Problem with Soundblaster Live and Wine

Hi, I have a problem with my Soundblaster Live and Wine. When running Windows Applications, they often set the mixer level for the PCM channel to 100%. However, the Soundblaster Live under Linux tends to sound a bit dirty at these levels, you have to use values under 80%. Is there anything I can do to tell wine to let this value unchanged? I am using ALSA and the OSS module of wine. Is anyone even aware of this problem? Thanks, Tony.

The cheapest flights from North America are generally into London, Paris, Amsterdam, or Frankfurt. Sometimes Madrid and Rome are reasonable too. Cyprus also adds a fair amount of travel time. Don't get me wrong - Cyprus would be a cool destination and I would love to travel there. It's also wonderful someone is will to try to organize a location other than North America. However, I'm willing to bet a Cyprus location will be such an inconvenient place to get to that we'd keep a lot of people away.

I have to admit they are a big improvement but they seem to have been scaled badly at some point - the new icons seem rather fuzzy? Also you'll note that Crystal uses totally different icons for small sizes, maybe we should be using these as they are used in the filepicker.

winegcc and winemaker- a few minor bugs

Hola, I noticed two minor bugs when porting some sample DirectX code. 1. MSVC and Borland both allow for WINAPI WinMain(HINSTANCE hInstance, HINSTANCE, LPSTR, int) where under winegcc you will get the following error: "winmain.cpp:187: error: ISO C++ forbids declaration of `WinMain' with no type". If you change it to: int APIENTRY WINAPI WinMain(HINSTANCE hInstance, HINSTANCE, LPSTR, int) Then it will compile fine. So should we work around the incorrectness of code allowed for by other compilers? Or document the changes that you will run in to porting C++ from other compilers? 2. Winemaker does not import all of the import libs from the MS_VC makefile. When building my projects it does not link to ddraw even though the MS_VC makefile has ddraw.lib in it. So I will get the following warning on linking: winmain.o(.text+0xd5): In function `DoModeEnumeration(HWND__*)': : warning: undefined reference to `DirectDrawCreateEx' It needs to be a error rather than a warrning. When you try and run the program of course you get the following: [steven(a)steven enummode]# wine enummode.exe.so wine: could not load L"Z:\\mnt\\src\\tmp\\MSVC\\Chapters 11-15 (DirectDraw_ requires DirectX 7 or 8)\\enummode\\enummode.exe.so": /steven/.wine/dosdevices/z:/mnt/src/tmp/MSVC/Chapters 11-15 (DirectDraw_ requires DirectX 7 or 8)/enummode/enummode.exe.so: undefined symbol: DirectDrawCreateEx So of course adding ddraw to the imports in the Makefile fixes it. Other then these two bugs, (one of which is the other compilers fault for allowing bad code) I have had no problems with anything I have thrown at winemaker and winegcc. Nice work Dimi and Francois! Game Testing Update - 20040615

Here a continuation of my game testing efforts. Same rules still apply in my efforts: All games tested are freely available as demos or F/OSS games on the Internet and they don't work right. Since my last report: - No bugs have closed - 2 more bugs filed - - #2299: Static in Dominions II Demo Audio - - #2300: Galactic Civilizations demo dies with unhandled exception - Finally started testing Galactic Civilizations Galactic Civilization Summary ----------------------------- Galactic Civilization is a bit grumpy and requires both a DCOM9x and an IE install to work correctly. It installed, but died with an unhandled exception when the game was started. Donations - RFC

Hi Everyone, Say, I've gotten in a few fairly generous donations lately, and so the Wine fund has a bit of money (around $800, afair). Now, the bulk of that is marked for embezzlement <g>, but it does leave a bit left over that could go to help Wine. The question is: how could that money be spent effectively? I have several thoughts on this, but would like to open it up for discussion. My suggestions are: * Buy software for proven Wine hackers If Wine hackers are lacking for licensed software, I could buy + ship it to them. My financially prudent side suggests that games would be a great way to do that, because we can buy a lot of games for $800, and only 1 copy of MS Office for the same price... :-/ The trouble with this idea is that the few times I've tried to offer software to Lionel and others they tell me that they have all they need. * Sponsor Wineconf 2005 We spent about $1500 of the Wine fund sponsoring some folks to travel to Wineconf this year. We could similarly use the funds for the next Wineconf. That suggests saving it for this purpose would be prudent. Thoughts? Suggestions? Comments? Cheers, Jeremy
