For example; my GNOME desktop has a PDF viewer, but when an application that is run via wine calls ShellExecute on a PDF file, wine is only capable of opening this file with PDF handlers that are installed within the wine environment. ElsterFormular is a app for German tax payers which is the only free app for annual income tax return and only supports "the evil OS" (political reasons?). It seems to be based on Qt. Test case with translation: 1. wine ~/.wine/drive_c/Programme/ElsterFormular/bin/elfostarter.exe (default) 2. Menu Datei -> Neu (File -> New) 3. Privatperson -> Einkommensteuererklärung (private individual -> income tax return) on the left 4. Hauptvordruck -> Seite 1 is automatically loading (needs long time) 5. In current git (wine-1.3.8-66-gc82aa50), the videos don't play at all, but that's bug 25351. These should be installed in some place where panels, pagers, window managers can find them (packager's duty?). However, at the moment two common sizes are missing: 24x24 and some larger version like 64x64, 128x128 or 256x256. In GNOME3's window chooser, 64x64 icons are shown. Currently, wine only shows a smaller icon here, which looks kind of out of place (see attached screenshot). The large page interfaces on Windows were introduced in Windows Server 2003. However, due to limitations in the NT VM, large pages are always pinned in memory (not pageable) and become scarce due to excessive fragmentation. Wine has the advantage of running on platforms with better support for large pages. Because the memory is normally pinned, the process must have SeLockMemoryPrivilege on Windows.
