Yes that's true, but in Wine the QA is mostly us and the people who report the bugs to be fixed. In Wine usually when a bug is marked as fixed and not reopened shortly after, it really means that it's fixed and thus verified. What I feel is that people reporting bugs, you and me and others actually ARE Wine's QA. I don't think that having ~800 bugs marked as fixed since years was useful. Maybe now that they are closed, the new fixed bugs can actually be verified by some of the active QA people in Wine. There have been more activity lately in bugzilla and keeping all these old bugs fixed and not closed was not doing any good imho. Having about 10/15 bugs to verify between each snapshot is much more maintainable and can hopefully be done. > process. Did you get consensus before starting > these mods? 0.9 Font problem

I just tried Internet Explorer with Wine 0.9 and the fonts on the msn page don't render. I did a trace and get this for one text out operation. I vaguely remember something about installing fonts, but I would have thought there would be a fallback if no font was found. winelib app compatibility between wine versions

our winelib app was originally built/run under wine-*-20050524 and we also ran the binaries under the next versions of wine, for example under wine-20050725. But under wine-20050930 the binary failed to start with 'segmentation fault'. i also tried to run notepad.exe.so from wine-20050524 binary rpm under wine-20050930 -> it failed with the same error. Checked on Fedora 3. wine20050930 was installed from binary rpm. Has something been changed in the 'binary' sense or one just should not assume the compatibility between versions for winelib apps ? A lot of people have had this same problem in the past. Managing it is a problem but there is a solution. Establish a policy that all regression testing be done within the two latest versions. If it doesn't run now and it did a year ago consider it a different problem. This is the only solution that has worked in the past. It requires a test suite be built that can easily test Windows, not Wine, and it requires that the tests be run before the next version comes out. Versions need to come out at longer intervals with the minor updates in between. This is similar to what is happening now except that when 0.9 goes to 1.0 or 0.91 all previous versions should be discontinued. I suggest setting 0.9 as a base and fixing what is broken in it without any regression testing. Do regression testing as monthly updates come out. In six months or so bring out a 0.91 version and kill 0.9. Trying to regression test back to the original version is likely to have you trying to run 8 bit code.

World of Warcraft 1.8.1 in Wine 0.9 issues

-Sound only works when Hardware Acceleration is set to Emulated and Driver Emulation is turned on in winecfg. I have nforce2 sound, but I think this is true for everyone judging by the gentoo forums. -Sound doesn't work very well it cuts out periodically and there are constant buffer underrun errors unless you manually hack WoW's config files to specify SoundBufferSize to be 150 or lower. -With the DirectX renderer, WoW doesn't get past the login screen (after login screen goes black). This is an improvement for me over previous versions though, which would simply lock up my entire machine on launch. (output from Wine below) -With the OpenGL render, WoW doesn't get past the login screen either. But instead of going to black, the graphics just freeze in place. (output from Wine below) This maybe a regression -- in 20050725 I could get in game and walk around, but that was also before the 1.8.1 WoW patch, although the 1.8.1 patch contains only minor fixes. -When exiting the game, your previous resolution isn't restored. I don't think this is specific to WoW. Wine should store the current resolution and restore it on exit. Also, interestingly, the DirectX renderer in full screen is much faster for me than the OpenGL one. I know the game's OpenGL renderer is less developed, but on Windows the difference isn't as drastic, and seeing as that DirectX support is younger I expected it to be slower. Nvidia users might have better luck with DirectX/OpenGL than me. I know there are other players that can get in game, I'm guessing they're nvidia users. I'm running the fglrx 8.16.20 drivers on a Radeon 9700 Pro. I'll try with the new 8.18 drivers later and post if there's any difference. Output from running with OpenGL render below. Oh, and while I'm complaining about the AppDB :-).. I'm getting slightly annoyed with the <b>over hers</b> that's printed in every version of every application. What's that? Debug output? Use  if you're debugging a production system, for c...... .... ;-). (It's been there for a month or so, I think.)
