Good day!

Should we maybe install it somewhere in --prefix so it has a chance to
get included in binary packages?  I have one in /usr/local, but it is
from April 19, 2001 and not much use...

Just my .02,

Every application I install in my "main" fake_windows tree
I keep a copy of its registry in c:\windows\registry.dif\

This way the registry that the application changed after its 
install can be reincluded to the main registry (by root) or
in the user specific registry with regedit.
