Windows version autodetection

Hi There are some older applications out there, which don't install or run correctly unless Wine is emulating the correct Windows version (eg. Windows 9x). At least Windows XP has the ability to use certain heuristics to make an educated guess as to which version of Windows the application expects, and then lie in GetVersion() and behave like that version in relevant APIs. Should we do something like that for Wine? It would allow many applications to work out of the box. Damjan Jovanovic

Hi, instead of having the "change language" link at the bottom of the main page, why not display the country flags directly and shade the ones that are inactive (or find some other way of indicating the active one)? Then non-english users had a better clue that language options are available at all and wouldn't have to figure out what "change language" means ;-) Cheers, -Maik

Get font file (full) path from HFONT

In order to use Freetype library I need to get font file full path from an HFONT handle. Is there a simple way to do it or should I scan the registry/font dirs to pair font faces/font paths ? Ciao Max

Adding Mac joystick support -- build problem

Hi wine-devels, I've got a simple goal. I want to play IL-2 Sturmovik on my Mac without rebooting. This flight sim is gold-rated in the app-db, so this should be a walk in the park, but of course the game does require a joystick. After a bit of poking I realized that there's no support for joysticks under Mac OS. I'm willing to write the code for joystick support, and I've even gotten as far as writing a test app under OS X that enumerates all joysticks and polls their state. I've looked at the linux joystick code in wine and think I can write the equivalent code for OS X. What I *can't* seem to do is build a wine that can run IL-2. I've had no problem installing and playing the demo using the 1.1.9 build at http://www.kronenberg.org/darwine/ and using crossover games, but when I build wine myself the IL-2 demo installer fails to run. I've tried building the 1.1.9 and 1.1.10 tarballs and using macports to install 1.1.10, all with the same result: --- begin log output --- Could not load Mozilla. Help me to find function name from kernel32.dll

Hi there. I'm debugging some windows app in OllyDbg under Wine ;-) (funny?) Now, I found this call in assembler: call ebx EBX is 7EE6BC23. So, instruction invokes some function in address 7EE6BC23. This address, as Olly shows belongs to kernel32.dll. I can follow this address, and there are some code ;-) Everything right ;-) But now, I want to get name of this function (kernel32.7EE6BC23) and analyze it's C source code (as you know Wine is open source :P) ;) How to? Or maybe it's impossible? Maybe some symbols must be loaded (and how?). Tnx

Compiling dbghelp with MinGW

When I compile Wine with MinGW, the first error I get is in dlls/dbghelp/source.c. Yet it seems to me that there is no fundamental reason that would prevent dbghelp from working on Windows (i.e. it's not in the 'ntdll' category). So the error is that although MinGW does not have regex.h and HAVE_REGEX_H is not set, we still use regex_t in many places and call the corresponding functions: regcomp(), regexec() and regfree(). So how should we handle this? 1) #ifdef-out regexp support if regex.h is missing? Maybe with an autoconf check for regcomp()? 2) Add some reg*() stubs that do nothing if regex.h & co are missing? 3) Use some Windows API that provides regular expression support? Is there one? Is it implemented already? 4) Reimplement regular expression support straight in dbghelp?
