The lack of any decent copy protection on Linux *is* a problem. There is Shiva but it's quite old and has a crack available for it. The problem is, I don't think there is quite enough demand to spur a commercial development of one (and I fail to see how to make an open source copy protection system without hardware support). As to whether he can use exeCryptor on a native Linux app, no, I'm afraid that's not possible. It might work in Wine but then you'd have to run the Windows version of this app. thanks -mike

I'm wondering how effective the program can be within WINE. It supposedly detects and resists attempts to debug encrypted applications to break the code, but can it do so with WINE's virtualized environment? Wouldn't WINE (or other virtual OS apps like VMWare) make a great cracking tool for this?

Actually they generally work pretty well (assuming they run correctly). It's quite hard to figure out what they're doing even when run within Wine. thanks -mike
