[Bug 60414] New: Windows 7 Games for Windows 11 crash on start (winegstreamer's fault?) (Gentoo Linux)
http://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=60414 Bug ID: 60414 Summary: Windows 7 Games for Windows 11 crash on start (winegstreamer's fault?) (Gentoo Linux) Product: Wine Version: 11.18 Hardware: x86-64 OS: Linux Status: UNCONFIRMED Severity: normal Priority: P2 Component: winegstreamer Assignee: wine-bugs@list.winehq.org Reporter: enkiferreiracosta867@gmail.com Target Milestone: --- Distribution: --- Created attachment 82219 --> http://bugs.winehq.org/attachment.cgi?id=82219 Solitaire's backtrace I downloaded the game collection from here, https://archive.org/details/windows7games-for-windows-11-10-8, although I didn't install all of them. I only installed Solitaire, Spider Solitaire, FreeCell, Mahjong and Chess. However, all of the ones I installed, except for Chess, share a similarity when they try to start: they crash, a "Program Error" window pops up, and expanding that window shows an error with a winegstreamer call, winegstreamer.dll.winegstreamer_create_wm_sync_reader. I thought I was just missing some required GStreamer libraries, but even after doing some research and installing the 'good', 'bad', 'ugly' and 'base' plugins, I remained getting this same exact crash backtrace, shown in the attached file for what I get when trying to run Solitaire. I also tried recompiling Wine itself after installing all those plugins to make sure it just wasn't recognizing the new libraries at first, but no difference whatsoever. Made sure to enable the `gstreamer` USE flag as well, nothing. I now have the following installed in my system: - gstreamer itself; - gst-plugins-{bad,base,good,ugly}; - gst-plugins-{faad,flac,libav,mpeg2dec,mpg123,x264}; none of which seem to make a difference with that error··· unless I'm missing something. I'm running Wine under XWayland on Gentoo, and it's compiled with the `X`, `alsa`, `custom-cflags`, `fontconfig`, `gecko`, `gstreamer`, `kerberos`, `mingw`, `odbc`, `opengl`, `ssl`, `strip`, `truetype`, `vaapi`, `vulkan`, `wayland` and `wow64` USE flags. Also running the live ebuild of it, so my exact version is wine-11.18-318-g6d1b0940577. -- Do not reply to this email, post in Bugzilla using the above URL to reply. http://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=60414 --- Comment #1 from Rafał Mużyło <galtgendo@o2.pl> --- With Gentoo bugs, first question tends to be for emerge log, here it's full terminal output, not just the backtrace. Anyway, as long as you actually had 'gstreamer' set, plugins shouldn't be a problem...or at least not a crasher. This error, as long as it's not some bizarre build problem, is more likely to be some 32 bit memory problem...or at least it would be if not for the backtrace claiming it's 64 bit code... So full terminal output first, then perhaps one more time - this time with 'loaddll' channel. -- Do not reply to this email, post in Bugzilla using the above URL to reply. With Gentoo bugs, first question tends to be for emerge log, here it's full terminal output, not just the backtrace. oh wow, i've reported a few bugs here also from running on Gentoo yet i've never been asked that i think
is more likely to be some 32 bit memory problem...or at least it would be if not for the backtrace claiming it's 64 bit code... i mean these games _are_ 64-bit so i'd think that's somewhat expected··· i wonder if it'd behave differently if i compiled the 32-bit version of my packages instead of using WoW64 here
full terminal output first, then perhaps one more time - this time with 'loaddll' channel. well that's great, all i did in the meantime was reboot my computer and now suddenly i can launch the game when trying to do that? however i am getting some weird stutters and the audio is quite buggy, the sound effects either don't play or they play very distorted i also don't get a little menu bar that's supposed to appear right at the top, even if i set Wine to have its own window decorations and finally, if i close the game, the confirmation dialog that appears when closing it doesn't display any text at all and i have to remember which button does what
maybe at this point i should open a separate bug, the same games i mentioned earlier all have these same exact problems, except for Chess which just shows an error dialog box with a blank text -- Do not reply to this email, post in Bugzilla using the above URL to reply. http://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=60414 --- Comment #3 from Rafał Mużyło <galtgendo@o2.pl> --- ...while 11.18 has some xaudio issues (well, faudio, to be precise - fixes are in faudio tree, waiting for next wine pull), a question: did you run revdep-rebuild lately ? cause that sounds as if you either got something broken during emerges or misconfigured something outside wine... (I mean, while it seems that during this year's freeze there'll be more regressions than usual, your problem seems local...well, unless it's something wayland specific, I'm still using x11 driver) -- Do not reply to this email, post in Bugzilla using the above URL to reply. did you run revdep-rebuild lately ? i didn't
that sounds as if you either got something broken during emerges or misconfigured something outside wine... i'm guessing the reboot refreshed the environment for Wine to work on, even though i ran `wineboot` on every attempt, i guess something deeper was going on here
your problem seems local...well, unless it's something wayland specific, I'm still using x11 driver maybe, like i said i'm on Wayland but am using the X11 driver because the Wayland one still doesn't work very well

http://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=60414 --- Comment #7 from ruby R53 <enkiferreiracosta867@gmail.com> --- like i said, i had to install a bunch of GStreamer packages, not only that i also had to reboot for the changes to apply the game no longer crashes but it's in a very buggy state now, and i'll be opening a different issue for that -- Do not reply to this email, post in Bugzilla using the above URL to reply.
