I changed the code to use EnterCritcalSection for mutual exclusion, and tried requesting GENERIC_WRITE. Using GENERIC_WRITE, it seems that the problem disappears. Could you please point me to the bug no. or any other reference that explains the "other bug" you're refering to? If it helps, I can attach the changed sample code, or email it to you. This is still a bug in Wine, but a different one. Also note that the mutex in your sample code is useless since you create a new one for every invocation of the function.
