Hi Marcus Do you need a little(est) test with full source code that hosts an OCX (The OCX is IE but I can change it if you need). It is written with ATL/WTL. It will work fine with: "oleaut32"="native" but will crash with "oleaut32"="builtin". I also have a winelib that crashes the same (same code), but contact me personally if you need the source for that. (I could post the .exe.so with full debug info) I would give it a shut, but it will only be months from now. It didn't look very simple, but maybe I am wrong about that. Free Life Boaz

Some compatibility issue with InternetCrackUrlA

Hi all. I've tried some applications with wine, and discovered the different behavior compare to the real winapi. 1. If there is no explicit port number in the URL, the value of lpUC->nPort will be assigned to zero in wine, but in winapi it should be the default port number of the corresponding scheme. 2. Before call InternetCrackUrlA, if the field dwExtraInfoLength of lpUrlComponents set to 0, the ExtraInfo of the URL is not parsed at all; only the dwExtraInfoLength is set to non-zero, ExtraInfo would be filled. But Wine would always do parse. (I just find it has been reported at http://bugs.winehq.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1805) Below is a rough patch for this issue, some download manager apps (ie. flashget) affected work now. This patch brakes a lot of images/icons etc. Needs more testing. In particular small icons in all browser panes. Also we still have some problems with our DIBs, Which could be easily seen with native comctl32. So I'm not sure if we should use DIBs in imagelist yet. DLL, shared library, ...

Hallo all, I would like to ask you if there is a way how to convert .dll library to the Linux .so library? This library contains simple functions (something like voice codec) "without any dependency" on the Windows operating system - it's "platform independet", but packed into the .dll. I'm trying google, wine mailing list archives and I can't find anything about this issue. Do you think it's possible to do this or should I forgot and fight for the source code? +relay stops window output?

Hi I have a problem with debugging. Since cvs update today I can't use +relay anymore. The app window comes up but doesn't show any content. It's just an empty frame with dead visuals and doesn't react. I can drag the frame and close it. But it works ok if I e.g. have +ole. Same is with other apps which worked last week. Outreach to local governments considering Linux

Well, one more local government in Germany announced they're migrating to Linux; this time it's Leonberg. (See http://www.heise.de/newsticker/meldung/44802) It's a small town, and they're only migrating 400 or so workstations, but it's a growing trend. France is starting to get into the act, too; Paris is reportedly considering migrating to Linux. Yet these towns face terrible odds. Fully half the specialized applications used by Munich don't have any Linux equivalent (source: http://www01.silicon.de/cpo/ts-csh/detail.php?nr=13043 ), and the situation is probably similar for the smaller towns. As it stands, Munich and other towns still need to run some Windows applications. Yet the idea of using Wine to do this has not percolated through to the public conciousness; the method usually cited is to use VmWare or Microsoft Terminal Server. Therefore, I suspect Wine really needs to reach out to local governments in Germany and France and let them know that the Wine community is very interested in helping them make the transition to Linux. I would like to start by creating a page at winehq.org that has information for towns considering migrating to Linux (links to feasability studies done by other cities come to mind). If nobody's opposed, I'll submit a patch to add that (though it may take a while, I'm fighting RSI again). Also, I think we need a mailing list, e.g. wine-gov(a)winehq.org, where they can post questions and/or discuss their situation. (Yes, they could use wine-users, but that's full of all sorts of topics that might not mix well with staid government workers; some of the games discussed there might even be banned in Germany...) They should be allowed to post in their native language if they feel more comfortable there; we have enough French and German speakers to be able to handle that, I think. If nobody's opposed, I'll post a separate message proposing its creation in a couple days. A few letters to companies consulting for these towns might also be in order. Here's an example letter. Any native German speakers out there, please feel free to correct my German! Once we have the web page and mailing list set up, we could send a few letters like this out. I think it'd really help. Broken pipe not detected

