Mounting a network drive isn't supported no, but note that your program
would also exit on a Windows machine that is not part of a domain.
That said, Samba allows you to mount Windows network drives, it's just
that Wine is not (yet) integrated with Samba so that it's possible to
mount network drives by calling Windows APIs.
You may still be able to trick this app by returning success from the
API that is supposed to mount the network drive. Then setup a Samba
mount by hand and use winecfg to assign the expected drive letter to
the mount point you created.

Unfortunatly there is little information on this issue as there is no error
output from WINE at all.
When running winamp full 5.x and trying to bring up the media library, either by
hot key or by context menu, does nothing at all. There is no error output or
anything at all on the command line and the program its self continues to run as
normal, except that the Media Library item in the context menu does not get
checked.

logon dialog box does not appear. I've done some testing with changing to native

Now I've gotten a similar error running the office installer under Gentoo with
the same user directory mounted via NFS from the Mandriva server.
I have the setgid bit set on the /home/mso2k directory. I'll try unsetting
the setgid bit on all the directories.
This problem is very reproducible on the Mandriva side.
Now, we do run LDAP authentication here. So what I've tried today was to use
the getent passwd, getent group and getent shadow commands to copy the
entries which pertain to the mso2k user into the plaintext authentication
files. Still with this same strange result.
I'm being very careful to insure that I'm not starting these commands as root.
Today when running Wine 0.9.6 on the Gentoo box, the install went much
further, this time many of the font files ended up being owned by root.
I have two ideas left to try...
I'm going to remove the setgid bits from the /home/mso2k directories.
I'm going to own the origin directory from where the installer is run over to
the mso2k user.

imported functions from advapi32.dll
As requested, this is a list of all imported functions from advapi32.dll
As to what happened after recompiling wine-0.9.9: the installation program
runs, but couldn't mount a network drive from a windows domain. So the
installation exits. I'm afraid this cannot be resolved by simply adding more
stubs.

A side note: Fractal Mapper will use "Windows Script" and the mfc42 DLL. To
use other parts of the program, these needs to be installed, as well as the
Arial TTF font. But this particular problem is not affected by the installation
of these additional DLL:s. It neither gets better nor worse.

Summary: Fractal Mapper: fill patterns get wrong
Product: Wine
Version: 0.9.9.
Platform: PC
URL: http://www.nbos.com/products/mapper/mapper.htm
OS/Version: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: major
Priority: P2
Component: wine-kernel
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: goeran(a)uddeborg.se
I'm trying to get Fractal Mapper from NBOS to run under Wine. It is mostly
running, but using fill patterns fails.
To reproduce:
1. Download Fractal Mapper 7 trial version from
http://www.nbos.com/download/FM7Trial.exe
2. Install: wine FM7Trial.exe
3. Start: wine Mapper7.exe
4. Select some pattern as "Fill Style" (a pull-down menu at the far right of the
third panel). For example "Floor, gray"
5. Select the rectangle tool (second item in fourth row of "Standard Tools".
6. Make a rectangle in the drawing area.
The content of the rectangle is not a correct pattern fill, but just some
strange color combination. A certain fill pattern seems to give the same color
combination all the time, different fill patterns give different patterns. But
not the correct pattern.
The bmp file containing the pattern looks correct. They are found in the
FillPatterns directory under the installation. Doing something like
display "Floor, gray.bmp"
(using "display" from ImageMagick") shows the pattern correctly.

Hi Tytus, i tried the app as well and it indeed crashes. Just before the crash i
see:
0012:Call kernel32.GetVersion() ret=7d8e15b7
0012:Ret kernel32.GetVersion() retval=c0000a04 ret=7d8e15b7
trace:seh:raise_exception code=c0000005 flags=0 addr=0x7d8e1470
and then the crash.
retval=c0000a04 means win98, if i change that into 0x08930005 (win2000) in
GetVersion the crash is gone, but the app stops somewhere in updating Gameguard,
whatever that may be. I just think the application cannot run on windows98, so
needs at least win2000, and then it's just a duplicate of bug 3947. Do you , by
any chance, know if this is a "win 2000, or higher"-only game?

