http://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=59853 --- Comment #2 from quasar quasar <quasarhasanewemail@proton.me> --- Clarifying that even if the ulimit -Hn isn't set to 4096 or ntsync is unloaded, the game doesn't work per https://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=59851. The difference is that it crashes for a different reason Also wanted to add https://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=59851#c3 and a few more notes to the comment above. I misremembered, the gentoo wiki does offer guidance on ntsync here https://wiki.gentoo.org/wiki/Steam#Kernel and there https://wiki.gentoo.org/wiki/Wine#Kernel but my approach was to force-load ntsync with /etc/modules-load.d, which comes from https://github.com/GloriousEggroll/proton-ge-custom/blob/353745b642877ca610c... Also, in the Steam#Kernel page, the page notes that proton produces a "WARNING: Low file descriptor limit: 4096 (see https://github.com/ValveSoftware/Proton/wiki/File-Descriptors)", so it might be useful to look at their implementation? It seems that I got thrown into a bad system configuration *because* it works fine 99% of the time, is everywhere on reddit and other places, AND nothing in the wine logs tells me that (also, when I run proton, i do not log or have a terminal, and since it's the only "wine flavor" that tells me that explicitely, well...) -- Do not reply to this email, post in Bugzilla using the above URL to reply.
