I don't think we have any good way to fix that: when previously we were handling X error that was different; if the thing just gives SEGFAULT inside the driver catching that and continuing as nothing happened is not great, it leaves things in undefined state in the driver and may exhibit as instability or hangs later. I think this should be reported to NVidia if problems in the setup cannot be found (and standalone sample may be used for that reporting).
