[Bug 59317] New: Need for Speed Most Wanted (2005): Up is triggered continuously without pressing a button on gamepad
http://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=59317 Bug ID: 59317 Summary: Need for Speed Most Wanted (2005): Up is triggered continuously without pressing a button on gamepad Product: Wine Version: 11.1 Hardware: x86-64 OS: Linux Status: UNCONFIRMED Severity: minor Priority: P2 Component: -unknown Assignee: wine-bugs@list.winehq.org Reporter: eric@wolf42.net Distribution: ArchLinux Created attachment 80248 --> http://bugs.winehq.org/attachment.cgi?id=80248 Video recording showing the bug Linux version: 6.18.6-arch1-1 Wine version: 11.1-2 (as installed with 'pacman -S wine') Peripherals: USB Mouse, USB Keyboard, Generic USB XBox Gamepad, USB Dongle for Wireless Headset Issue: When starting the game with the gamepad plugged in and entering any menu that can be scrolled up and down (Quick Race, Options, Blacklist, etc.), the game keeps scrolling up the selected menu on its own without any input from keyboard or gamepad. The issue only occurred after upgrading from Wine version 11.0.1 to 11.1-2. The issue is not resolved by: - Deleting the Wine prefix (rm -rf ~/.wine) and reinstalling the game - Deleting the safefile of the game (rm -rf ~/'NFS Most Wanted') - Disconnecting all USB peripherals, except the gamepad, before starting the game - Using another USB port for the gamepad, a different USB cable or a different gamepad of the same type Furthermore the gamepad causes no problems in other games that are installed outside of Wine. The issue is resolved by: - Disconnecting the gamepad, then the game can be played normally with the keyboard - Downgrading back to Wine version 11.0-1 -- Do not reply to this email, post in Bugzilla using the above URL to reply. The same issue occurs in Final Fantasy IX with a controller attached. Indeed, this is a regression from Wine-11.1 and reverting commit 8df796f0f8bd19e1f623b1ec5c67f51914af4eed fixes the issue. wine-11.1-102-g93f3d8ae9fa -- Do not reply to this email, post in Bugzilla using the above URL to reply. I bisected it and also found 8df796f0f8bd19e1f623b1ec5c67f51914af4eed to be the commit that broke it. -- Do not reply to this email, post in Bugzilla using the above URL to reply. http://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=59317 --- Comment #5 from SeongChan Lee <foriequal@gmail.com> --- The change was introduced in this MR by me: https://gitlab.winehq.org/wine/wine/-/merge_requests/9789 It was for Assetto Corsa Rally v0.1. The game had a bug with the 32-bit width report size axis. On Windows, it had no problem when the driver provided 16-bit axes. But it was problematic with Wine since Wine always provides 32-bit axis. The intent was to provide the game the same report size as Windows' if possible since the SDL backend already provides 16-bit normalized values. The game fixed the bug since v0.2 (2025-12-18), so I, personally, don't need it right now. But there are some other titles mentioned (Farming Simulator 22, 25, MechWarrior 5: Mercenaries), but the status is not sure. -- Do not reply to this email, post in Bugzilla using the above URL to reply. http://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=59317 Leon <leons87@hotmail.com> changed: What |Removed |Added ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- CC| |leons87@hotmail.com --- Comment #6 from Leon <leons87@hotmail.com> --- FWIW, I believe that the GoG version of the game Crystal Project may be effected by this as well - https://www.gog.com/en/game/crystal_project I believe the steam version can optionally use steam input, which may sidestep this problem, but I don't have access to a copy to test this. It becomes immediately apparent in the opening menu of the game. No amount of unplugging/plugging in controller seems to resolve this. Unplugging and re-plugging in the controller results in the constant up inputs stopping until a button is pressed then it resumes. I've installed jstest-gtk and used it to re-calibrating the controller after noticing this problem (thinking that it may be due to the left analog stick) but that's had no impact. I've also tried manually editing the game's .ini config files to move all the directions to a face button to see if this goes away and no luck there. This is a game I've played on earlier versions of wine 11 staging without this problem (IIRC last time I played this it was on wine staging 11.1). OS: Linux Mint 22.3 - Cinnamon 64-bit Wine: wine-11.6 (Staging) Controller: Xbox Series S|X Axes: 8, Buttons: 11 (according to jstest-gtk) I can provide console logs if required, but I don't think they will be terribly helpful. Re-connecting the controller results in some fixme:xinput:pdo_pnp code 0xc, not implemented lines and some debug info about the controller. Triggering the problem results in no additional lines output to console. -- Do not reply to this email, post in Bugzilla using the above URL to reply.
