GDI renderer

Hello,
I have found a discussion about the build of a new wine GDI renderer
with SDL.

I would like to know the actual status of it, and how to configure wine
to use it in place of the X11 drv?

(I already have the 01-sdldrv.tgz)

Out of curiosity, why would you use this SDL driver instead of the X11
driver ?
