I've set Wine to emulate Win98.
When I set it to emulate Win2000,
everything works fine.
David/Steve, can you confirm that
using wine-0.9.10 and emulating win2k
solves the problem?

Its not fixed, it still happens with me running wine 0.9.10. even the temp. fix
(ctr+alt+F6/F7) doesn't work sometimes now. It will screw with the game and I
will be stuck moving in a single direction and my keyboard will not respond.
Even going in and $kill ing the win process doesn't end the program, and I for
some reason, am unable to open any other programs while this is all happening.
The only thing I can do is log out of my username and then log back in.
(I'm running kernel 2.6.13, I tried updating to 2.6.15, but my distribution
<suse 10.0> doesn't like it)

Same bug here with 0.9.9 and 0.9.10 under Ubuntu Dapper (all updates installed).
When clicking the sound tab I get

Creating link /home/jaime/.kde/socket-ubuntu-dapper.

Have tried renaming /usr/lib/wine/winearts.drv.so and the sound tab works and I
manage to get sound, although it is a bit buggy (ALSA with hardware acceleration
works with strange sound the first time a sound is played, without acceleration
works fine, other drivers don't work properly).
Have attached the crash trace

(Rafał, please don't run Wine as root... that's highly insecure.)
I just installed dev-c++ and compiled a hello, world app with
it on wine-0.9.10, no problems.
I couldn't find a mingw-5.0.0.exe anywhere at the dev-c++ site;
you should file a new bug for mingw installation problems,
it seems unrelated to dev-c++, whose bundled copy of mingw
appears to work fine.

The problem is in wine's riched20.dll implementation. As a temporary hotfix,
you can set riched20 to `native, builtin' in winecfg (Word 97 comes with a
native riched20.dll).
If you run Word 97 with a +ntdll,+richedit debug trace you'll see the problem:
The file dialog sets the text in the file selection edit control to "" then
builds the path by calling the shell namespaceŽs IShellFolder::GetDisplayNameOf
and appending the text from the edit control. However, riched20 returns "\r\n"
while it should return "".

Yes, OSS and ALSA. For some strange reason, ALSA seems to perform slightly
better... And I always run applications with "WINEDEBUG=-all", I only enable
debugging if applications crash/ misbehave. "WINEDEBUG=-all" seems to speed up
the application, but it's still unusable (even with maximum latency).
And if the "file not found" error is the one in bug #4882, you might want to
try starting Reason with:
"wine Reason.exe Tutorial\ Song.rns"

The debugger isn't started for some reason.
Can you run it like this:
winedbg winecfg
to see if you get the crash info.
The reason old versions of winecfg work is because they don't try to probe for
all available sound drivers like recient versions do. The driver bug is still
there in older versions but the driver doesn't get used unless you select it.

Summary: Reason 3.0 - unusual slowness
Product: Wine
Version: CVS
Platform: All
URL: http://appdb.winehq.org/appview.php?versionId=2940
OS/Version: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: normal
Priority: P2
Component: wine-multimedia
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: willie(a)froq.net
I decided to report this as I've never seen similar slowness with Wine: Reason
3.0 (music production app) is unbelievable sluggish with Wine. The interface
redraws are really bad with stopped audio playback, but things get even worse
with a song running. With most pro-audio applications, a latency of below 10ms
is no problem for Wine (with either ALSA or OSS driver), but Reason stutters
even with almost 400ms latency.
The console shows lots of fixmes and one err running Reason, but only three
different messages:
fixme:bitblt:X11DRV_BitBlt potential optimization - client-side DIB copy
fixme:msg:SendMessageCallbackW callback will not be called
err:x11drv:X11DRV_CreateBitmap Trying to make bitmap with planes=1, bpp=32
The most common message is the msg-fixme. I'm led to believe that this one is,
at least in a major part, responsible for the slowness. The bitblit-fixme are
very common and appear on any scrolling or interface redraw (hide/ show the
window). The error only appears during startup and seems to be related to the
toolbar button icons (they are all black, and the number of errs is identical
to the number of buttons/ icons).
I found a patch by Robert Shearman from 2003 that tried to fix the msg fixme,
it was never commited, and with todays Wine CVS it applies but leads to a
crash - maybe it would help, if it actually (still?) worked:
http://www.winehq.org/hypermail/wine-patches/2003/01/0191.html
A demo version of Reason 3.0 is available at:
http://www.propellerheads.se/download/files/ReasonDemo_304_pc.zip (63MB).
To even start Reason, you'll also need to apply this patch for the time being:

