IMM / IME work

Hello all, I know this will only interest a small portion of you but thought i would give a quick update on the state of IMM32 since I have brought it to a major milestone. All the main patches are in which now separate IMM32 and IMEs. There is still more work to do but the major framework is in place. X11 XIM processing should be unchanged. However wine can now begin to load native windows IMEs as well. I have tested with windows ATOK20 (a popular Japanese IME) and successfully had text processing in a fully IME aware application. There are still clear issues to resolve in many aspects of this processing but we have forward progress. ImmInstallIME does not work yet, nor does switching keyboards. So to get the native IME to work you need to add this registry key. [System\\CurrentControlSet\\Control\\Keyboard Layouts\\<keyboard layout>] "Ime File"=<IME filename> so for example for ATOK20 in Japanese i used. [System\\CurrentControlSet\\Control\\Keyboard Layouts\\e0010411] "Ime File"="ATOK20W.IME" I would love to hear how well things work. I am sure using native IMEs will quickly show us many places where IMM32 needs to be improved. One issues I am going to investigate next is that sometimes non x11drv ime initialization, if occurring too early, causes x11drv to fail to create windows. What happened to the Fedora packages?

What happened to the Fedora packages? They have not been updated since 0.9.2!!!! Right now it is at 0.9.10!!! Nearly every other Linux distro supported has the up to date packages!!! And why does the Red Hat packages site not go to the SourceForge site as it does for SUSE packages and the others?? I have not really had the guts to ask until now, because I thought that maybe there was a slump, but now, its getting annoying!! And Fedora just released Fedora Core 5 yesterday!!! Please tell me new packages will be ready soon!!! Compiling WINE always crashes my computer, so I prefer to use the RPMs...

Does "mac" mean "powerpc mac only"? I rather thought it meant "apple macintosh", regardless of cpu. I ask because Austin has just gone through and changed lots of "mac" bugs to "pc" even though the bugs were on Intel macs, which just seems wrong.

Since Office installs a new, spiffier version of riched20 in its own private directory, and expects to find it there, isn't it a bug that we don't let it have it? Sounds like it's time to write a conformance test... sure would be nice if that override wasn't needed.

winequartz.drv Mac OS X UI discontinued?

Hi, I know that CodeWeavers supports quite nicely Mac builds of Wine, and CrossOver for Mac, yet all of them are X11. There was also once Darwine - an effort to provide Carbon Wine UI driver and Mac optimizations & L&F. Pretty many of those were merged back to Wine, but not winequartz.drv. Do you guys think about reviving winequartz.drv? This would greatly improve Wine on Mac as we could have native Mac fonts handling that's faster than FreeType, Dock icons for Wine applications, and few others. There's still old copy of the it hanging around, but it is abandoned, and no longer compiles with Wine. Or I think it would be cool to write new winecocoa.drv or sthing like that, as Apple officially states that Carbon is deprecated. Wine translation statistics sources

Hi, I didn't update the translation statistics (http://www.mikolaj.zalewski.pl/wine-transl/) very regularly lately - my server is a bit broken and I can't run the scripts from cron but have remember to do it manually from a different computer. I have plans to fix it, but in the mean time, as some people may want fresh data, I have finished the changes I've been working on and uploaded the sources. It should be very easy to run them on ones machine and check the tree one has on disk - there is a README with explanations. The archive is available at http://www.mikolaj.zalewski.pl/dl/wine-transl.tgz . It is the latest version that adds support for dumping/diffing dialogs. Mikolaj Zalewski

That's a nice, simple design, but something's missing. Oddly, the original drunken penguin shirts, or ripoffs thereof, seem to still be available at http://www.ixsoft.de/software/products/CWTSHIRTDP-L.html Original artwork is at ftp://wine.codeweavers.com/pub/wine/logos/ I would kind of like a shirt that had the penguin opening the bottle on the front (text: Support the Wine Project), and the drunken penguin on the back (text: I did my part, or something like that) but I'd have to think a bit more on the text. Dear Developpers of Wine I like wine and I like Tracker Software's PDFXChange-Viewer as well. http://www.docu-track.com/home/prod_user/PDF-XChange_Tools/pdfx_viewer So, today I was not getting any rest until i found out why these two won't work together nicely. I mean they DO, actually. But I'm kind of touchy. I was wondering all the time, why most of the settings I changed were not restored as I exited and restarted the app. I then discovered that if wineserver was preserved ("-p" option) beween restarts they WERE restored. Further investigations unveiled that the problem is triggered by the fact that wineserver is not storing the registry key class name attributes. Something M$ must have come up with in XP but that is not very wideley used. PDFXChange-Viewer however seems to rely on it when parsing it's preferences from the registry on startup. Wineservers unicode string handling gave me a though time in implementing a solution to this but i finally managed. You can see that I went quiet straightforward: adding the class name next to the key name in the {system,user}.reg files. There are two different versions of the fix. I would prefer the second one because it preserves backwards compatibility: In case the key class attribute is set, it is put in brackets between the key name and modification time. Otherwise nothing changes. It would be really nice if this could be somehow integrated into wine. (Not only because I worked on it for a whole day, but also because i really miss the feature because i don't want to reconfigure PDFXChange-Viewer every time i start it and also because I would like to make that functionality available to all of my friends and all linux users as well. appdb issue: can't search for apps platinum on 1.0.x!

