Under circumstances that I couldn't determine (but I suspect are related to
Beryl, since both systems where this happened use it), when displaying radmin
2.1 splash screen, the image becomes black.
I can't be 100% sure this isn't beryl's fault, but it turns out older wine
doesn't have this problem. The regression is introduced by commit
c04cbbfeae627cc20b55972df12f5dcc437ab10e on 20070304.

Ah, it seems that backslash is mandatory here (wine 'c:\Program Files\War of the
Ring Demo\Rings_Demo.exe').
Windows XP is passing full path as command-line when Rings_Demo.exe is opened
from explorer GUI. Shouldn't wine do the same for invocations that supply
absolute path? (and for invocations whose win32 path is fully contained in their
relative path, but I suppose that'd be more tricky).

Summary: Splash dialog hides error dialog, Eudora v4.2 & 5.1
Product: Wine
Version: 0.9.32.
Platform: PC
OS/Version: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: normal
Priority: P2
Component: wine-misc
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: davem(a)mich.com
When Eudora is starting, it displays a splash dialog with the logo, version etc.
If there is an error, the error dialog is hidden behind the splash and can not
be seen. Makes it look like Eudora crashed but actually it is waiting for a user
response to the hidden dialog. Sometime the error dialog is large enough that
you can catch the edge and pull it out from behind the splash.
To simulate an error, make a filter that moves mail to a new mailbox. Close
Eudora and delete the new mailbox files (.mbx and .toc files). Restart Eudora
and, while starting, it will display a warning that the filter points to a
non-existant mailbox. The warning will be hidden behind the splash screen.
I found this with wine v0.9.9 and v0.9.32 on Ubuntu v6.06

Other users have mentioned before that the game will still trash the MBR even
with a NoCD patch, so that is not the viable option. The viable option is to
NOT have your user be in the disk group and DEFINITELY NOT run as root. If you
must have you user in the disk group, then setup a chroot environment for wine
so that it cant access /dev/hda.
I am closing this bug as a duplicate of the other bug that reported this one prior.

I was not able to reproduce the error. The status messages you see on the top
are queued up, so this may have been caused by the form being sent twice,
perhaps because you reloaded the page?
It should of course not allow duplicate monitors, so I have sent a patch to
fix that.
I have also asked a person with access to the database to remove duplicate
monitors.
Are you intereded in working with the AppDB code? In the 'tables'
subdirectory you will find a script 'create_tables' which creates all the
necessary tables for you.

AFAICT, this is more a development with more recent versions of Weatherscope,
and not a regression with recent Wine. If it is a regression with Wine, it'd be
an old one, b/c I've been dealing with this for a _long_ time (1+ years), and
only recently got around to filing a bug.

I can use a regular DB9 cable connecting to the serial ports.
>From what I've researched, this "fixme" is normal when communicating at most
times too. From rumor, and from my point of view after using debug=1 with the
mct_u232 driver, the USB to Serial device is sending and recieving ok, but
somewhere there's a "-2" still returning to the Windows application, or the
application is assuming a "-2" return.

Current patch work
Here's a patch which should apply against a fresh git checkout. After applying,
make sure to run make from the base wine dir, then after reinstalling, run
wineprefixcreate to have quartz re-registered (otherwise the new filter won't
be seen).
As mentioned, this will probably cause crashes if you're not using OSS with
full acceleration, although you can modify dsoundrenderer.c to use a 16KB
buffer to work around that. It will then likely lock up when trying to stop the
music (such as when loading a save game or starting a new game), although on
rare occasions, it may clear up after a few moments.

Looks like the patch never made it in. You'd probably need to write a simpler
test case that exposes the bug and put it in dlls/gdi32/tests/font.c, and rework
the patch for the current version of Wine.

Wow, an installer other than IE or MDAC that actually uses advpack. The
installer is calling GetFileSecurity with a NULL pSecurityDescriptor parameter,
which, according to msdn, is legit as the parameter is optional. We should add
a simple test case for this and make the appropriate fix. Technically this
should be wine-advapi32, but we don't have that component yet.

I meant to look at this bug earlier. Ya, I had to run Weatherscope with the full
path, and I'm fortunate enough to have a piece of hardware that's not affected
by the opengl bug.
So you said Weatherscope ran great for you for Wine 0.9.29 and earlier. Are you
trying to say the earlier versions did not have this problem?

So the first patch you sent solved the initial problem, but it introduced a new bug:
Today is March 8th, so when I start a calendar, it has the 8th day of the month
highlighted. When I go back to December 2006, the 8th of December is
highlighted. When I highlight December 25th, both the 8th and 25th are highlighted.
I'll see if I can write a conformance test for this bug...

01163010 is a pointer retuned by RtlAllocateHeap(MAX_PATH+1) call just before

The app calls GetCommandLineA first, perhaps it expects to find full start up
path there?