I am trying to run DVDFab Express. Â The Wine App DVD states that it should
work. Â I have also read other accounts of it working.
When I first tried to run, it failed saying it could not find mfc42.dll. Â So
I put the native mfc42.dll in  /c/windows/system, and go a little further.
When I tried to run it then, I got a warning dialog with no text. Â If I set
WINEDEBUG=+all, and try to run it, I get an a warning dialog with this
message. "The ordinal 67907 could not be located in the dynamic link
library MFC42.DLL".
I looked through the output log, but nothing really jumped at me. Â I don't
know wine all that well. Â Wine version is 0.9.9. Â I have log of the output
generated by WINEDEBUG=+all. Â But I can't attach it to the post. Â If anyone
thinks it might be helpful, I can email it to them. Â Or if someone could
tell me the relevant portion to post here, I will.

Here's the proper fix:
http://winehq.org/pipermail/wine-devel/2006-March/045657.html
After applying the patch edit the file dlls/opengl32/Makefile.in in the
following way:
change the line
IMPORTS = user32 gdi32 advapi32 kernel32
to
IMPORTS = user32 gdi32 advapi32 kernel32 ntdll
and then rerun ./configure and recompile Wine in the usual way.

Every now and then, I try Kid Pix 3.
Last time was four or so months ago,
when I filed bug 3450 et al.
Now, even mounting the cd-rom with unhide,
after installing, the product refuses to
start, saying "Couldn't open data file. We have to quit now."
This seems to be a regression since wine-0.9 or so.
I got a log with +file, but it doesn't seem to be
very enlightening. I guess it's binary search time :-(

Hi Louis,
now that I've upgraded to wine 0.9.10 I thought it might be worth trying hoi2
again. My normal wine installation (with winetools) stops with a blank screen
right after starting the game (before the menu). Then I've seen your posting
here, Louis. So I checked out wine without winetools: it is starting the demo
version of hoi2 pretty fine. And even the scenario is being loaded very
quickly. But the ingame speed is rather slow now. I think I'm experiencing the
same behavior as Scott Ritchie has described when he opened this bug.

OS/Version: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: normal
Priority: P2
Component: wine-files
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: willie(a)froq.net
On start, Reason usually opens a built-in project file. With Wine, however, it
fails to open that file and crashes. The error it gives is:
--- 8< ---
Can not open file
The file "Reason" is not a type of file that the application supports.
--- >8 ---
It works if an existing file is given via the command line, like "wine
Reason.exe Tutorial\ Song.rns".
A demo of Reason 3.0 is available at:
http://www.propellerheads.se/download/files/ReasonDemo_304_pc.zip (63MB).
To start the application, you'll need this patch for the time being:

Looks like you using one too many native dlls. I haven't seen that one before.
Also according to msdn that function doesn't exists - so that's something that
only m$ uses. And from the name and other functions around it looks like that is
something related to application compatibility features of winxp.

The code from NoteXpad is based on this code, look in the about box ;)
The ansi/unicode case sounds like a sticky situation. The code is based on what
Notepad.exe does internally when it loads a file, the author of NoteXpad was
wondering how it did it so fast so I took a look.. since they're opaque handles
that are locked when they're actually used, and just handles until then, realloc
is of no consequence, especially when drawing is locked. (Which notepad does
when it changes handles)
Feel free to email or catch me on winehackers if I can help.