Summary: Virtual Felix (animated cat) causes high CPU-load and

Product: Wine
Version: 0.9.9.
Platform: Other
OS/Version: other
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: minor
Priority: P2
Component: wine-binary
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: winehq(a)richardneill.org
Virtul Felix is a (free) animated cat for Windows and Mac, designed to play
around on your screen. He is a bit like Neko (from the KDE-toys Amor package) in
this respect. However, when activated, as he walks over the taskbar, it causes
repeated refreshes of the taskbar beneath, causing the taskbar and Felix to
flicker, and using 100% of the CPU.
Felix2.exe may be dowloaded for free from here:
http://www.catslikefelix.co.uk/index.asp
You have to register, log in, and then click "Get Your own Felix".
I know that this application is hardly a high priority, but I do know of a
certain cat lover who would be very well disposed to penguins if it could be
fixed. Thank you!

Cancel this, it has no sense, since patched/unpatched 2005-x-x versions differ
only in that minimal change in module.c, thus all other builtins are equal.
It seems uxtheme.dll could be involved after all.
What now?

Version 2005-10-19 without patch contains this dll load:
trace:loaddll:load_builtin_dll Loaded module L"c:\\windows\\system32\\uxtheme.d

version 2005-10-19 with the regression patch does not load this dll, and does
not show the crash.
All other dll loads are identical.
current version (0.9.9) also shows the bug, and also loads the uxtheme.dll
builtin. In addition, it loads
trace:loaddll:MODULE_LoadModule16 Loaded module "mmsystem.dll" : builtin
However, it is not said that uxtheme.dll is to blame, as all builtin dlls could

Last remark: the bug seems to be in this line in /dlls/ntdll/virtual.c:
if (header_size > st.st_size) goto error;
I've put a few extra traces there and saw header_size=4096 and st.st_size=3584.
I'm not familiar with the code , but i guess st.st_size is the size of the file
(CpuDetect.dll has exactly this size) and header_size is the size of the header.
Does that give a hint to a solution? (removing the line makes the app start
fine, but that's not a solution i guess)

Ok... I managed to get the program installed. Wit hte instructions that one of
you gave me. One problem. Excel Locks up on Start. Can't use it period. It
appears that the problem that I had was when I created the .wine directory.
Instead of the wine program creating it. I used winecfg. winecfg does something
different then wine and as a result the program didn't install.
However Excel is still crashing. But now with the new version of wine not even
winetools works. Something to do with IE. It can't install IE at all now. I had
one heck of a time getting DCOM98 to install. I had to blow away my entire .wine
directory and install it using winetools just to get it to install.

cd ~/.wine/drive_c/Programme/Port\ Royale/

BTW, the oci.dll problem is just because you don't have

Summary: Putty unusable until font changed or Courier New

Product: Wine
Version: 0.9.9.
Platform: Other
URL: http://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~sgtatham/putty/
OS/Version: other
Status: NEW
Keywords: download
Severity: normal
Priority: P2
Component: wine-misc
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: dank(a)kegel.com
As part of my dogfood testing, I'm trying to live with
Putty on wine instead of using windows ssh.
putty's default font settings are unusable with
Wine's default fonts. Particular problems are the
'm' and 'w' glyphs, which Putty seems to think are
half as wide as they really are; when you type 'm'
at the putty username prompt, it looks as if you typed 'n'
because the block cursor obscures the right half of the glyph.
To repeat:
0. Wipe out ~/.wine as usual when testing new apps
1. install putty-0.58, e.g. by running
http://the.earth.li/~sgtatham/putty/latest/x86/putty-0.58-installer.exe
2. try logging in to localhost, and typing the letters of the alphabet.
Observe that 'm' and 'w' run over the cell width.
The workaround is either
a) in putty, click on Window / Appearance / Font Settings / Change,
and pick a font that is installed instead of the default Courier New
or
b) install courier font from http://corefonts.sf.net, e.g. by running
http://easynews.dl.sourceforge.net/sourceforge/corefonts/courie32.exe
Neither of these should really be needed, should they?
Is Wine mapping Courier New to a variable-width font? That'd be just plain wrong...

Like I stated before if anything my patch should allow to load additional dlls.
That's where your problem could be. In the dll that before would not be loaded.

This statement points more towards heap corruption/other regressions.

Unfortunatelly I do not have time right now. Attach the logs I requested above

I would not accept those anyway, sorry.
Please provide +loaddll trace before and after the patch in question. This
should show what dlls are being loaded.

