[Bug 60085] New: CHM help file displayed with additional empty nuisance "Select Topic" window
http://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=60085 Bug ID: 60085 Summary: CHM help file displayed with additional empty nuisance "Select Topic" window Product: Wine Version: 11.14 Hardware: x86-64 OS: Linux Status: UNCONFIRMED Severity: normal Priority: P2 Component: -unknown Assignee: wine-bugs@list.winehq.org Reporter: depaoli.renzo@gmail.com Target Milestone: --- Distribution: --- Created attachment 81607 --> http://bugs.winehq.org/attachment.cgi?id=81607 "Select Topic" persistent window seen with TextPad and Orca KDE Debian 12 Bookworm, AMD GPU WX5100, seen on Real HW as well as Virtual Box VM
uname --all Linux vbox 6.1.0-51-amd64 #1 SMP PREEMPT_DYNAMIC Debian 6.1.177-1 (2026-07-16) x86_64 GNU/Linux
When opening help (is CHM file) on TextPad 8, TextPad 9 & Orca MSI Editor, a black empty window titled "Select Topic" appears in the top left corner of the screen. This in itself is not new; in the past, this window disappeared immediately, while it is now persistent and needs the user to minimise and close it. The patch that causes the difference is: 1039c8f7f3150be8820a5b9d8d54448832ad0699 is the first bad commit commit 1039c8f7f3150be8820a5b9d8d54448832ad0699 Author: Rémi Bernon <rbernon@codeweavers.com> Date: Thu Dec 18 19:09:36 2025 +0100 winex11: Unmap windows only when SWP_HIDEWINDOW is set. Wine-Bug: https://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=59098 Wine-Bug: https://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=59069 dlls/winex11.drv/window.c | 8 ++++++++ 1 file changed, 8 insertions(+) That patch causes regression in the CHM help behaviour, but is not really the issue, as the question is more why this extra empty window "Select Topic" is pops up in the first place? TextPad needs no prerequisites and can be downloaded here: - https://www.textpad.com/download Orca is part of the MS SDK and needs Visual C++ 6, links for a direct download are: - https://download.microsoft.com/download/e119c04b-71aa-4067-ac3c-360c2e13d209... - https://download.microsoft.com/download/e119c04b-71aa-4067-ac3c-360c2e13d209... - https://download.microsoft.com/download/e119c04b-71aa-4067-ac3c-360c2e13d209... - https://download.microsoft.com/download/e119c04b-71aa-4067-ac3c-360c2e13d209... N.B. "Select Topic" window issue does not seem Gecko related, the window appears even before Gecko is installed. -- Do not reply to this email, post in Bugzilla using the above URL to reply. Looks a lot like Bug 59932, though that has been fixed. Good afternoon Ken.
Thanks, I missed that when browsing the bug directory. And yes, this is exactly the same issue. I re-ran my test once again with a clean build from source and clean prefix, and I don't see the problem in 11.14 any more, so it is fixed. No idea what went wrong during my initial test, my apologies. *** This bug has been marked as a duplicate of bug 59932 *** -- Do not reply to this email, post in Bugzilla using the above URL to reply.
