Although this is just a warning, it's annoying to clear it every time the game is run. The game seems to be looking for the existence of the following registry keys and will stop complaining if they are imported into the wine prefix's registry: HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\AppID\{B8C54A54-355E-11D3-83EB-00A0C92A2F2D} HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Applications\wmplayer.exe FYI: The game seems to run just fine in wine despite the warning. I haven't seen any media playback issues. Normally, when the PlayOnline Viewer window is visible but not the active window, it will lower its FPS to ~5 and the mouse cursor will not change over it, nor do the buttons respond to the cursor until the window is activated. Once it is the active window, the FPS for me will be above 40 depending on what is on the screen, and the mouse cursor is a custom cursor from the application. With the mentioned commit, the application window acts as if it is not the active window, with the reduced FPS and non-custom cursor, but it responds to clicks on buttons and such as usual when it is the active window. This does not happen 100% of the time, sometimes taking a handful or minimise/restore actions. When I replace comctl32 from 10.16 all works as earlier. Uses Unity Engine) doesn't work under wine-10.15. Attempting to start the game in a clean prefix results in the game crashing with a black screen instantly on start up. Installing DXVK into the wine prefix gets the game to show it's company logos, but it then runs into https://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=49028. Attempting to use -force-vulkan or -force-glcore Unity cmdline args results in the common UnityPlayer error: InitializeEngineGraphics failed. So the game lacks support for any alternative renderers. A demo is available on steam for anyone wanting to try this. Strangely, the game's store page claims it's Steam Deck Verified. Specifically, the background color of the toolbar has a darker color, and there is a stray horizontal line that is visible and appears to intersect the tops of the toolbar icons. Additionally, hovering the cursor over the icons results in a blue box that is drawn around a hovered icon but is not cleared when the cursor leaves the icon. With wine-10.16, the rendering of the toolbar seems to be more correct. The background color apparently resembles the color on Windows 10, no stray horizontal line is visible on the toolbar, and hovering over the toolbar icons with the cursor results in a blue box being drawn around a hovered icon that is cleared when the cursor leaves the icon. These behaviors are consistent with what is seen on Windows 10. Regression testing identified commit 541d9be5ecda1bc0c8fce22f1318bf5d72572327, which implemented the final modifications needed for comctl32 separation, as the change that introduced the broken toolbar rendering. (even with telling properties to not change in the wm itself, wine tries to keep changing settings and this happens) jwm is kind of fubar no matter what jwm and fluxbox both still require QS_POSTMESSAGE fix to get past the splashscreen : see https://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=57954 not sure what the reason was behind the above change but it causes hints to be repeatedly changed, which incorrectly detects 'fullscreen' by ... dlls/win32u/window.c : apply_window_pos() calls dlls/win32u/sysparams.c : is_window_rect_full_screen() checks rects sizes to determine fullscreen (then calls x11drv) user_driver->pWindowPosChanged() which finally calls wm_net and wmw hint updates fullscreen is incorrect because a minimized window does not keep its size/monitor i assume. then the 'no-op' change retries and somewhere things get set to random states, like wanting titlebars and decor again. patch attached that lets it work on fluxbox and openbox, however, not sure that is complete, as it crosses over with many other bugs since late 9.x thinking the openbox issue may be related to a bug with c67bfdbeba1860c891e53c64379f5e86d8e8b664 -- Do not reply to this email, post in Bugzilla using the above URL to reply. The page fault is caused by CreateFileW as it processes the name of the file from the parameter list. The name pointer is 0x00007f8a, which is an address in an unmapped page. This value is also an index into Windows resources, selecting the hourglass icon. What has happened is that the application was attempting to load the hourglass icon and passed in BOTH the Windows resource index and a flag indicating LOADFROMFILE. Wine attempted to load-from-file and looked for the file name through the "name" parameter (0x00007f8a) generating the page fault. Native Windows appears to give the value of the "name" pointer precedence and determines that the "name" parameter is actually a resource number; hence it does not page fault and runs Okad2 normally. Wine *DOES* check the "name" parameter to see if it is a resource index, but several subroutine calls later it forgets this fact and branches based on the LOADFROMFILE bit. The backtrace has been annotated to provide both a description and source lines involved in the decision. This is different from the usual broken apps a la "I failed at porting my 32-bit app to 64-bit" (pointer truncation). In this case, pointers from certain allocations are broken into multiple parts and used as indices into multi-level lookup tables. Pitfall: there is a 44-bit user-mode VA limitation (8TB) for 64-bit Windows which was lifted starting with Windows 8.1+. Wine doesn't respect the 44-bit pre-Windows 8.1 virtual address space limits, allowing process heaps to be placed in 0000'7Fxx'0000'0000 range (128 TB) which causes out-of-bounds access to lookup tables when indices overflow (derived from pointer bits). The exception occurs in entry point, causing 'msxml6.dll' to be unloaded. One workaround is to move Wine's top-down allocations/heaps into 8 TB VA range (Wine preloader) and impose same user-mode address space bits limits as with all 64-bit Windows versions < 8.1 to stay "compatible". I've tested it and it works for native here. Not sure if it's worth to change though. I don't know if a separate 64-bit MSXML6 re-distributable package exists that has been fixed wrt Windows 8.1+ address space limits. It gets stuck on "Starting Max...", and renaming the Max folder to something else (this tricks Ableton into thinking that Max is not installed) makes the program start just fine. The cause of this issue seems to be a regression in ucrtbase (Max for Live was working just fine before Wine 9.12 if I recall correctly). By installing the program multiple times I have noticed that Max does start upon launching Ableton just after installing, but not on subsequent runs. I have observed this issue in Wine 9.0 and 9.17, as well as WineCX 22.1 and 23.7. I believe it did work correctly in WineCX 22.0 and I ended up copying "win32u.dll.so" from that version into WineCX 22.1 to get it to work there too (I can attach this file if it would be helpful). To reproduce this issue you can download EV Nova from here: https://github.com/andrews05/EV-Nova-CE/releases/tag/r3 Press the "x" key at the main menu to display a text dialog where you should see the issue. Before this patch: no taskbar window for a normal or minimized owned window. After this patch: no taskbar window for normal owned window, after a window being minimized a taskbar button appears, after a window being restored a taskbar button gets removed. This happened for example in the intro video of Vampire: The Masquerade - Redemption. The video is 640x346 and my screen is 2560x1440. See attached screenshot for how it looks. It would be better if the scaled window was positioned in the middle, with some black bands for areas that are caused by mismatch in aspect ratio. If I'm launching the game with a path as an argument(wine '~/Downloads/EA GAMES/Need for Speed Most Wanted/speed.exe'), it crashes with wine: Unhandled page fault on read access to 01DF0004 at address 0065AA27(or 2c, it differs) (thread 0144), starting debugger... but it works if I'm in the same folder and just use the exe name. This bug is, from what I observed, app-specific.