I don't think so, there has been a thread about this already a few months ago on
wine-devel and if i remember correctly creating empty files in system32 wasn't
accepeted as solution. But maybe we could create a kind of "meta" bug for these
applications as i know there are quite a few bugs in bugzilla that can be solved
by just doing this simple trick (for exapmle bug 3877)

Download OracleXEClient.exe, the Oracle 10 Express Client installer,
from oracle.com, and run it. It lets you go through the process,
and seems to install, but at the end it crashes
with a dialog box saying
"Error Number: 0x80040707
Description: DLL function call crashed: Advapi32.CreateServiceA
Setup will now terminate."
Running with WINEDEBUG=+advapi didn't really show much of
interest, other than that this is the first call to CreateService.
Running under winedbg also didn't show much.
Maybe it's debug printf time...
I ran into this while trying to test keeptool.com's Hora.exe
(hard to test an oracle database helper tool without a database...)

The app will display the splash screen and the

Starting Hora.exe under winedbg gets you past
this; you have to type "pass" about twelve times to
get to the "connect to database" popup, and it accepts
user input then.

I've done another test and it seems that it may not be a strictly-wine problem.
Previous tests were done on KDE 3.5, with and without 'Allow window manager to
control the window' set. Now I start UT with xinit on display :1 and it seems to
work without any problems. Could it be a KDE bug ? Any ideas how to further
track it?

I have not loaded any additional fonts under Linux. The program allows you to
choose from any available fonts on the system. In the screen shot I have right
clicked some text and select the font option to bring up the font picker. The
font picker shows the font size is 48, but back on the diagram the font size is
always fixed to around font size 12.

Update. I have run some tests and I'm happy it's not the sin() and cos()
functions that are the issue. At least part of the problem is to do with
variable types and or variable declarations. The following vb test code gives
different results between Wine and Windows:
Private Sub Command1_Click()
Label1.Caption = testfunction(2100, 1845, 3960, 2460)
End Sub
Public Function testfunction(x1, y1, x2, y2)
'slope calculation
tmp1 = y1 - y2
tmp2 = x1 - x2
tmp3 = tmp1 / tmp2
testfunction = tmp3
End Function
On windows it returns the result 0.330645161290323, whereas under Wine it
returns 0.
The workaround is to declare the variable types passed to the testfunction eg.
Public Function testfunction(x1 as double, y1 as double, x2 as double, y2 as
double)
'slope calculation
...
The following declaration also returns 0 under Wine:
Public Function testfunction(x1, y1, x2, y2) As Double
'slope calculation
...

tried latest CVS (10.03.2006)
updated with: cvs update -PAd
made the compile: ./configure; make depend; make
installed: make uninstall ; make install
tried to run the program:
FAILED, tray icon did not appear, program didn't start
tried to do a little debug session, but the program froze:
# winedbg /root/.wine/drive_c/Program\ Files/YPOPs/ypops.exe
WineDbg starting on pid 0xa
start_process () at /usr/src/wine/dlls/kernel/process.c:845

and here it froze, after 10 minutes i tried to do Ctrl-C
and got:
Ctrl-C: only stopping the first process
waited a while
then killed konsole.
I guess i'll get a wine 0.9.7 and compile it, and run ypops from source. And
the others i'll run them from latest wine.

Anyway, I've confirmed that using the latest HEAD of 3/10/06, and git-revert'ing
on that one single commit (576e3b706299f21897fc09c15b767fd79e701e79), the
problem goes away.

This is almost certainly a problem with your kernel, not with Wine. If you've
recently upgraded it, please try reverting back to the last kernel you had that
worked.

And then an error dialog titled "Application Error": "Exception Exception in

This also fails with an older setup binary of Beyond Compare, which I've
installed using wine (0.9.6 or something).
If needed, I could check which wine version won't fail, but that seems more
difficult as they are not available in the repo anymore.
I'm using Ubuntu Linux and the package from winehq.org.

http://source.winehq.org/git/?p=wine.git;a=commit;h=576e3b706299f21897fc09c…
Running civ4 worked (for the most part) up until that commit. I'll attach a
debug trace of both before and after the regression. Since that patch, it opens
the first dialog box saying "Init Files..." then crashes.
FYI, this app is run with a native msxml3 override.

