http://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=60201 --- Comment #2 from Alisa Sireneva <me@purplesyringa.moe> --- It's mostly used by userland socketpair() implementations, since Windows offers no native socketpair() or abstract unix-domain sockets, and thus sockets have to be tied to filesystem paths that can be raced. Ocaml uses it (https://github.com/ocaml/ocaml/blob/7ed5cf7f8e9d236e1650ac8418f88174523b15df...), qemu uses it too (https://github.com/qemu/qemu/blob/ae4f3443209ab154b48b706a146e5f557ab147cb/u...) though I guess it's not something you want to run under Wine. I also want to use it in an IPC library. The popularity here is a little hard to measure, since most of the uses are transitive; all I know is that someone bothered to implement it and googling "socketpair on Windows" mostly yields snippets that are either insecure or use SIO_AF_UNIX_GETPEERPID. There are also some other uses, e.g. dbus seemingly uses it for security (https://dbus.freedesktop.org/doc/api/html/dbus-sysdeps-win_8c_source.html), and glib exposes the API (https://github.com/winlibs/glib/blob/ca9d6adf53e11099045a6d51116dd0b678faa1f...) and it may be transitively used by PHP, but I'm not sure. -- Do not reply to this email, post in Bugzilla using the above URL to reply.
