Simple patch q

Hi, When I can I use cvs diff, but once I get a few patches out I end up diffing to the previous patch using diff -u3 backup_of_last_patch dlls/d3d8. I always get lots of "Only in dlls/d3d8: basetexture.o, Only in dlls/d3d8: cubetexture.o etc" type lines - How can I get rid of these (I normally edit them out by hand but I forgot this time) - I looked in the man pages and nothing stood out. UI bugs hampering porting effort for shaped window

Hello All, Apologies if I'm not posting to the correct location. I am trying to port our X-Lite (a leading free SIP softphone) application to run under WINE as a first trial before we obtain the expertise to do a native application. However, I am running into some issues because our application uses a non-standard shaped window. One of our windows developers has created a test application that demonstrates the non-compatible issues found in hopes that someone may be able to help resolve the issues. As of yet, we do not have the in-house expertise to fix the issues directly within WINE. In addition to the UI issues listed below, a fix for bug 1541 is critical. If anyone can help resolve these issues, I'd greatly appreciate the help in getting another application that can run under WINE, and we can have one of our windows developers assist in validation of any fixes. This application demonstrates the issues we are having which will allow X-Lite to run under WINE. Source and binaries are included. Find the demo application at: http://www.xten.com/files/winetest.zip The show stopper bugs are B1, B2, B3, B4 and B5. Issue B5, and B7 can be worked around, so they aren't as critical. B1, B2, B3, and B4 can be fixed by putting a title bar on the application. (See MAKE_IT_LOOK_LIKE_A_NORMAL_APP_AT_STARTUP in winetest.cpp.) - B1. Focus does not appear to be on the application at start-up. We do not receive keyboard messages, though we do receive many other messages, such as mouse-clicks. Clicking on the square labelled "focus:" fixes the problem, by bringing up a message box -- when the message box is dismissed, the application has focus. This appears to be the same problem as that discussed here: http://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=292 - B2. No task bar item. - B3. "System" commands do not appear to be working. Examples: - we do not receive WM_CLOSE when the user presses Alt+F4 - Alt+Space does not bring up the System menu - B4. We are always on top, until a screen-saver kicks in. (Also can be fixed by simply removing WS_POPUP.) This appears to be the same problem as that discussed here: http://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1288 - B5. The application window is supposed to have a non-rectangular shape. The shape is made by setting a "region" from a mask bitmap, and calling SetWindowRgn. The problem under Wine happens when converting the 2-bit color mask to a 24-bit color mask. The black 2-bit pixels are properly converted to black 24-bit pixels, but the white 2-bit pixels are converted to a near-black, rather than white. The sample app demonstrates 2 ways of working around the problem: method 1: fixes the problem by using a 16-color (4 bit per color) mask instead of a 2-color mask. This gets around the bug in a reasonable way. method 2: fixes the problem by using near-black (instead of white) for the "transparent" color. This exploits the bug and causes a bad (but correct) appearance on Windows. - B6. Copy to the clipboard doesn't work (though pasting from the clipboard does work). - B7. Attempting to bring up the right-click context menu causes the app to hang.

I found several bugs in http://www.winehq.com/site/documentation and the online winelib user's guide: - practically empty winedocs-html.tgz - empty winedocs-ps.tgz - unreadable pdfs in winedocs-pdf.tgz Some html pages of chapters 3+ of the online winelib user's guide do not adapt in size (to the browser window). Hitch is, Linux doesn't provide it. I wanted to set a breakpoint a few instructions before the "call" instruction that frame 1 points to, but whenever I try that the program runs, then the standard "Unhandled exception, starting winedbg" message is printed even though it's already running inside winedbg. Do I need to do something special here? Secondly, I noticed recently that with non-AA fonts winecfg renders wrongly, in particular the labels wrap or are clipped. I don't understand how win32 apps deal with different font sizes without containment based layout - is this a bug in my app (fwiw i've seen variants of this problem in a lot of other apps), a bug in wine, or a design flaw in win32? I've never seen that problem in real windows, so I'd guess bug in wine. Thirdly, Greg recently mentioned "stubless proxies". Does anybody know where I can read about these? thanks -mike

VirtualAllocEx

Has there been any work on VirtualAllocEx for allocating memory to other processes? I would like to get this going to allow me to run mta:vc and blow away other people in gta vice city (I believe that is a noble cause). To get me started I have a question. Is there a mechanism for one wine process (thread?) to send a message to another process (thread?) and receive a response, ie a pointer? Or, can I use the wineserver as a mediator that passess messages between two wine processes? For example: app1 sends a message "allocate 1MB of virtual memory in app2" to the wineserver. The wineserver then tells app2 to "allocate 1MB of virtual memory". App2 replys to the wineserver the virtual location of the allocated memory. Wineserver replys to app1 giving the location. App1 can then use the result in WriteProcessMemory.

crossover office mentioned in current "HP World"

HP World is HP's house rag, sent out free to everyone who buys anything from HP or attends their "HP World" show. Several times now they have used the Crossover Office that comes with SuSE Linux during a review of some product. On page 20 of the Nov 2003 issue, for instance, titled "POPping Up Terrabytes", they reviewed FIA's POPnetserver NAS 4600 model 720, and said in part "Configuration ... is about as simple as humanly possible. There is, however, one minor annoyance for a system designed to be experienced as an applince: All of the management software is designed to run on Windows, and only Windows. ... we were able to run -- albeit not completely-- POPassist on SuSE Linux Desktop with the help of CrossOver Office. The only glitch comes in actually fiding the POPnetserver.