The program is buggy, crashes here on Win2000.
It is calling EndPaint() with 1 parameter. EndPaint expects 2 and pop's the
saved ebp register from the stack -> crash.
I have sent in the attached patch with a fix, not sure if it will be accepted.

Noted. This was a quick patch, and I wasn't sure of the spacing schema for wine
files.
> IMO, you're working around a deficiency in your operating system, not fixing a

Although I agree with the fact that there is a deficienty in my operation
system, I'm still of the opinion that it's an issue worth fixing.
There's no denying that udev has now replaced the previous schema, and it's also
clear that js* devices are now meant to reside in /dev/input. It doesn't make
much sense to build software software that relies on its environment having
backward compatability when the relavent change has clearly been adopted at
every other level in the environment, especially when there are no good reasons
other than "this is the way it used to be".

Summary: EXCEL Crashes
Product: Wine
Version: 0.9.9.
Platform: PC-x86-64
OS/Version: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: blocker
Priority: P2
Component: wine-binary
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: philip(a)digitalinfinity.biz
This is a bug report for the Excel application. I've installed wine 0.9.9. Since
you don't want us to use winetools anymore I decided to remove my .wine
directory and run it right out of the box.
I ran winecfg
The settings I changed was to set the sound card to use alsa.
To allow pixel shaders in the graphics section. Thats it.
In installing Microsoft office I noticed one thing.
The screen does not update at all during the installation.
The progress bar doesn't appear on the screen. Or the outline does but it
doesn't fill in during the progress.
Prior to the installation a message comes up on the screen.
"The split of the Windows Desktop Update from the IE browser has been completed.
You are currently running a self-host version of the web shell. Please go to
http://ie/teams/setup/shdoc401.htm for more information on how to run a released
version of the Windows Desktop Update. "
Installer begins installation. The fonts look nice. They come up nice in the
opening windows. Good job on that aspect of the rendering engine.
I'm able to enter my license key.
I start the installation. And it installs. It takes quite a long time though.
The screen says the following
"Please wait while Windows configures Microsoft Office 2000."
And then I wait. Its like nothing is happening except for the fact that my hard
drive light goes on once in a while.
The installation runs through however the installer seems to have quit during
the installation for no apparent reason.
DCOM doesn't appear to install. I can't get around this. Winetools doesn't work.
As DCOM installation doesn't work also. So I'm at a loss as to what could be
causing the crash.
If I'm doing something wrong to configure this thing. Or if I have to install
something to get this thing working it would be appreciated if one of you could
let me know. But since I was testing this right out of the box. This is what
wine does out of the box on a Fedora Core 4 system with all the updates
installed using Yum. Even wine was installed using yum. So if they are missing
something perhaps letting them know would be beneficial.
The following messages came back from the installer as I was logging the output
to a file:

Your patch looks OK, except you should leave JOYDEV alone, and add
/dev/input/js0 as JOYDEV_ALT, and stick to the four space indent and ANSI C
bracket style in the rest of the file.
IMO, you're working around a deficiency in your operating system, not fixing a
wine bug.

Ugh, you're right, that's bass ackwards. That's a typo, and should disregarded
entirely.

look for joystick in /dev/input, and fall back to /dev if not possible
Hm... thanks for clearing up the js* convention. I wasn't entirely sure if
older kernels used /dev/js*
How about having wine look in /dev/input by default, but fall back to /dev if
none are detected?
>From the looks of it, a good portion of the major distributions are not making
the compatability symlink, and it seems silly to have joystick support break
just because wine only supports an older convention.

> So, I'm fairly convinced that any symlink, if available, should
> actually be /dev/input/js* -> ../js*
That's the wrong way round though. The old convention was that "/dev/js*"
existed. New system software maintains compatability with older systems by
creating a symlink from the old location to the new location. Old systems can't
be changed, and old software uses /dev/js*, so it should always be available.
A newer distribution maintains compatibility with older software by setting up
like follows:
bash-3.00$ ls -l /dev/input/js0 /dev/js0
crw-r--r-- 1 root root 13, 0 2001-01-08 08:58 /dev/input/js0
lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 9 2005-11-23 06:15 /dev/js0 -> input/js0
/dev/js0 shouldn't ever disappear, because there'll always be some old software
round that uses it. /dev/input/js0 shouldn't be used by Wine because it may be
run on older systems that don't use udev, and don't have /dev/input/js0.
