I changed to single quote the path as suggested in the latter email. The fix above does the job and is a one liner ... As a simple test case, I start "wine notepad", and in the text area click the right mouse button. If I'm running a Gnome environment, using metacity as a window manager, I get the menu on the screen. If I am using good old twm, the menu just flashes briefly, apparently when I RELEASE the button. It is not possible to select anything in the menu. Note this is just an illustrating test case. I see the problem in other applications too, and it appears in other window environments.
