Blizzard Updater Problem

I haven't been able to get the blizzard updater to run on recent versions of wine (I've downloaded from CVS to make sure there isn't a fix). I'm not sure if this is something wrong with my setup or a bug with wine (i recently reinstalled my system with Fedora Core 2 and am no-longer running the same version of wine). I'm executing programs with "setarch i386 wine <appname>" but the blizzard updater seems hosed (though Diablo II and Warcraft III run fine). It appears that the updater doesn't launch correctly (i'm guessing because of the setarch stuff) so I run the updater manually by typing "setarch i386 wine BNupdate.exe" and I get this: fixme:msvcrt:_XcptFilter (-1073741819,0x5584f76c)semi-stub wine: Unhandled exception (thread 0009), starting debugger... fixme:console:SetConsoleCtrlHandler (0x55609ec4,1) - no error checking or testing yet WineDbg starting on pid 0x8 Unhandled exception: page fault on write access to 0x00000000 in 32-bit code (0x558fc91c). In 32 bit mode. 0x558fc91c: movl $0x0,0x0(%eax) Wine-dbg>quit WineDbg terminated on pid 0x8 At which point I have to type quit to close the debugger (as you can see). Any help would be greatly appreciated, if you need more information just send me a message.

Warning about ultra-confusing thing

Hi all, Sometimes it is convenient to do a "killall -9 wine-pthread" to kill Wine for whatever reason. This no longer works: $ ps ax | grep wine-pthread | grep -v grep 10425 pts/4 S 0:00 /opt/wine/bin/wine-pthread notepad.exe $ killall wine-pthread wine-pthread: no process killed $ killall wine-preloader $ Huh? WTF is going on here? Well, it seems that "ps" and "killall" look at different places to get the process name, so despite the fact that it appears as wine-pthread in the process list, you must use the name wine-preloader in order to send it signals from the command line. There are reasons for this, which will hopefully become clear when I submit my docs on the Wine init process. For now, you have been warned. thanks -mike

MSDN states that newpos parameter is allowed to be NULL, in that case a new file pointer is not returned. To avoid code duplication SetFilePointer should become just a wrapper for SetFilePointerEx. -- Dmitry.

winetest.exe on wine fails

When I try to run winetest.exe on wine, it fails with an error dialog: "Can't redirect stdout." and prints: fixme:msvcrt:_dup2 (od=3, nd=1): stub to the screen. Shouldn't we be able to run wintest.exe on wine?

Microsoft Visio 2000

Has anyone managed to get Microsoft Visio 2000 working on a native wine install. I.E. No Pre installed Windows partition. If so, how? If not, I will open a bug and post the details of where the install fails. Cheers James

Most run in non-interactive mode through winrash, others through winetest. The most we can do is leave the error in, and bug people into fixing their setup, but I'm not sure this is practical. segfault at startup -- race condition

Recall that "./wine" usually, but not always, segfaults for me. I have tracked my race condition down to SHELL_LoadRegistry where the successful runs exit via the first return ("someone else already loaded the registry") whereas the segfaulting runs go on. Ideas? Morten
