need a few things: * the ability to map / if it's not already mapped (or maybe we should just force / to always be mapped to drive Z in the wine code) * the ability to switch off drive letters showing through in the directory chooser dialog, so it's less confusing to see this magic letter appear. Thoughts on how hard this is? thanks -mike

Using fontconfig

Hi to anybody who knows about fonts, It'd be nice to use fontconfig in future to locate font installation paths. There is a simple API: FcStrList FcConfigGetFontDirs (FcConfig *config); which should let us use a small part of it, even if we don't use all of it. It means we don't need to make the user manually configure font paths. Does anybody know how hard this would be? thanks -mike

DGA input events dropped

For a very long time now, enabling DGA causes mouse/keyboard events to be ignored. There have been a few threads on this issue in the past, and it seems nobody is willing to actually fix this problem (even though some have submitted patches to fix it, nothing has ever made it into CVS). Why is this? Overall, the problem seems to be related to the use of separate per-thread X display handles, along with a global (separate) "GDI" display. At first I tried just making the first thread's display the "global" display, but since that didn't work, and I don't have the patience to figure out why this dichotomy exists, here's a simple patch which at least works for a few games I tried (but still has mouse problems with a few other games I've tried - there was a mouse fix on an earlier thread(1) on this subject, but it doesn't work -- perhaps it has something to do with the fact that DGA only returns relative mouse movement, and non-DGA returns absolute movement). On the other hand, you could just at least make your default behavior and sample config not enable DGA. Note that this patch is against wine-20030813, but I did check CVS first and it still applies. Also, I wasn't sure about the wine-patches message policy, so I'm just sending this to wine-devel. Hi Ed, If the code is essentially the same anyway, it might be a good idea just to add a switch in server/serial.c and to the create_serial request to tell the server whether the device is a serial port or a parallel port, then change serial/parallel behaviour depending on that switch. You can also use serial_get_info to return a flag saying that you're dealing with a parallel port if necessary. It's probably better to avoid duplication of the code unless necessary. It looks like comctl32.dll is seting up some hooks to forward messages to requested window because even if you use --dll comctl32=n the owner is set up to "GetAncestor( cs->hwndParent, GA_ROOT )" Same thing happends under Windows so it seems that everything is OK with windows/win.c I tried to figure out what is going on with hooks but I don't have much experience with windows hooks so I will appreciate any help. Hello, I am using wine for my personal interest and need your help regarding the following problem I have faced. I have following configuration, a) Red Had Linux 9.0 b) Wine (wine-20030813.tar.gz) is extracted in /ww/wine-20030813 c) It creates a directory /c for windows and /root/.wine d) All the bin files are at /usr/local/bin Wine runs fine in my machine. Now I try to complie windows project in Linux via WineLib. I have made the following things, copy all the .c, .h, .rc files from programs/winemine dir to programs/winemine2 then from winemine2 run the following commands, $ winemaker --lower-uppercase . $ ./configure --with-wine=/usr/local/wine It gives me the error, "checking for windef.h configure:error couldnot find Wine headers(windef.h) I have also copy the file from /usr/local/include/wine/windows to current directory. WIDL problems

I'm trying to get a new shell object into Wine and seeing that most of the object definition stuff has recently been moved to IDL files I wondered if I could define the object in shobjidl.idl. However I seem to get some problems compiling shobjidl.idl with with widl. I tried ./tools/widl/widl -I ./include ./include/shobjidl.idl and get an error. To be sure it wasn't caused by my editing I made sure the entire include dir is an unmodified version of the CVS tree and tried it there and I still get the error ./include/shobjidl.idl:426: Error: method index mismatch in write_proxy What is the problem here? Should I just sent in the patch to shobjidl.idl and the header file gets generated automatically with some more capable tool? By the way I noticed also that IPersistFolder3 got probably overlooked when moving the definitions to idl files. Rolf Kalbermatter

Hi, I'm interested in doing some development/help for wine and was wondering in what way I could help out? I have a college level understanding of C/C++/Java, have done some professional programming in (ack, VB), am currently in the process of learning C#, but would really like to do some development in unix/linux and I figure this is a good way to get some experience. I'm willing to do whatever needs to be done, but I do have as I'm sure most of you have, other projects/assignments/obligations which I'm sure the rest of you have also. Hi list, A guy that lives in my town found me via the linux counter, and we would like to translate the wine web site to italian, I was thinking of something like microsoft, with a drop menu of languages, where one can choose the destination language. This guy is also a really good web designer, and I could give him a hand as I'm a native english speaker and I could answer any emails we may get on an italian users mailing list, can we do this? Would a flag be better than a drop menu? any ideas/sugestions welcome.

About coding it's even harder since I do not know a lot about linux and in programming for linux for a first, the list of tasks is updated very slowly and usually not very clear to outsiders, the Janitorial list that is suppose to be the easiest is not very clear about what to do and is full of junk already done, not updated very frequently and also has stuff that the gurus here are working months on them (like dll separation) so how does a Janitorial suppose to do that? Don't get me wrong, I am not trying to say anything bad about you or the project or the rest of the wonderful people working on it, but as I see it the reason others programmers do not join it or at least I don't is becouse you do not make this task easy at all, if anyone would want to turn this around and try to pass some of this knowledge I am willing to learn and document (I am not a writer and my primary language is not English...) just to get the view point of a new programmer (ok I HAVE been watching this project for about 4 years but did not get active as a programmer). I tried another app which needs dlls and again I had the error that the file was not found, this time from wine. But the dll sure was in the fake c:\windows\system32. Just as a wild guess I made a copy of this dll and changed the case to all upper case as was the name wine told me. And miraculously the dll was found. So it seems that even while doing "Windows work" wine sometimes behaves case sensitive. FYI: Linux is Suse 8.0, wine is 20030813 (which makes me wonder as I made clean/distclean the old one, cvs up wine, configure, make depend, make, make install... and I never had a wine-rpm) bye Fabi