Summary: Fullscreen Wine has Gnome/XFCE toolbars write over the

Product: Wine

Status: UNCONFIRMED

Component: wine-binary
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: ben(a)atomnet.co.uk
Something causes the Gnome toolbars and XFCE toolbars to write over the top of
Wine when it is in fullscreen mode (in almost every program, I've noticed one or
two that don't do it, can't remember right now) which makes them hard/impossible
to use and looks awful meaning you have to use Windowed mode else you have the
bars bleeding through, or rather completely over the top. The mouse moves over
the bars too though which means FPSs and such are impossible to use.
I'm not sure if this bug has already been reported. I searched but didn't turn
anything up.

Hi, i don't know how to fix the bug, but if the application is really important
for you, you could try the following workaround:
get the source, comment line 829 in dlls/x11drv/dib_convert.c,
(/*srcpixel=srcbits;*/) like mentioned before, recompile , and
cp dlls/x11drv/winex11.drv.so ~/.wine/drive_c/Program\ Files/ASP32/winex11.drv
Now revert the hack, and recompile, otherwise the hack might break other
programs, and install wine.
run by WINEDLLOVERRIDES="winex11.drv=n" wine ASP32 in ~/.wine/drive_c/Program
Files/ASP32. I know this is a very ugly hack, but apart from the icons being
screwed up, the app works, and the hack won't break other programs. Of course
you would have to do this for every new wine release until someone fixes it :(.

The function IWineD3DImpl_CheckDeviceType always returns D3DERR_NOTAVAILABLE if
there is already a GLContext.
The question would be if WineD3D_CreateFakeGLContext should return the current
GLContext if there is one already.
The WineD3D_CreateFakeGLContext function seems to contain some handling for that
but it's not working.
This bug prevent EVE Online from displaying the login screen.
(you also need to create a registry key to get the login screen to display - see
http://myeve.eve-online.com/ingameboard.asp?a=topic&threadID=30457&page=9#2…)
repro:
- download and install Eve Online
- add the registry key
- follow the IWineD3DImpl_CheckDeviceType function
without the D3D_OK return the slash screen displays and a black login screen
area appears
with the always D3D_OK change the splash screen displays and the login screen
appears

Workaround under KDE:
Right click on the Window title bar, select "Configure window behaviour"
Choose "Window Specific Settings"
On the "Window" tab, click on the "Detect" button, then in the Quicken window
- it should set "Window Class" to "qw.exe wine", and check "Match whole window
class"
Go to the "Geometry" tab and check all boxes on the "size" and the two
"maximize" rows, set to "Apply Initially", set the size to some larger values.
Finally, on the "Workarounds" tab: "Window Type" Force "Normal Window";
"Ignore requested geometry", "Force", check; "Minimum Size", Force and some
large values.
I don't know how many of these values are actually necessary but they worked
for me.
fwiw, it isn't necessary after a clean install on wine 0.9.9

It looks like a CVS commit in the last 12 to 24 hrs have fixed the font look up
problems and Wine is using and showing the *.fon files in any font select dialog.
But as before when I us kfontviewer or fontforge in wine/font/ the
ms_sans_serif.ttf, system.ttf courier.ttf are blank.
The new CVS build worked correctly with my old .wine setups without rm -f ,wine
So the only remaining problem is the three ttf's built by wine seem to be
faulty. But they are not installed by wine.
So it this a problem with fontforge after 1.0 I am using a very recent version.
See the system.ttf attachment This has no data.

