Hi, s I've seen that this patch was marked as pending. I'm not sure what should I change in it. The argv[0] argument is not used in child process so maybe it will be clearer if I put some dummy value there. I can also change the tests to not use _spawnvp. There's following comment near _spawnvp implementation: Like on Windows, this function does not handle arguments with spaces or double-quotes. Here are some results that shows what happens on windows when the tests are executed without this patch. The behavior on wine is similar. Hi, After getting some very positive feedback at FOSDEM2014 i decided (even with lack of time) to get WWN started again. I'm still a developer, so my time is limited, therefor it would be nice if we could crowdsource this as far as possible. So it would be nice if everyone could have a look at: http://wiki.winehq.org/RecentNewsQueue and update it again. I know this worked last time, but we had no WWN for it. Hello guys, to follow up to Jeremy's email on doing more Wine "evangelism" the idea quickly came up to do something for LinuxTag which happens from 8th to 10th May in Berlin / Germany http://www.linuxtag.org/2014/en/ . Talks: ------ The deadline for proposals is the 7th February. - I will submit a talk proposal: "Is Wine Still Relevant?" with a a subtitle along the lines of "A Wine status update focusing on current use cases and new exciting developments". Needs more buzzwords, I know ;) - Marcus had other ideas for talks, of course somebody would need to hold them. <_Marcus_> and a Playing Windows games with Wine could be seperate if necessary /& wanted... would surely also be interesting <_Marcus_> and Wine on Android , which I was surprised to have it fill the room ;) <_Marcus_> and a pipelight talk ... that would surely pull folks. - We're open to other talk proposals. Profiling CS:GO

Hey list I'm trying to find out why CS:GO is slower under wine then windows. When running a benchmark in CS:GO Win8 gets ~134fps and wine ~51fps. I've been following Stefan Dösingers guide ( http://wiki.winehq.org/Performance) and have compiled wined3d for windows and tryed running CS:GO using wined3d under win8 but it just crashes while loading the map. At a guess I'd say once it trys to do 3D rendering. Which brings me to my first question. How do you debug and profile wined3d when using windows? Because when every I tried to run a debugger or attach one under windows or using winedbg the game just crashes when booting. Anti-debug techniques maybe? The second being that when using perf under linux it doens't seem to really be a wined3d problem after all the effort of testing it. Attached is the perf output where is shows most of it's time is spent in the actual csgo.exe code. CS:GO under linux seems to have a lot less cpu utilisation under wine. Win8 65-78% utilisation wine 48-51% utilisation of the cpu. Where should I look next for what's causing the problem? Also I'm really new to wine development. I'm still a uni student. Temporary Directories

I’m wondering if Wine has some way of marking temporary directories and/or files as such. I’m mainly asking because OS X has APIs to mark directories (and maybe files) excluded from backup from their Time Machine software. And temporary directories are often modified a lot, making backups of them taking awhile to complete.

Wine fiscal governance, Conservancy role, new initiatives

Hey Folks, At FOSDEM, Alexandre, Michael and I sat down and talked with Bradley Kuhn from the Software Freedom Conservancy about the Wine Project. For those who are not aware, the SFC is the umbrella organization that holds Wine's money and it's trademarks. They also help us if we have legal questions, or just odd this and thats that are helpful to a project like ours. They (and Bradley in particular) have been quite helpful through the years. Again for the record, spending decisions are controlled by a committee of 5, and we require a majority vote of a quorum for any spending. The quorum for any given decision cannot itself have a majority from any one company. The current committee is myself, Alexandre, Michael Stefaniuc, Marcus, and Austin English. The committee is self replacing, so if one steps down, the remaining members nominate a replacement. The SFC will recognize a 'revolution'; if the committee is clearly out of step with a majority of Wine contributors, it will force a change. In practice, the committee mostly decides who to fund for travel to the annual Wine conference. We have in the past agreed to provide SFC with 10% of our income to help them provide the support and staffing. We are still working on revising the formal paperwork to back this, and will likely be presenting that formal paperwork sometime this year (hopefully :-/). Bradley proposed one new idea that I think is worth while: sponsoring Wine evangelism. That is, sponsoring travel to various shows to present talks on Wine, or to man a table to talk up Wine. That seems like a good idea, and we will likely pursue it. If anyone is excited about the idea of being a Wine 'evangelism coordinator', drop me a line. Official retirement of 'old' wine test bot, celebration of the work of Gé van Geldorp