Apparently bug 4790 isn't responsible for that. Looking through the relay log I
found this:
0009:Call kernel32.SetCurrentDirectoryA(01163020 "") ret=00798df0
0009:Ret kernel32.SetCurrentDirectoryA() retval=00000000 ret=00798df0
Seems like it is passing a bogus string to the function and then aborts because
the function fails. No idea where this string it passes comes from.
Changing SetCurrentDirectory to return always TRUE makes the game happy and it
starts(though it crashes later as well somewhere in libGL :( ).

Ah, I see. Then it's clearly done in purpose. But why would they pass the
dividend as parameter instead of hardcoding an inmediate ? It doesn't seem to
make any difference.

First you need to stop using Wine as root. It's been said a thousand times, DO
NOT RUN WINE AS ROOT.
Second, use the virtual C: wine drive for things, not your / drive for things,
it's more dangerous, especially with write permissions to the entire OS from
Wine with you running as root.

Summary: error running VB script in wine
Product: Wine

Can anyone help me with this error? I get this error when I run my vb
script in wine. The script creates a shortcut and works fine when I
run it at a cmd prompt in Windows. I'm new to both vb script and wine.
This occurred using wine version 0.9.31 on linux fedora core 5 (2.6.15-
1.2054_FC5) running in VMWare on a Dell PC.

I've installed Windows Script 5.6 for Windows XP into my wine
installation. Part of my problem may be that I'm running wine with the
windows version set to Windows 98. The reason I'm doing this is I
can't get cscript to work with my Windows version set to XP. Here is
the error I get when just trying to run cscript at the cmd prompt in
wine with the Windows version set to XP:

@ #7
It is normal gnu syntax, ie xmm0 is the source operand and xmm1 the destination
operand.
=> divps xmm0, xmm1 => xmm0 is the divisor, xmm1 is the dividend
That is simply how the instruction is defined.

You said the FPE is generated on purpose, but only the dividend is zero, and the
divisor is a parameter that (at least in my tests) was non-zero.
This seems to follow gnu asm syntax. Is the operand order reversed for SSE
instructions, or are you looking at something else?

All compiled with gcc-4.1.1
I've tried out that http://www.elektronka.com/download/ewb_v5-12_personal.exe

It installed cleanly. The oscyloscope is black and upon quit EWB hangs
repeatedly showing access violation error. After few ^C in the terminal it
stopped. Whole log is gzipped and attached.

PokerStars has this problem too, but from 0.9.32, it seems as if progress is
being made. I can scroll up or down, drag the scroll box up or down, or click
within the scroll bar to move quickly up or down. The only problem seems to be
that the scroll bar box (the box that shows progress within the scroll bar
itself) stays put or resets itself at the very top at all costs when it is
vertical, don't know about a horizontal bar. Before 0.9.32, doing any of these
would reset the contents of available poker tables to the very top. Hopefully,
this will be fixed a.s.a.p.

Leftover stuff is unlikely because I always clean the tree _before_ patching
it up (so I couldn't find any *.o *.a *.so files after a regular clean). OK,
I tried distclean anyway, deleted all leftover Makefiles and configured the
tree. Anything in particular you're interested in? Because the verbose output
doesn't look any different, apart from some messages about specials that won't
be built at the end (like CUPS support or XRandr).
Then I tried running it, but it failed exactly as before. So I renamed ~/.wine
and ran tools/wineprefixcreate -- which built and populated ~/.wine and then
bombed:
wine: Unhandled page fault on read access to 0x00000037 at address 0x6028bdc0
(thread 0009), starting debugger...
warn:gdi:GDI_GetObjPtr Invalid handle 0xe88

Read the Wine Developers Guide on how to set up winedbg or another debugger
err:seh:raise_exception Unhandled exception code c000013a flags 0 addr 0x601f53c2
I then tried running 0.9.32 with this new ~/.wine and first had to fiddle
around with drive_c and dosdevices/c: a bit because my windows stuff is
located elsewhere (symbolic links), but got that sorted out (including the
updated C:\windows directory). So I tried 0.9.32 on DeusEx and it bombed
too. Noteworthy stuff:
warn:module:load_builtin_dll failed to load .so lib for builtin
L"C:\\Programs\\DeusEx\\System\\Core.dll":
/cryptohome/andreas/.wine/dosdevices/c:/Programs/DeusEx/System/Core.dll: invalid

This seems a bit odd. Even if it's OK it's highly irritating.
warn:module:load_builtin_dll cannot open .so lib for builtin L"Core.dll":
/opt/wine/lib/wine/core.dll.so: cannot open shared object file: No such file or
directory
This is odd because /opt/wine is my regular install directory (currently
0.9.8) and since I'm running 0.9.32 from the source directory, Wine shouldn't
look there at all!
warn:module:load_builtin_dll failed to load .so lib for builtin
L"C:\\windows\\system32\\advapi32.dll":

err:seh:raise_exception Unhandled exception code c0000005 flags 0 addr 0xb579c
The end. I'll probably try the full 0.9.32 tarball tomorrow (I used the
patches so far), but highly doubt it'll fix this problem. Any further ideas?

