I'm curious as to what makes you say that the "MIME handler system" promises a form of security boundary. Where did you get that notion from?
The xdg-mime manpage quoted in the original report, which states clearly "Keeping opening and executing separate actions helps with people protecting themselves from malware, the default handler is an opener, not a runner." -- Do not reply to this email, post in Bugzilla using the above URL to reply.
