It plumbs the DwmExtendFrameIntoClientArea margins from dwmapi through win32u to the drivers, upgrades an existing X11 window to a 32-bit ARGB visual when the request arrives, and invalidates Vulkan swapchains with VK_ERROR_OUT_OF_DATE_KHR so a client that set up before the margins gets a new one. That last part is the compositeAlpha problem from comment #14. It is large (28 files, X11 and Wayland together), currently conflicts with master, and the author describes it as a proof of concept for someone to take over.