Our currently released version is 1.0, but the appdb's browse feature acts as if that version no longer exists. This will seriously confuse newcomers who are using the 1.0.1 version (e.g. anybody who installs a fresh copy of Ubuntu!). To fix this, we should add 1.0 (or 1.0.1) back into the search box in http://appdb.winehq.org/objectManager.php?sClass=application

I went to the trouble of buying a copy of WordPerfect Office 2002 a while ago, and just tried installing it again - but I seem to have lost disc 1. Anyone have a copy they're not using anymore? I have disc 2 and a serial number, just no disc 1 :-(

I'm trying to use WKO, it is software which communicates via USB to an external device (watch/heart rate monitor/bike odometer) using FTDI drivers. When I plug in the device dmesg tells me it's recognized and placed on /dev/ttyUSB0. I've put a link to that inside of .wine/dosdevices/com1. I still can't get communication to work, on stdout I get the following message repeated many times: fixme:comm:wait_on EV_RXFLAG not handled I think I know how to implement this feature of Win32 serial comm, but before I attempted I wanted to broadcast my intent to do so. Wine64 and other test failures

Howdy, For those of y'all not monitoring http://test.winehq.org/data, I've begun submitting daily test results for Wine64. There are also test results for regular 32-bit wine, wine in a virtual desktop, and with WINEDEBUG=+heap. Regular wine is passing a majority of the time (Ubuntu Jaunty 64-bit, Nvidia 9800 GTX). Wine shirt

I saw the previous Wine t-shirt, with the drunken penguin, but it wasn't really me and I don't think there are anymore anyways. For those of you who didn't know about it, I don't think it was advertised very well (maybe we should have had a products tab or links in World Wine News more regularly). I started playing with zazzle.com and ideas for a Wine shirt for myself. Here's what I have so far in case anyone cares or would like one too: http://www.zazzle.com/tuxg2_wine_t_shirt-235593182956669764 I plan on giving half of any profits to Wine through their donation page & use the rest to set up some Wine embroidery items (I'm thinking a hat & zip-up sweatshirt). CUDA Wrapper and unimplemented functions kernel32

A while back you guys had helped with developing the CUDA wrapper. Some changes in the folding at home GPU2 client core, has caused us the need to update it with newer functions implemented. Malware on Wine review

http://www.avertlabs.com/research/blog/index.php/2009/02/23/running-windows… is an interesting report; all the malware he tried ran to at least some extent on wine. One interesting bit of advice he gives at the end is "Do not set the file association for Windows executables with Wine. This would enable running Windows executables in Wine by simply double clicking them." I saw a patch floating by to turn this on by default recently. Maybe we should make it off by default, but easy to turn on...?

Cursor patches

Attached are some cursor patches I have been working on. These patches store the cursor in the wineserver, clean up user32 a little bit, draw .ani cursors more completely, and ultimately implement themed cursors. I am sending them here for some last review (big thanks to Henri for taking some time to give me some tips where I can improve my code) before wine-patches. Even though I have tested these patches best I can, more testing can never hurt, so I would appreciate any replies from people who want to test the patches. I would like to most hear from AJ about the first few patches and if I am moving cursors into the wineserver correctly or not. -- Andrew Riedi

Hello Dylan, please do not add the English strings for stringtable resources that aren't broken (here the Hungarian translation). It makes it hard to automatically detect (http://www.mikolaj.zalewski.pl/wine-transl/) if the resource is translated or not. Also you have fixed only the traditional Chinese stringtable but not the simplified Chinese one in the same Zh.rc file. The best way to check for translation errors is to pass --verify-translation to the wrc command invoked from the Makefile and look for ERR and DIFF lines. Simple but awesome demos of Wine?

I'm going to be giving a Wine presentation at Cebit next month. You can see a draft of the presentation at http://kegel.com/wine/cebit2009/talk.html (I will say lots more than is written there; the slides are kept simple on purpose, with just the key idea in the caption.) A large part of the presentation will be demos of platium-rated apps. Can people suggest compelling apps to demo? Right now my list is kind of boring-sounding: Framemaker 7 Kid Pix gp-Untis Photoshop cs2 Futuretax Dreamweaver It'd be nice to also have some games, but I don't play enough to know which ones to pick. I suspect online games are out, since I can't count on an internet connection. I'm tempted to write an autohotkey script to demo each app so I don't have to worry about fumbling mouse clicks while on stage. The ability to script would be a nice demo itself. This show is a big opportunity for us to introduce Wine to a large audience, so any help here would be appreciated.
