JXL isn't widely supported, though the plumbing could be put in, it probably shouldn't be enabled until browsers catch up. But mobile browsers are always going to be an issue for new formats. The AppDB *could* detect this and convert to a suitable format (and this could be done generally), but do we want that to happen?