Meanwhile, i had access to a ICD2 device for about one week and i made several
experiments up to the hight of my skill level. To make it short, i did not
manage to get the ICD2 working. However, i tried to track down this FIFO issue,
which after all is the true reason for this bug in my opinion.
John, you are right that there is no way to set the FIFO size under Linux with
one exception. You can fool the kernel by setting the UART chip
to 8250 which has no FIFOs at all. This works fine with 2.4xx kernels according
to here:
http://www.ussg.iu.edu/hypermail/linux/kernel/0408.0/0798.html
As far as they pointed out there, this does not work with 2.6 kernels because of
a bug in the serial module of the 2.6 kernel. And as far as i could make clear
this is very sad but never the less true.
Simply using two small terminal.exe apps, one under wine and another one under
windows, both connected via a nullmodem cable it can made sure that the kernel
2.6 when set to UART 8250 sends out only one character out of 16. So 15
characters are dropped to nirvana instead of sent. Aafter all im sure that would
you use an old serial card with a real 8250 chip under a 2.4xx linux kernel you
could probably connect to and work with your ICD2 like a charme.
However, since my Picstart as well as our Promate II works well under wine, i
can only wonder why those Microchip idi*ts choosed to use a completely different
port setup for the ICD2 communication.
Finally i wonder if this "bug" ever can be fixed within wine or if this is a
more general linux 2.6 bug which can only be fixed by the kernel guys.
I would be glad to hear tony's opinion about this, thanks.

Looks like regression testing is becoming a new hobby of mine... This patch
caused it http://www.winehq.org/pipermail/wine-cvs/2006-March/021472.html
Steps to check:
In current cvs do patch -Rp1 -i patch.diff (above mentioned patch) en recompile
Now the video plays again.
Note: sometimes (1 out of 6 times i would guess) the video doesn't start either
but crashes in bink32.dll. And on my computer the video
crashes in the end with a Bad Match but that might be due to my Ati driver (not
sure) :

Summary: New "canonical" shadowbane installer crashes.
Product: Wine
Version: 0.9.9.
Platform: PC
OS/Version: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: critical
Priority: P2
Component: wine-binary
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: rick.richardson(a)gmail.com
The new Free Shadowbane comes via a downloadable installer that includes the
entire game and expansion packs. This should probably be the primary target for
getting it working, as this will be the primary delivery form from this point on.
Running the installer, it starts up InstallAnywhere and unpacks, once its
unpacked, a full screen splash graphic opens up and the program crashes directly
at that point with a page fault.
To Reproduce: Run the Installer.
The application is available via fileplanet. Or email me and I will ftp a copy
to wherever it needs to go.
Trace with +seh, +relay, +loaddll attached

I wonder if the correct solution might be using a bitwise and as a mask instead
of equality checking - if the value being tested is VT_VARIANT|VT_BYREF than it
wouldn't ever be equal to VT_VARIANT.
The following fixed the error for my case :
if (rgvt[i] & VT_VARIANT)
VariantCopy(&rgvarg[i], src_arg);
else if ((rgvt[i] & VT_BYREF) && !V_ISBYREF(src_arg))

Looks like app asks for 32 bit color and your graphics card does not support it.
We handle that case explicitly so it should work if it's supported by hardware.
It could be because video card is not accelerated/you don't have drivers
installed properly.

Hallo,
as of 0.9.10, still printing only lines.
I'll post loaddll log. What native dll's should I try to replace the builtin
ones in order to make it working? GDI?
Or do You think that this is solely wine vs Postscript issue and doesn't depend
on DLLs?

In aplication LFS.exe (live for speed), which is directx8 game, some of the
textures and/or surfaces are rendered in weird colors. Game worked fine until
wine 0.9.6. With yesterdays cvs version this was still not fixed. For testing
you could download demo version of LFS from http://www.liveforspeed.net/ . It
does not require any install, so it may be usefull for testing.

Installing Sun's Java is difficult,
and although trivial Java programs do
work, I have yet to get the Java plugin
to work in Firefox. There are probably many bugs here.
After installing the JDK, I had to do
~/.wine/drive_c/Program Files$ cp Java/jre1.5.0_06/bin/NP*.dll Mozilla\
Firefox/plugins/
before the java plugins showed up in about:plugins.

Check if you have "marlett.ttf" font that Wine comes with. You might need to
copy it to c:\windows\fonts
As far as minimize button yeah it's a known bug... (that is still not fixed
because it requires either hack or extensive modifications).
