ATI has released software called HLSL2GLSL which converts D3D9 High Level Shader Language (HLSL) into the OpenGL equivalent GLSL. It's open source, and appears to be under a BSD license, so may be possible to integrate into WINE (I'm not sure if it's old or new BSD license). RFC: d3d8 refcount implementation

After spamming wine-patches with d3d tests, I tried to implement the probed behaviour. Attached are two patches, which makes all d3d8 refcount test pass. They are small and ugly. The problems are: The implicit surfaces now gets released if the refcount is -1. Somehow we have to force releasing d3d8 sufaces from wined3d. No idea how. I added a flag to mark the implicit surfaces. It's redundant, because wined3d knows the implicit surfaces. The other idea is calling GetRenderTarget and friends in Surface_(AddRef/Release). Besides the problem of an endless recursion, it would be quite an overhead. Another problem is, that IWineD3DDeviceImpl_Uninit3D calls via GetParent AddRef/Release on the d3d8 surface. This causes the device to be released again(=>endless recursion). I "solved" it with ignoring an addref from 0 in the d3d8 Device, which causes the release to be -1 => no wined3d device releasing. Works but ugly. Earlier today I fired up my copy of Firefox 1.5.0.7 for Windows with Wine 0.9.25, browsed to the Firefox page, downloaded Firefox 2.0, clicked `Open' from the download window, ran the installer flawlessly, and started up the new version of Firefox seamlessly. From there I downloaded ColorPic (a screen color picker for Windows that I use for Web work); the .zip file opened up automatically in WinRAR, from which I was able to launch the installer executable and install it fine. It started up after install perfectly too, and now I can pick colors from all over my Linux (Gnome) desktop with a Windows color picker tool. Not a single error, glitch, or fault to be seen. It all went fast, and smooth. It seems to me that Wine is now at the point that the average user could probably browse the web quite happily, downloading little Windows apps and trying them out, without ever even realising they were running the Windows versions of everything. Over 500 maintainers in the applcation database

_I_ think this is news worthy. We now have over 500 individuals who have signed up to be maintainer of an applications. these maintainers are spread out over 794 entries in the AppDB. Since there are some applications with multiple maintainers and some maintainers maintain multiple apps and the fact that super maintainers are responsible for multiple versions I cannot give a accurate count on maintained applications ;^) There has not been a lot of hacking on the AppDB for a while. At least part of the reason for this is that there is a lot of work to be done just administrating it. even with all the maintainers and administrators it seems we are always a couple of days behind checking new application submissions and test results. Current active Administrators are : Chris Morgan (In charge of cvs commits) Tony Lambregts (me) Louis Lenders Alexander Nicolaysen Sørnes Killertux Molle Bestefich Jan Zerebecki Nick Law We can always use more help and even though I am kind of proud of the current status of the AppDB I have to be one of the first to admit it needs some more polish. OLE Automatization Linux's OpenOffice from wine app

I have windows application wich use OLE Automatization to fill-in OpenOffice document It's create OleObject like OpenOffice := CreateOleObject('com.sun.star.ServiceManager'); And then use it. Everything is OK when I run it on windows. How can I rewrite it, or use any tools, to work when OpenOffice is installed on Linux, and my application runs in wine? -- Kochmin Alexandr