Folks, Arno van Geldorp has let us know that this will be the last month that the original test bot continues to run. We will be redirecting the 'testbot' urls to the new wine test bot as a result. These intervening years have made clear just how great Gé's gift to us was. It has taken us multiple people many years to begin to replicate his work. But I think we'll be okay; Francois has done a lot of hard work, and once Huw is a qemu expert, I think we will come out of the woods. We also owe a great deal to the van Geldorp family for so graciously paying to host the old wine testbot, long after the time that Gé had asked for. That, too, was a very generous gift. [PATCH v7 0/7] Add O_DENY* support for VFS and CIFS/NFS

This patchset adds support of O_DENY* flags for Linux fs layer. These flags can be used by any application that needs share reservations to organize a file access. VFS already has some sort of this capability - now it's done through flock/LOCK_MAND mechanis, but that approach is non-atomic. This patchset build new capabilities on top of the existing one but doesn't bring any changes into the flock call semantic. These flags can be used by NFS (built-in-kernel) and CIFS (Samba) servers and Wine applications through VFS (for local filesystems) or CIFS/NFS modules. This will help when e.g. Samba and NFS server share the same directory for Windows and Linux users or Wine applications use Samba/NFS share to access the same data from different clients. According to the previous discussions the most problematic question is how to prevent situations like DoS attacks where e.g /lib/liba.so file can be open with DENYREAD, or smth like this. That's why extra mount option 'sharelock' is added for switching on/off O_DENY* flags processing. It allows to avoid use of these flags on critical places (like /, /lib) and turn them on if we really want it proccessed that way. So, we have 3 new flags: O_DENYREAD - to prevent other opens with read access, O_DENYWRITE - to prevent other opens with write access, O_DENYDELETE - to prevent delete operations The patchset avoids data races problem on newely created files: open with O_CREAT can return the -ESHAREDENIED error for a successfully created file if this files was locked with a sharelock by another task. Also, it turns flock/LOCK_MAND capability off for mounts with 'sharelock' option. This lets not mix one share reservation approach with another. Patches #1, #2 and #3 add O_DENY* flags to fcntl and implement VFS part. A patch #4 is related to CIFS client changes, #5 -- NFSD, #6 and #7 describe NFSv4 client parts. The preliminary patch for Samba that replaces the existing use of flock/LOCK_MAND mechanism with O_DENY* flags: http://git.etersoft.ru/people/piastry/packages/?p=samba.git;a=commitdiff;h=… The future part of open man page patch: ----- O_DENYREAD, O_DENYWRIYE, O_DENYDELETE - used to inforce a mandatory share reservation scheme of the file access. If these flag is passed, the open fails with -ESHAREDENIED in following cases: 1) if O_DENYREAD flag is specified and there is another open with READ access to the file; 2) if O_DENYWRITE flag is specified and there is another open with WRITE access to the file; 3) if READ access is requested and there is another open with O_DENYREAD flags; 4) if WRITE access is requested and there is another open with O_DENYWRITE flags. If O_DENYDELETE flag is specified and the open succeded, any further unlink operation will fail with -ESHAREDENIED untill this open is closed. Now this flag is processed by VFS and CIFS filesystem. NFS returns -EINVAL for opens with this flag. This mechanism is done through flocks. If O_DENY* flags are specified, flock syscall is processed after the open. Hi Alistair, A while ago I promised to have a closer look at your dpnet patches. It’s a bit delayed, but here are some comments. How serious are you about dplay?
