I'd like to see wine produce real PE dll files that use unix system calls as a back end. For example, a real kernel32.dll in PE format that maps at the same addresses as the windows XP version, and so on. PE executables could be seamlessly loaded with an ibcs extension and properly linked against wine's real PE system dlls. Adapting wine to that sort of architecture would make it as native as real windows, and the bulk of wine's sources wouldn't need to be edited.

New trying to debug missing menubar

There's an old Windows 3.1 app I'm trying to use under wine, but it's menubar is missing. It was used for in house development for a really old game, but the programmer has asked me not to redistribute it so I can't provide a link/download. The application otherwise looks and acts exactly as it should -- but the File/About/etc. menubar is missing and thus the ability to use any of those options (I don't think the app has any accelerators). Seeing as this is such a "simple" bug (watch me eat my words) I thought it'd be a good chance to try some wine hacking. So I read the wine developer guide and tried my best. But my unfamiliarity with the Windows API / Wine has me stuck :P I've included the results of me running with WINEDEBUG=+menu below. The only thing that sticks out to me is this: warn:menu:MENU_GetMenu invalid menu handle=(nil), ptr=(nil), magic=0 Which occurs multiple times. Looking at dlls/user/menu.c (function starts on line 101), it looks like USER_HEAP_LIN_ADDR is returning a 0 pointer which causes the warning. Someone in #winehq said USER_HEAP_LIN_ADDR is for 16<->32 bit conversion because 16bit apps use segment:offset to address memory (I'm still not totally sure how a segment differs from a memory address) while 32bit apps use flat addresses. USER_HEAP_LIN_ADDR itself looks like a very magical macro where to look based on it. strings informs me it's a Borland C++ 1991 app, if that's important. When I did a +relay all that showed up between the warn:menu's was calls to ENABLEMENUITEM. I removed -O2 from my flags while troubleshooting a problem with a different project (ffmpeg, I think), right before I went on vacation. Without it, the inline optimizations weren't occurring - just as you reckoned. I put it back and it does now compile without any issues. I don't think this should fail if size equals 0. This function is also used by StgStreamImpl_Read and it shouldn't fail if it reads 0 bytes. I'm trying to narrow down some riched20 problems so I can file bug reports about them. Thinking that perhaps winme's wordpad would be a good test program for this, I tried it out with wine-0.9.4... only to discover it crashes right after displaying its main window. Hi! I have some reminds about your product "Wine" 1. When wine changes screen resolution, it changes resolution of desktop and that move my icons and i must arrange it manually after game exit and that is the problem. Please make that resolution switching like "cedega". Cedega changes the screen resolution, but desktop dimensions are unchanged. 2. Where is the config? Implementation of "winecfg" isn't good choice. Config file was good so why you have removed it? Existence of that config file will be welcomed for many users, which wants to edit some options, which they can't edit now. 3. The "-workdir" option. When i try to run some programs or when i try to install something, sometimes wine can't find files needed by installer or installed game. Cedega uses "-workdir" parameter which sets the directory, where are that files. I couldn't install or run many games and programs because of Wine can't find that files, which are needed. (e.g. wine -workdir "/root/.wine/drive_c/warcraft III/" "C:/warcraft III/Frozen Throne.exe") Thats all what i wanted to write. U have done good work so good luck forever.

continuosly calling the function from winelib failing - stack overflow

Hi I am able to successfully convert the windows dll into .so file and I am able to call the functions exported by dll from the winelib application. But if I call those functions from winelib application continuously for 1000 times , in a loop, then wine is crashing with the following error err:seh:setup_exception stack overflow 28 bytes in thread 0025 Then I tried calling the stub function itself in the loop (commented the code in stub function such that , it wont call the dll function ) Still I am getting the same error. Can any one faced this problem ? Can any one help on the same Thank you Regards aJAY

debugging help

I'm trying to help someone on wine-bugs (http://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=4053) with a crash in a game. The problem is that the game is catching and displaying the exception. It also appears that the game won't run in winedbg. Does anyone have any ideas on how to proceed from here.
