search path redux - if office 2007 always uses a private riched20, why does wine interpose its own global one?

See http://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=14980 Essentially, to run Office 2007, you have to set an override for riched20. Since Office installs a new, spiffier version of riched20 in its own private directory, and expects to find it there, isn't it a bug that we don't let it have it? Sounds like it's time to write a conformance test... sure would be nice if that override wasn't needed.

SCSITaskDevice vs our own driver

Hi, Eventually, I want to implement IOCTL_SCSI_PASS_THOROUGH on Mac OS. The way I see it, there are two ways to do this: 1. Use the SCSITaskDevice interface. This is a CFPlugIn object provided by the driver (it's like a COM object). We have to get exclusive access (this requires all the handles to all device files to be closed, and the disk unmounted), and then we can send whatever SCSI commands we like. Pros: No kernel code. Somewhat familiar paradigm to Windows programmers. Cons: Complicated usage. Needs every handle to device files closed. 2. Write an I/O Kit driver that exports the functionality we want. This way, we can get whatever we want that isn't exported to userspace by the current drivers. We could add this funcionality as a set of system IOCTLs. Pros: Familiar paradigm to UNIX programmers. Fits in with the current FD-based code. We can implement other stuff, too (like drive locking). Cons: Kernel mode C++. Need I say more? So each method has its pros and cons. I'd like to hear which one you guys prefer. If you don't know, that's OK. I personally don't like either of them, so if you have an alternative, I'll be glad to hear it... unless I have to tear it down as unfeasible. My current patch does it the first way (except for closing the server-side FD, which isn't implemented), but I'd really like some input before I proceed with it. Thanks. Chip

Question -- Did Friday's git cause anyone sound problems on re-boot?

I built and installed Friday's git, installed DNS and ran it without a problem, then re-booted and my sound had vanished. It does not appear to be a problem with my sound modules loading, or a conflict with pulseaudio (which I kill anyway). Alsamixer settings have been adjusted to the proper level. If anyone had a similar experience with Friday's git, and it's not just me, I'll investigate further. However, I suspect it's not a wine problem. Susan

I'd expect it to be the same, which proves that get_hres is not the right place to reformat URL. Also I think that what you can see is a result of using IUri interface for storing URL. Then the right way of fixing it would be to use it in our implementation (it was introduced in IE7 and our loading code is mostly compatible with IE6 ATM). This doesn't look right. Try with ControlSpy and you'll see WM_SETFOCUS sent just after LButton pressed on client area (not on item, that's important). LButtonUp event used to set focus item was under mouse pointer and it's released without any mouse movements (or maybe drag threshold doesn't count).

Hi! I'm making a new try to run Betamax group VoIP programs, like FreeCall, Nonoh etc. Nonoh has an outdated entry in AppDB, so I tried to make a new run with current wine (today's git, post-1.1.31). Freecall is not in AppDB at all. I tried both of them, with totally identical behaviour. The installation is smooth. The programs can run, but they can't logon to the provider, thus most of their functionality is unavailable. A further playing with menus etc. obviously makes them crash. I actually don't need to call with the programs, I have asterisk for calling, but I need to be able to setup my account, which is possible ONLY from these clients (no chance to do it from their web). Because the AppDB entry for Nonoh is now unmaintained, I'm eventually ready to become a maintainer. Are there any special requirements needed to do such a job ? With regards, Pavel Troller