that is not a "cache flush cpu exception" but a SIMD/SSE exception.
And looking at the asm code it seems this divide-by-zero fault is generated on
purpose.
Google says that this is probably part of a runtime SSE detection routine to
detect if the OS supports SIMD exceptions.
The problem is wine doesn't properly recognizes and responds to this exception.
Needs some testing first what exactly windows does here.
I'll try to look into this if no one beats me to it.

Urgh. +relay seems to indicate that CPUID was used just before the exception
happened. Earlier I verified that the code is testing for SSE and SSE2 flags
(although disabling these checks didn't avoid the FPE). This makes sense, but
contradicts my former supposition. I'm not sure about anything now (maybe this
FPE is just the wrong thing to look at?) :-(

FPE in Windows XP
I've run the game through a debugger under Windows XP, and it catches the same
FPE (screenshot attached). After that, the process terminates. The only
explanation I can think of is that this program includes an anti-tracing
mechanism and aborts when a debugger is found. In this case, it could either
be that:
- The FPE is just a red herring.
- The FPE is purposely caused by the program as a "weird" manner of telling
us not to mess with it.
Please can someone with a clue about this confirm or deny my supposition ? And
if it is to be confirmed, any idea on what can wine do to work around this mess
?
Thanks

Try a make distclean in the source tree. As files and directories are moved from
time to time some old stuff gets left and cause problems.
Once clean then
./configure --verbose
and review the output then
make depend && make
Also move or rename ~./wine folder before you regenerate with makeprefixcreate.

My laptop has a 1680x1050 screen and an Nvidia 7300 (driver 9631 under Ubuntu
Feisty Fawn with latest upgrades, including Wine 0.9.32), but if I configure
CS:S to a resolution bigger than 1280x800 and I connect to a server, the game
crashes after a few seconds playing. In fact I think it generally crashes when
someone gets killed, but it's not systematic and the player who gets killed has
not to be visible.
Letting bots play alone, I could try several resolution: there was no problem
with every 4/3 resolutions, including the LCD one. So the game only crashes with
1440x900 and 1680x1050. I also tried with all video options at lowest, with
-dxlevel 70 or in windowed mode, and it crashes to with those resolutions. I
also tried with wine 0.9.30 and 0.9.31, and the same issue was already present.
I just noticed that the video performance test is really slow (about 1-2 FPS,
even in 1280x800) and buggy (depends from one time to another, but one time the
test was drawn only on 1/4 of the screen with misplaced objects in the remainder
of the screen)
I recorder a debug trace but it is really heavy (~34Mb) so I will only attach
the end of it, with what's seems to be outputted when the game crashes
(Unhandled exception: page fault on read access to 0x00000024 in 32-bit code
(0x0d2eb413).
I launched the game with (most of the output is from seh, but as I don't know
what you need, I will let it)

Note that this is when running Wine from its source directory with the
wrapper-script; I have little motivation installing a version that doesn't
even start up properly from there. The last Wine version usable to me was
0.9.8 (this bug happened several releases later, though).
Initially I had hoped it'd get fixed in a future version, but nothing changed
since then and because no updates of Wine over the last 2 years allowed me to
run any programs I couldn't run with a 2004 version I pretty much lost any
motivation to file the bug. I'm doing it now anyway, although my hopes are
low.

The problem occurs with any encoder. I used oggenc.exe from
http://www.rarewares.org/files/ogg/oggenc2.83-aoTuVr1generic.zip .
- start foobar 2000
- add some audio files to the playlist
- mark and right click them
- choose convert -> convert to...
- choose an encoding preset ("Ogg Vorbis, 192kbps, q6.0" in my case)
- click "OK"
- choose a directory where the converted files should be stored
Then a progress dialogue appears where you can see that it encodes one file at a
time. Using native Windows you can see that it does one conversion for each cpu.

Is this being worked on? I'm using Wine 0.9.32 on openSUSE 10.2 and Tomb
Raider II is still indeed very laggy.

Did you tell winecfg to emulate a virtual desktop?
The patch doesn't do anything unless you do.

If you're still having problems with a clean
.wine directory (and without winetools),
please open a new bug with the name of the
app in the bug summary. The current bug report
is getting too confusing, and it looks like
everybody having this problem is improperly
mixing native and builtin dlls.

Bingo! Ryan, that sounds very related. Not sure what the right way
to fix this is, though...

x86_DEBUG_STATE32 should be defined in /usr/include/mach/i386/thread_status.h.
You probably need to upgrade your headers.
