Hi, I've done some reading on the DIB engine and I cannot determine where is the best place to integrate the code. Should it be in x11drv, gdi, or it's own DLL, or wined3d? Of course I want to do it right the first time when I start coding. =) Jesse

Re-proposal: web forums

Many projects, including large ones such as Gentoo, provide web forums for their users. The benefits are: * Users can help each other * Sometimes developers may read it and: * Be able to help users too * Learn what difficulties people are facing * Many people seem to prefer the web interface to mailing lists/newsgroups It has been brought up before and people weren't really keen, but I thought I'd bring it up again as we get a lot of value out of the forums in the autopackage project, and I can't seem to find the old 3rd party Wine forums there used to be anymore. So I'd like to propose: http://forums.winehq.org/ Running phpBB or some similar type web forum software, with official links and so on from WineHQ. Newman, what do you think, do we have server capacity to do this? Do you have time to set it up? Others, does anybody have any _serious_ objections (by which I mean other than "I don't like web interfaces" ;) thanks -mike

HTML e-mails

I'm sure that everyone of us really enjoys seeing influx of these wonderful HTML messages. People please don't send HTML e-mails to the mailing lists. Tey are a pain to read. And if some one about to say that's not their fault because they use gmail - then DON'T use gmail for this mailing list. Or configure it so it does not send HTML messages. Vitaliy

So if you have just sent a "Rich formatted"(HTML) message you have to remember change the setting back to "Plain text". Web forums - simple suggestion

Okay, so I've followed this thread, and I have a range of thoughts and what I think is a simple solution. First of all, if disk space is an issue, it's easily corrected with a $100 IDE drive. I think the real issue is that Jer doesn't like to work on half baked ideas unless they're more fully baked or someone else he trusts is cooking in the kitchen :-/. Second of all, it seems to me that the biggest problem is simply one of presentation. This is the relevant page: http://www.winehq.org/site/forums The current information is really quite poorly presented. There is way too much information; the useful bits (the Gmane and Google links) are buried way to deep imho. Third, I think the biggest problem is that there are 2 places to go for help. The wine-users mailing list, and the legacy usenet newsgroup. For a while, the two were connected, until the old gateway we were using broke down, and Jer ripped his hair out trying to make it work. But time has passed, and now Mailman has a builtin news <--> mail gateway system, and maybe we can reconnect them. (I'll go discuss this with Jer; if I'm not heard from ever again, it's because he beat me to a pulp with his printout of the Mailman manuals <grin>). But if we can reconnect them, then I think a nice solution would be to retool that page so the Google interface pops out: http://groups.google.com/group/comp.emulators.ms-windows.wine That looks forumishy enough to me to satisfy many people, and yet is nicely backwards compatible with all current systems. Bug when using FlashFXP still exists

FlashFXP (and other programs might as well) crash when trying to list. There was a patch submitted but that patch doesn't work unfortunately. NetUserGetInfo and unsupported levels

Hi, Is there any particular reason why NetUserGetInfo returns success if it's called with a valid but unsupported value for level? This seems to cause problems for at least MSYS (part of MinGW), as it assumes this means that *bufptr has been set to something valid, when in fact the function call hasn't done this, or indeed anything much. Hi I've tried to sum up the problems with the wine-users mailing list that are urging many people to call for a forum.winehq.org. I hope it's useful. Problems ======== 1) Cannot post without configured mail client 2) Browsing old topics and replying/posting new ones happen in two different places (web archive vs. mail client) 3) Current archive web interface unwieldy (many clicks needed to browse, always sorted by month) 4) Missing Googlish search function 5) "Subscribe" wording and web pages suggest your inbox will fill up when doing so 6) Subscribing will cause your inbox to fill up; it's not obvious how to change it; neither how to receive mail on specific topics you DO want once you've changed it 7) Missing "forward all postings re this topic to my inbox" feature 8) Very difficult to post under pseudonym 9) Missing 'sticky' feature (?) Solution 1: A forum, fx. phpBB =============================== Pros: ) Easy to set up. We might even be able to sneak it in before AJ returns :-). (Sorry big guy, couldn't resist pulling one on your expense =)..) ) Might attract away from wine-users a high quantity of dumb questions that people ask when they can't be bothered to search the archives. ) Adds a structural approach by categorizing users' various problems, which encourages searching instead of asking. The Wine-users etc. archives, on the other hand, I find totally impenetrable and impossible to find relevant posts from the past in any reasonable amount of time. I'm not knocking those who designed it, I'm sure that, to them, it's totally transparent and the easiest system in the world to use - I know, I've designed Grud alone knows how many forms, all of which have made perfect sense to me, but many of which have extracted the response 'Eh?!' from the intended users and I feel this is probably the same kind of situation :-) Fora (posh, eh ;-> ) and email lists each have their pros and cons and those who like one tend to dislike the other. I feel this is a debate which is never going to reach a conclusion which will satisfy everyone (emacs or vi? Mac or PC? I assume that this is likely to need replacing with a GL_SUPPORT(ARB_FRAGMENT_SHADER) as per line 1691 for pixel shaders > 1.4 There is probably a good reason for this line and I don't want to jump the gun and mess with anyone's plans by submitting patches yet. Are there definite plans to use this extension here? If so, is there any documentation for it because I certainly can't find any... Regards, Phil Costin
