seti@home success story

I gave a Wine demo at last Sunday's LULA installfest, and one of the attendees reports "Well, I was wanting to run seti(a)home, but they only have a command line version available for linux, so I used some of Dan's tricks from the Wine talk, and now I have the cool windows gui running under redhat 8, thanks Dan for the helpful info on wine." So while it may sound from my posts that Wine does nothing but crash in 16 bit code or forget to draw stuff, that's just 'cause I'm playing QA monkey. I don't know *why* this happens to me now, err:win32:_EnterSysLevel (0x4093dfa0, level 2): Holding 0x409dfc64, level 3. Expect deadlock! in both FF8.exe and FF8Config.exe (Final Fantasy VIII) in the new CVS build. I'm kind of *active* on this list eh? :-D -- "De-fault! Hello, I've just added a comment to the ACT!2000 appdb entry and even though i was logged in into the appdb (seen the cookie in mozilla) the entry was created with "anonymous coward" as sender. halflife majorly crashes on me: err:local:LOCAL_GetBlock not enough space in GDI heap 01ff for 112 bytes for thousands of lines, until it eventually pukes and wants to debug. then it tells me: Couldn't start process '148738992 0x84 ' (twice) Why? I don't know. I remember installing it under wine, but it always puked on me like that afterwards. I have 128MB of RAM so that shouldn't be a problem. -- "De-fault! Explorer

I've been reading all of the traffic regarding getting explorer to work under WINE or writing a replacement for WINE and thought this would be a good time to chime in. ReactOS is about to release version 0.1.0 this weekend and is starting to include support for basic Windowing and CDrom installing. There has been much discussion on when/if we will reimplement explorer.exe also so maybe we can work together on this as ReactOS is using WINE for large parts of the shell support. "Error: File table full" in VB app

The next buglet in the property management VB app from http://www.yardi.com is right after I pick the datafile to open, it pops up with a dialog box titled "Database Exception", contents "Error: File table full. Op: Open. File: BANK.DAT [86:0:21]" Now, what file table might that be? I tried editing c:\config.sys, and adding FILES=128, but that didn't help :-) I'm attaching the output of ~/wine/wine --debugmsg +file,+dialog,+int21 --dll compobj,storage,ole2,ole32=n Y.EXE > y.log 2>&1 tar -cjvf y.tar.bz2 y.log Suggestions welcome. While I agree with the patch, the easiest way would still be to completely remove support for the evil 24 / 24 screen configuration everywhere in Wine and only support 24 / 32. For example, in GetSysMetrics we report bpp as 24 (even in 24 / 32 mode) whereas Windows would return 32 and that breaks some apps (do not remember which though). And as I do not know of any modern graphic card supporting this (maybe Matrox because I did not test it), it should not hurt anyone.