Hallo Eric,Mike, Alexandre (and alll others), as described in http://www.winehq.org/hypermail/wine-devel/2003/01/0486.html Altera quartus waits for some connected application by detecting a broken pipe (ReadFile() expects error, GetLastError is checked for ERROR_BROKEN_PIPE). Our present pipe implementation doesn't set this error beside for PeekNamedPipe. The application doesn't call PeekNamedPipe(). I sent some additional test for pipe to wine-patches. The last test with its todo_wine points out this behaviour. Confirmation of my findings by running the test on windows is appreciated. Modifying font objects

This is really a generic Windows progamming question, sorry... Is it possible to modify a font object's size? I want an N point version of the SYSTEM_FONT. I thought that perhaps I could get an instance of SYSTEM_FONT, and then set some attribute for the point size. That didn't seem to be possible so I thought that perhaps I could call CreateFont, using attributes from the other font object, just using my own size, but there doesn't seem to be anyway to get attributes like the char set from a font object. VMM Registry access removal and IE Setup.

The IE6 installer in Windows 98 mode appears to use VXD calls to access the registry, and hence the patch removing this support from CVS causes IE6 setup to fail. (Also IE5 setup) -- Matthew Davison

MinGW cross compilation enviroment setup

Hello! Here are the steps needed to setup a MinGW on a Red Hat Linux like rpm based system (Fedora Core, Mandrake Linux, ... should probably work even on a SuSE Linux) * Download the mingw-binutils and mingw-gcc srpm's from http://ftp.redhat.com/pub/contrib/libc6/SRPMS/ * Download the mingw-3.0-1.src.rpm srpm from http://ftp.redhat.com/pub/contrib/libc6/noarch/SRPMS/ * Build the mingw and mingw-binutils rpm's (rpmbuild --rebuild $SRPM) and install them. * After the above step you can build the mingw-gcc rpm too. Install it. * That's almost everything: you need this patch for wine's configure to make it find your mingw binaries. * For instructions how to build the Wine tests for Windows see the Wine Documentation. You may want to try your local Red Hat mirror for the above srpm's. bt in traces

Hi Is it possible to output the backtrace while the program is running? I mean that with a new debug command e.g. wine_dbg_bt or so you could output not only the name of the called function and the argument values (as with the debug channels) but also the call stack where it came from. That's of course only temporarily for debugging inside wine. If I see that a function has a problem because the argument is wrong it would be much easier to find out where this came from. If I only want to use it inside wine it should have access to the call stack information, no? Thanks bye Fabi

Linking against Wine under Linux

Hello! I'm writing on a software that supports different (GUI) drivers for different OSs. "Driver" refferes to my software (GUI library) having different plugins (by implementing a subclass of an abstract base class) for different OSs. I have an X11 plugin for doing X11 calls on X11, one for Mac OS X, one for Curses and one for Windows. I now would like to compile the Windows specific classes of my library under Linux using Wine. The Windows version does use low level 2D graphics calls (WIN32). This works fine if using f.e. Cygwin as compiler environment under Windows (rest of the software is a little bit unix centric). I now would like to use the Windows driver under Linux but I have a problem finding the correct linker call. This is more difficult, since I do not use C/C++ directly but another compiler that generates C code wich in turn gets compiled using gcc. So I cannot use winemaker, for which I found some documentation. The Windows Version links explictely against kernel32, user32 and gdi32 DLLs. If I under Linux just leave them away and link only against wine (-lwine) I got unresolved symbols during linking for the Win32 API calls. After that I tried to link against the <windowsdllname>.dll.so files I found (under /usr/libwine, using the Debian testing packages), too, since I assume that these contain the functions I use. But I cannot get the linker to find them. strace shows that it is always searching for lib<windowsdllname>.dll.so. For example it searches for libuser32.dll.so while I only have a user32.dll.so. Is it correct, that I have to link explictely against this libraries? If yes, how can I get the linker to search for the correct names? If no, how to get my stuff to link? -- Gruß... Tim.
