Hi Folks, We've now reconnected the newgroup comp.emulators.ms-windows.wine to the wine-users mailing list, so they are, in theory, one 'virtual' community. We also revamped the web site a bit to try to make these things pop out a bit more. Please see this page in particular: http://www.winehq.org/site/getting_help Hopefully this will help people find a way to search for help and connect to the wine-users community a bit more easily, and ease some of the current pain around the lack of a forum. SambaXP update

Hi folks, As SerNet and the Samba team has invited me to SambaXP, I thought I'd give a short update on what happened here so far that is interesting for Wine. The talks today were only mildly interesting from the Wine point of view, but that chatting with the Samba folks in the breaks was really productive. I've talked to Steve French about exposing named pipes as file descriptors or fifos and he thinks that should be doable. I have to admit I'm not totally sure what those beasts are needed for, but Juan asked me to bug Steve about. I guess his talk about using CIFS on linux will be interesting, too. On the SSPI/GENSEC side, I've talked to Andrew Bartlett and Jelmer Vernooij about isolating GENSEC from the Samba code a bit more so it's useable without pulling in too much of the other Samba code (which is also GPL and not useable). They don't seem too happy about releasing GENSEC under the LGPL either, but seem to prefer that to other, less elegant solutions like a wrapper library or a stdio interface. On the bright side, I managed to get Wine code to compile with GENSEC using some quick hacks. That brings me a bit closer to a proof of concept implementation the Samba people want to see. The schedule for tomorrow will see more technical talks, and I'll continue to hack on wine-gensec a bit, and of course I'll try to give another report from the conference. Getting wrc to handle long long

(Further to my previous patch) I have little real experience with handling multiple platforms so I have no idea how this needs to be fixed. Can anyone make some suggestions. Currently the decision as to whether wrc will handle long long constants depends upon #if defined (SIZEOF_LONGLONG) && SIZEOF_LONGLONG >= 8 So where is this SIZEOF_LONGLONG supposed to come from? I presumed it was either a standard definition or a Microsoft one but I guess not; The APR uses one but that seems to be it. So I suggest maybe we should simply use #if defined (LLONG_MAX) which is at least part of C99 But then how to get LLONG_MAX set when compiling up wpp. I managed to hack it by adding std=gnu99 to the CFLAGS in the makefile but that is hardly portable. Can someone give a better suggestion? DIB Engine Question

Hi, I've done some reading on the DIB engine and I cannot determine where is the best place to integrate the code. Should it be in x11drv, gdi, or it's own DLL, or wined3d? Of course I want to do it right the first time when I start coding. =) Jesse

Re-proposal: web forums

Many projects, including large ones such as Gentoo, provide web forums for their users. The benefits are: * Users can help each other * Sometimes developers may read it and: * Be able to help users too * Learn what difficulties people are facing * Many people seem to prefer the web interface to mailing lists/newsgroups It has been brought up before and people weren't really keen, but I thought I'd bring it up again as we get a lot of value out of the forums in the autopackage project, and I can't seem to find the old 3rd party Wine forums there used to be anymore. So I'd like to propose: http://forums.winehq.org/ Running phpBB or some similar type web forum software, with official links and so on from WineHQ. Newman, what do you think, do we have server capacity to do this? Do you have time to set it up? Others, does anybody have any _serious_ objections (by which I mean other than "I don't like web interfaces" ;) thanks -mike

HTML e-mails

I'm sure that everyone of us really enjoys seeing influx of these wonderful HTML messages. People please don't send HTML e-mails to the mailing lists. Tey are a pain to read. And if some one about to say that's not their fault because they use gmail - then DON'T use gmail for this mailing list. Or configure it so it does not send HTML messages. Vitaliy

And note that if your computer is properly configured, a simple one-click on the nntp link on that page will give your nntp client all the informations needed to access the newsgroup. Regards.
